Abstract:
Our research proposes a three‐stage model of attentional allocation between various infant and adult expressions. First, the uncertainty of neutral infant faces over adult faces induces the strongest attentional bias by adults. Second, the prioritized attention focusing on infant faces over adult faces shifts from neutral and happy expressions toward sad ones. Third, infant faces have a dominant advantage in sustained attention for incentive salience over adult faces across various expressions.
