Abstract:
In sport, and other domains, experts are often explicitly given a priori context‐specific information (i.e., contextual priors) on the assumption this will enhance performance. Due to increased processing demands, increased task load seems to hamper the integration of priors and visual information and adversely affect anticipation performance. Those interested in expert performance should be cautious when providing explicit contextual priors as this may not always be beneficial to performance depending on the task demands.
