Abstract:
Experimental forward scattering pressures for a line array of ten cylinders of various sizes and materials were obtained to compare with calculated values. An investigation was made for kd from 1 to 10 (k is the wavenumber and d is the center-to-center spacing) and kɑ & lt; 1 (ɑ is the cylinder radius). The calculations were made by Twersky's theory of multiple scattering. When kd is larger than 3, the pressure level of the second-order scattering wave is 10–20 dB lower than that of the first-order scattering wave. In this range, the experimental results agree well with the calculated results. Large discrepancies are found, however, for values of kd smaller than 2. Also discussed are the effects of boundary conditions.
