Notes: Abstract Phenyl radicals have been generated by photodecomposition of nitrosobenzene isolated in solid argon at 12 K. In this medium the origin of the first UV absorption band of nitrosobenzene corresponding to theS 0 →S 2 transition is found at 30260 cm−1. Excitation with an excess energy of ≈ 2200 cm−1 results in very efficient photodissociation. The fragments NO and phenyl are stable for many hours. Annealing of the sample above 35 K led to partial recombination and recovery of the absorption spectrum of nitrosobenzene. The UV spectrum of the phenyl radical was obtained in the wavenumber range 25000–45000 cm−1, apparently without contamination by other species. It shows sharp lines at 25220, 33880, and 34820 cm−1 and two broader maxima at 38360 and 41060 cm−1. Of these only the line at 34820 cm−1 had been assigned to the phenyl radical in earlier work. These data are compared to recent molecular orbital calculations.

Notes: Abstract.  Phenyl radicals have been generated by photodecomposition of nitrosobenzene isolated in solid argon at 12 K. In this medium the origin of the first UV absorption band of nitrosobenzene corresponding to the S 0→S 2 transition is found at 30260 cm-1. Excitation with an excess energy of ≈2200 cm-1 results in very efficient photodissociation. The fragments NO and phenyl are stable for many hours.

Notes: Abstract Pyloric atresia is a very rare malformation. Up to 1987, 140 cases of complete pyloric obstruction had been described in the available medical literature [9]. Four patients with congenital pyloric atresia are presented. On the basis of our own cases and those described in the literature, clinical features, diagnostic procedures, and therapy are summarized and discussed. The typical radiological and clinical signs should in most cases lead to the correct diagnosis.

Notes: Abstract Enzyme-histotopochemical studies of parasympathetic innervation in the internal anal sphincter muscle of 73 children with anal sphincter achalasia indicated that in Hirschsprung's disease and type B neuronal intestinal dysplasia (NID) the internal sphincter displays a pattern of changes analogous to that seen in the wall of the rectum. In Hirschsprung's disease the internal sphincter is also aganglionic, and its parasympathetic fibres exhibit increased acetylcholinesterase (ACE) activity in NID there is moderately increased ACE activity, with ganglionic neurons embedded singly or in groups in the thick afferent parasympathetic fibers. The innervation defect may be confined to the sphincter, or aganglionosis of the sphincter may be associated with proximal NID.

Notes: Abstract The thermal boundary resistance at boundaries between monocrystalline sapphire and monocrystalline aluminum and between monocrystalline sapphire and polycrystalline aluminum has been measured in the temperature range from 0.1 to 6 K with aluminum in the superconducting and normal states. The ratio of the thermal boundary resistance of the aluminum monocrystals in the superconducting state to that in the normal state increases as the temperature is lowered, reaches a maximum at about 0.13 K, and decreases at still lower temperatures. At the maximum, the thermal boundary resistance in the superconducting state is two orders of magnitude larger than the resistance in the normal state.
