Description: Carbon black (CB)-filled polypropylene (PP) with surface resistivity between 10 6 and 10 9 sq –1 is the ideal antistatic plastic material in the electronics and electric industry. However, a large amount of CB may have an adverse effect on the mechanical properties and processing performance of the material, thus an improved ternary system is developed. Blends of CB-filled PP and polyamide 6 (PA6) have been prepared by melt blending in order to obtain electrically conductive polymer composites with a low electrical percolation threshold based on the concept of double percolation. The morphological developments of these composites were studied by scanning electron microscopy. The results showed that CB particles were selectively dispersed in PA6 phases due to the good interaction and interfacial adhesion between CB and PA6. At the same CB loadings, the surface resistivity of PP/PA6/CB composite was smaller than that of PP/CB composite system, which indicated the better conductivity in the former composite. The increasing amount of PA6 in the composites changed the morphology from a typical sea–island morphology to a co-continuous morphology. What is more, with 8 wt% of CB and PP/PA6 phase ratio of 70/30 in which the PP and PA6 phases formed a co-continuous structure, the electrical conductivity of the composite peaked at 2.01 x 10 5 sq –1 .

Description: Three-dimensional (3D) graphene composites have drawn increasing attention in energy storage/conversion applications due to their unique structures and properties. Herein, we synthesized 3D honeycomb-like Ni 3 S 2 @graphene oxide composite (3D honeycomb-like Ni 3 S 2 @GO) by a one-pot hydrothermal method. We found that positive charges of Ni 2+ and negative charges of NO 3 – in Ni(NO 3 ) 2 induced a transformation of graphene oxide with smooth surface into graphene oxide with wrinkled surface (w-GO). The w-GO in the mixing solution of Ni(NO 3 ) 2 /thioacetamide/H 2 O evolved into 3D honeycomb-like Ni 3 S 2 @GO in solvothermal process. The GO effectively inhibited the aggregation of Ni 3 S 2 nanoparticles. Photoelectrochemical cells based on 3D Ni 3 S 2 @GO synthesized at 60 mM l –1 Ni(NO 3 ) 2 exhibited the best energy conversion efficiency. 3D Ni 3 S 2 @GO had smaller charge transfer resistance and larger exchange current density than pure Ni 3 S 2 for iodine reduction reaction. The cyclic stability of 3D honeycomb-like Ni 3 S 2 @GO was good in the iodine electrolyte. Results are of great interest for fundamental research and practical applications of 3D GO and its composites in solar water-splitting, artificial photoelectrochemical cells, electrocatalysts and Li-S or Na-S batteries.

Description: Aiming at the problem of the fatigue life prediction of rubber under the influence of temperature, the effects of thermal ageing and fatigue damage on the fatigue life of rubber under the influence of temperature are analysed and a fatigue life prediction model is established by selecting strain energy as a fatigue damage parameter based on the uniaxial tensile data of dumbbell rubber specimens at different temperatures. Firstly, the strain energy of rubber specimens at different temperatures is obtained by the Yeoh model, and the relationship between it and rubber fatigue life at different temperatures is fitted by the least-square method. Secondly, the function formula of temperature and model parameters is obtained by the least-square polynomial fitting. Finally, another group of rubber specimens is tested at different temperatures and the fatigue characteristics are predicted by using the proposed prediction model under the influence of temperature, and the results are compared with the measured results. The results show that the predicted value of the model is consistent with the measured value and the average relative error is less than 22.26%, which indicates that the model can predict the fatigue life of this kind of rubber specimen at different temperatures. What's more, the model proposed in this study has a high practical value in engineering practice of rubber fatigue life prediction at different temperatures.

Description: Size control has been successfully achieved in inorganic materials, but it remains a challenge in polymer nanomaterials due to their polydispersity. Here, we report a facile approach to tailor the diameters of polyurethane (PU) nanoparticles (490 nm, 820 nm and 2.1 µm) via perylene bisimide (PBI) assisted self-assembly. The formed morphologies such as spindle, spherical and core–shell structures depend on the ratio of PBI and polymer concentrations. It is shown that the formation of PU nanoparticles is directed by – stacking of PBI and the morphology transition is not only affected by the amount of PBI incorporated, but also influenced by solvent, which controls the initial evaporation balance. Furthermore, the prepared PUs exhibit retained optical stability and enhanced thermal stability. The PUs, designed to have conjugated PBI segments in backbones, were synthesized via ring-opening and condensation reactions. Compared with the neat PU, gel permeation chromatography shows narrower molecular weight distribution. Fluorescence spectra and ultraviolet–visible spectra indicate retained maximum emission wavelength of PBI at 574 nm and 5.2% quantum yields. Thermo-gravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry reveal 79°C higher decomposition temperature and 22°C higher glass transition temperature. This study provides a new way to fabricate well-defined nanostructures of functionalized PUs.
