Notes: Abstract The growth of perch (Perca fluviatilis L.) at ten stations in the archipelago of Luleå, Gulf of Bothnia, is described. Considerable growth differences were found between stations. Growth rate was clearly negatively correlated to the population density of perch (measured as gill net catches). Probable causes of the growth differences (food competition and lack of suitable food objects) and possible consequences (local differences in expected life-time fecundity) are discussed.
