Zittel bemängelt beispielsweise die unklaren und je nach Interessenlage schwankenden Angaben über die förderbaren Mengen, die enormen Investitionen, die höher sein können als bei alternativen Energien, und nicht zuletzt die Umweltfolgen. Denn Fracking kann eine Gefahr für das Grundwasser bedeuten, Erdbeben nach sich ziehen und Landschaften zerstören. Der durch einen umfangreichen Anhang ergänzte Band ist inhaltlich anspruchsvoll, aber relativ gut verständlich geschrieben
