Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Bericht über 345 Fiberbronchoskopien.
Notes: Summary The results of 345 fiberoptic bronchoscopies are reported. In 97 operatively proven lung cancers flexible bronchoscopy yielded positive results (histologically ± cytologically) in 86.8% ofcases. The advantages of flexible instruments are: - examinations under local anesthesia are possible on an outpatient basis independent of the age of the patients. - Even distal parts of the bronchial system (including upper lobe segments) can be visualized. A disadvantage is only the small size of biopsy specimens. It is concluded that for diagnostic purposes (especially the search for bronchial carcinoma) flexible instruments should be preferred. The future belongs to the bronchofiberscopy.
