Description: Species of the genus Pontonia Latreille, 1829, are distributed in tropical and subtropical waters around the world, living in association with either molluscan or ascidian hosts. In the present taxonomic revision, Pontonia sensu lato is divided into six genera: Pontonia sensu stricto; Ascidonia gen. nov., Rostronia gen. nov., Dactylonia gen. nov., Odontonia gen. nov., and Bruceonia gen. nov. A total of 29 species is described and figured, four of which are new to science: Pontonia pilosa spec. nov., Dactylonia holthuisi spec. nov., Odontonia rufopunctata spec. nov., and O. seychellensis spec. nov. The division in six genera is based on a stepwise phylogenetic analysis using morphological characters, performed using PAUP and McClade software. The hypothesized phylogeny is used to analyse the historical biogeography of the shrimps. A deductive method using Brooks Parsimony Analysis (BPA) is performed with regards to the Atlantic and East Pacific areas. The distribution patterns in the Indo-West Pacific are tested against the three scenario\xe2\x80\x99s explaining the \xe2\x80\x98East Indies Triangle of maximum diversity\xe2\x80\x99. The historical ecology of the shrimps is analysed using their hypothesized phylogeny. In analogy with the historical biogeographical analyais, a deductive BPA method was applied, measuring the fit of the shrimp phylogeny on the hypothesized host phylogeny at different taxonomical levels of the hosts.

Description: During the CANCAP-5 expedition to the Azores (1981) a new species of Bythocaris was found.\nThe new species is described and figured. It is compared with other members of the genus. A key to the species of Bythocaris is provided. The intra-specific morphological variation of B. payeri, B. leucopis and B. simplicirostris has been studied. The relevance of this intra-specific variation for distinguishing between species is discussed.

Description: During the NNM/Maluku Expedition 1996, in the framework of the NNM Fauna Malesiana Marine Program, a shrimp belonging to the species Periclimenes imperator Bruce, 1967, was found on a nudibranch while diving at 20 m depth in Seri Bay, on the south coast of Ambon. Periclimens imperator has been recorded throughout the tropical Indo-West Pacific, from East Africa and the Red Sea to Hawaii, from nudibranch and holothurian hosts. The nudibranch was identified as Chromodorus magnifica (Quoy & Gaimard, 1832) (see Rudman, 1982: 216-219, figs. 17A, B, 18, 19). The association with Chromodorus magnifica is recorded here for the first time.

Description: The decapods Eualus lebourae, Processa modica carolii, Palaemon xiphias, Philocheras bispinosus, and Inachus phalangium are recorded from the coasts of Madeira for the first time. The decapods Hippolyte garciarasoi, Hippolyte varians, Eualus lebourae, Processa parva, Processa modica carolii, Processa robusta, Palaemonella atlantica, Periclimenes wirtzi, Philocheras bispinosus, and Philocheras fasciatus, are recorded from the coasts of the Canary Islands for the first time. Eualus occultus, Processa parva and Processa modica carolii are recorded from the Cape Verde Islands for the first time. Processa parva is also recorded for the Azores for the first time.\nFor Eualus occultus, Hippolyte garciarasoi, Processa modica carolii, Periclimenes wirtzi and Philocheras fasciatus this is an extension of the known range to the south. For Eualus lebourae, Processa parva and Palaemonella atlantica this is an extension of the known range to the north.\nThe presence of Palaemon serratus, Eualus occultus, Philocheras trispinosus, Hippolyte leptocerus, and Pilumnus villosissimus at Madeira is confirmed.
