    Description: Leptophyton benayahui gen. nov. & spec. nov. is a new genus and species (family Nephtheidae) described from material collected off Durban and on Aliwal Shoal. The genus is compared with other genera of the family that possess similar sclerites of colony morphology.

    Description: A new species of Sinularia from the Seychelles is described and depicted: S. vanderlandi. Species with colony morphology and sclerites similar to that of S. vanderlandi are discussed. Sinularia intacta Tixier-Durivault, 1970, S. rotundata Tixier-Durivault, 1970, and S. molesta Tixier-Durivault, 1970, are considered to be synonyms; S. molesta is here selected as the valid name.

    Description: The type material of shallow-water plexaurid octocorals of the Siboga expedition has been re-examined. Sclerites of all available types have been depicted using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Echinogorgia parareticulata (Stiasny, 1942) is synonymized with Echinogorgia clausa (Nutting, 1910). No type specimens of Echinogorgia thomsonideani Stiasny, 1942, Villogorgia aurivilliusi Stiasny, 1942, and Villogorgia spatulata Nutting, 1910 were found.

    Description: A collection of Sinularia specimens from Palau has been studied, which represents 38 different species. Of these, 15 are new to science, which are described and figured: S. babeldaobensis; S. bisulca; S. crebra; S. digitata; S. finitima; S. flaccida; S. foliata; S. humilis; S. luxuriosa; S. siaesensis; S. sublimis; S. tumulosa; S. ultima; S. uniformis; S. verruca. S. larsonae Verseveldt, in Verseveldt & Alderslade, 1982, is synonymized with S. sobolifera Verseveldt & Tursch, 1979.

    Description: For the first time Alcyonacea from Tanzania are recorded, including two new species: Cladiella daphnae and Sinularia platylobata. Both these species are described and figured, while descriptions are also given of specimens of Lobophytum crassum von Marenzeller, 1886, L. rotundum Tixier-Durivault, 1957, and L. venustum, Tixier-Durivault, 1957. In addition, Sinularia compactum Tixier-Durivault, 1970 and Sinularia "conferta" (Dana, 1846) are discussed.
