    Notizen: Abstract Neutral Na·(H2O) n clusters are studied by near-uv one-photon ionisation and time-of-flight mass spectroscopy. The clusters are formed in a “pickup source” by injection of a beam of Na atoms into the expansion zone of a pulsed nozzle beam of water vapour seeded into an argon carrier gas. The performance of this novel technique for studying cold aggregates of potentially reactive species is discussed in detail. The photoion efficiency (PIE) spectrum of the monomer near its ionisation threshold (4.379(2) eV) shows a rich structure. Vibrational frequencies of the ion can be deduced and some indication of molecular Rydberg states is seen. Ionisation potentials for larger clusters and the binding energies of the neutral clusters up ton=5 are reported.

    Notizen: Abstract The first reactive differential scattering study for atomic clusters is reported. Oxidation of Na x (x≦8) with O2 is investigated in a crossed beam apparatus. Sodium oxide (Na n O,n≦4) and sodium dioxide (Na n O2,n≦6) are produced with a total reactive cross section from 50 to 80 Å2, depending on the cluster size. The excess energies for these reactions are estimated by an SCF type ab initio calculation and range from 0.5 to 5 eV. The large cross section may then be understood quantitatively in terms of a harpooning mechanism as a first step in the reaction path. Angular distributions have been determined for the most abundant products, showing strong forward scattering. Two different schemes are discussed for the reaction: while the dioxides Na n O2 may be formed by an evaporative cooling process from a highly excited collision complex, formation of Na n O appears to originate from a direct process. In both cases the experimental data suggest that most of the exothermicity remains in the reaction products.

    Notizen: Abstract Free sodium ammonia clusters Na(NH3) n up ton=45 were generated in a pickup source by injecting a beam of neutral sodium atoms into the expansion zone of a piezo driven pulsed nozzle. The clusters thus formed are studied by one-photon ionisation in the region of 266 nm to 520 nm, time-of-flight mass spectrometry as well as photoelectron spectrometry. Ionisation thresholds for clusters up ton=18 and dissociation energies for the neutral Na(NH3) n up ton=6 are reported.

    Beschreibung / Inhaltsverzeichnis: The infrared spectra of the following copolymers are given: acrolein/acrylonitrile, acrolein/methylacrylate, acrolein/vinylaetate and acrolein/acrylamide. There is shown by the example of copolymers of acrolein and acrylonitile that one can obtain quantitative data on the arrangement and length of sequences in copolymers by measurements of intensities in the infrared region. The result are in agreement with those obtained from statistical calculations.
    Notizen: Die UR-Spektren folgender Copolymerisate werden mitgeteilt: Acrolein/Acrylnitril, Acrolein/Acrylsäuremethylester, Acrolein/Vinylaceatat und Acrolein/Acrylamid. Am Beispiel der Copolymeren von Acrolein und Acrylnitril wird gezeigt, daß man durch Intensitätsmessungen der UR-Absorptionsbanden zu quantitativen Aussagen über Anordnung und Länge der einzelnen Segmente im Copolymeren gelangen kann. Die so erhaltenen Ergebnisse stimmen mit statistischen Berechnungen überein.
