    Abstract: ABSTRACT This paper proposes an analysis of epistemological and didactic aspects of Chemistry programs and of some Chemistry questions of the University of São Paulo admission exam (Fuvest) from 1980 to 2018. Our analysis focuses on the criteria guiding the selection and organization of contents; on the implied relationships between the macroscopic and submicroscopic ontological levels of matter; on the use of particle models to explain such relationships; on experimentation and on the contextualization of chemical knowledge. There was a major change in the program in 1991 and a minor one in 2002, which may be related to changes in state and federal curriculum guidelines. The process outlined here, in which Science education research results influenced university admission exams, may lead to useful reflections for educators in chemistry.

    Abstract: The article brings an analysis since the authors lived experiences about the setting of the Sistema Único de Saúde - SUS - the Brazilian national health policy - in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. It takes into consideration both technical and politics issues over the public management of local health system in a city of large geographic and populational proportions, poorly fair in territorial equity. The article describes the meaning of decentralization process as the key to achieve the aims of local health system as well as shows the first results from a local health index. At the end, the authors set an agenda for the SUS development pointing essential debate in order to achieve better results in the health and social status of the Brazilian population and the needs to make the health policies long standing.

    Abstract: O território e os habitantes do Brasil foram fontes de conhecimento para a ciência europeia e riqueza para Portugal. Na Independência surgem as primeiras instituições de ensino e pesquisa. Mesmo com destaques isolados de alguns institutos, foi somente no início do século XX que a pesquisa se institucionalizou, basicamente a partir da fundação da Universidade de São Paulo, em 1934. Especialmente desde a década de 1970, as descobertas de cientistas brasileiros aumentaram o seu impacto. Atualmente, o volume da produção da ciência brasileira é destaque, mas a sua visibilidade continua sendo menor que a média mundial. A ciência é internacional, mas existe em um ambiente social local. A dimensão e a qualificação da comunidade científica permitem que a ciência de excelência amplie sua contribuição para o desenvolvimento justo e sustentável do Brasil.
