Abstract: The subclavian venous puncture catheter has been widely used in treatment of critically ill patients. However, the lack of a mechanical model for subclavian vein puncture and selection of puncture parameters lead to procedure failures. This paper develops a puncture force model, and explores the factors affecting puncture force through a series of experiments. The puncture process is divided into four stages, and a mechanical model is established for each stage. The parameters of the puncture model, including the needle insertion angle and diameter, and venous pressure, are analyzed experimentally using biological tissues. The Box–Behnken experiment design is chosen to account for the cross-interactions of the various factors considered.

Abstract: Paris polyphylla, a traditional antipyretic-detoxicate chinese medicinal herb, has been applied extensively in cancer treatments for nearly 2000 years. The purpose of the present study is to evaluate the potential anti-osteosarcoma effects of Paris polyphylla ethanol extract (PPEE) and to investigate its underlying mechanisms. The antiproliferation activity of PPEE was tested on 143B, MG-63, U-2 OS and hFOB1.19 cells using MTT assay. The pro-apoptotic and cell cycle arrest effects of PPEE were confirmed by Hoechst 33342 staining and flow cytometry. The antimigratory, anti-invasive and antivasculogenic mimicry (VM) effects of PPEE were investigated by wound healing, Transwell and 3D culture assays. Mouse xenograft model was used to examine its anti-osteosarcoma efficacy in vivo. Hematologic profiles and hepatorenal functions were evaluated to assess the toxicity of PPEE. PPEE evidently suppressed cell proliferation of 143B, MG-63 and U-2 OS with IC50 values of 10–60[Formula: see text] [Formula: see text]g/mL, but showed little cytotoxicity against normal osteoblastic cell. PPEE promoted apoptosis in 143B cell via caspase activation, increased Bax/Bcl-2 ratio and PARP cleavage. It also induced G2/M phase arrest associated with elevated phosphorylation of CDK1, Cdc25C, Chk2 and down-regulation of cyclin B1, CDK1, Cdc25C expression. Additionally, PPEE inhibited 143B cell migration, invasion and VM formation at noncytotoxic concentrations through decreasing the expression of FAK, Mig-7, MMP2 and MMP9. Finally, daily oral administration of PPEE for four weeks exhibits potent antitumor and anti-VM activity in 143B xenograft model with low toxicity. Taken together, these findings demonstrated PPEE possesses anti-osteosarcoma and anti-VM activity in vitro and in vivo, and therefore is a potential candidate for osteosarcoma treatment.

Abstract: In this work, a Ti -pillared montmorillonite with high thermal stability has been prepared by using a Na -montmorillonite as the host clay and polyhydroxy-titania ions as the pillaring precursor. The formation of Ti -pillared montmorillonite has been confirmed from the characterizations through X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric–differential scanning calorimeter, and specific surface area analyses. In the preparation of Ti -pillared montmorillonite several parameters, such as the type of solvent in which the synthesis is realized, the ratio of polyhydroxy-titania ions and montmorillonite, the intercalation time, the calcining temperature, and calcining time, were tested to understand their effects on the basal spacing. It was shown that this method could produce a Ti -pillared montmorillonite with the basal spacing of 3.74 nm, specific surface area of 409 m 2 /g, and mean pore size of 2.94 nm, as well as a high thermal stability up to 900°C.

Abstract: Radio astronomical observations are increasingly contaminated by radio frequency interference (RFI), rendering the development of effective RFI suppression techniques a pressing task. In practice, the existence of model mismatch makes the observing environment more challenging. In this paper, we develop a robust astronomical imaging method in the presence of RFI and model mismatch. The key contribution of the proposed method is the accurate estimation of the actual signal steering vector by maximizing the beamformer output power subject to a constraint that prevents the estimated steering vector from converging to the interference steering vectors. The proposed method is formulated as a quadratically constrained quadratic programming problem that can be solved using efficient numerical approaches. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract: In recent years, pregnant women in China generally face problems such as unbalanced and excessive nutrition, lack of proper exercise during pregnancy, which shows a significant increase in weight during pregnancy, leading to an increasing trend of perinatal complications. At present, there is less sports health management system for pregnant women throughout pregnancy. In view of this, based on the existing research in related fields, this study deeply explores the appropriate monitoring methods of pregnant women’s sports in China. In this study, effective and convenient testing methods and evaluation criteria were proposed for pregnant women’s sports and psychology. The research idea was a method based on the pulse wave to detect pregnant women’s cardiac reserve capacity, and grading the Diastolic/Systolic value of pregnant women as a reference for grading individualized target heart rate range of moderate intensity exercise. The effective time and energy expenditure of pregnant women were assessed by monitoring the exercise process. The purpose is to help and guide pregnant women in the whole process of pregnancy self-movement management, and thus improve the quality of maternal health care services in China.

Abstract: The inaccuracy of the battery model of an electric vehicle will seriously affect the safe operation of the electric vehicle. This paper aims to design a better identification method for Li-ion battery model parameters to improve the accuracy of the model. A least squares method was developed with variable forgetting factor (VFF) to identify the parameters of a second-order resistor-recapacitor (RC) model of Li-ion battery. After using the identified parameters, the battery model can reliably and accurately track the variability of the actual working state of the energy storage system. Results at different values of the forgetting factor were analyzed to determine the principle for selecting the value of the forgetting factor, and disclose the impacts of the factor values on model accuracy. Finally, the proposed identification algorithm was tested through comparison between results of the model simulation and experimental data. This method provides an important basis for subsequent development of accurate state-of-charge (SOC) and state-of-health (SOH) estimation algorithms.

Abstract: Fatigue driving is one of the main causes of traffic accidents. In recent years, considerable attention has been paid to fatigue detection systems, which is an important solution for preventing fatigue driving. In order to prevent and reduce fatigue driving, a driver fatigue detection system based on computer vision is proposed. In this system, an improved face detection method is used to detect the driver’s face from the image obtained by a charge coupled device (CCD) camera. Then, the feature points of the eyes and mouth are located by an ensemble of regression trees. Next, fatigue characteristic parameters are calculated by the improved percentage of eyelid closure over the pupil over time algorithm. Finally, the state of drivers is evaluated by using a fuzzy neural network. The system can effectively monitor and remind the state of drivers so as to significantly avoid or decrease the occurrence of traffic accidents. The experimental results show that the system is of wonderful real-time performance and accurate recognition rate, so it meets the requirements of practicality in driver fatigue detection greatly.

Abstract: Two three-party schemes are put forward for sharing quantum operations on a remote qutrit with local operation and classical communication as well as shared entanglements. The first scheme uses a two-qutrit and three-qutrit non-maximally entangled states as quantum channels, while the second replaces the three-qutrit non-maximally entangled state with a two-qutrit. Both schemes are treated and compared from the four aspects of quantum and classical resource consumption, necessary-operation complexity, success probability and efficiency. It is found that the latter is overall more optimal than the former as far as a restricted set of operations is concerned. In addition, comparisons of both schemes with other four relevant ones are also made to show their two features, including degree generalization and channel-state generalization. Furthermore, some concrete discussions on both schemes are made to expose their important features of security, symmetry and experimental feasibility. Particularly, it is revealed that the success probabilities and intrinsic efficiencies in both schemes are completely determined by the shared entanglement.
