Abstract: Day-ahead prediction of wind speed is a basic and key problem of large-scale wind power penetration. Many current techniques fail to satisfy practical engineering requirements because of wind speed's strong nonlinear features, influenced by many complex factors, and the general model's inability to automatically learn features. It is well recognized that wind speed varies in different patterns. In this paper, we propose a deep feature learning (DFL) approach to wind speed forecasting because of its advantages at both multi-layer feature extraction and unsupervised learning. A deep belief network (DBN) model for regression with an architecture of 144 input and 144 output nodes was constructed using a restricted Boltzmann machine (RBM). Day-ahead prediction experiments were then carried out. By comparing the experimental results, it was found that the prediction errors with respect to both size and stability of a DBN model with only three hidden layers were less than those of the other three typical approaches including support vector regression (SVR), single hidden layer neural networks (SHL-NN), and neural networks with three hidden layers (THL-NN). In addition, the DBN model can learn and obtain complex features of wind speed through its strong nonlinear mapping ability, which effectively improves its prediction precision. In addition, prediction errors are minimized when the number of DBN model's hidden layers reaches a threshold value. Above this number, it is not possible to improve the prediction accuracy by further increasing the number of hidden layers. Thus, the DBN method has a high practical value for wind speed prediction.

Abstract: Regioselective functionalization of core per-substituted boron dipyrromethenes (BODIPYs) has been achieved efficiently based on tetrabromoBODIPY, which affords a series of dibenzofuran-fused chromophores, via a regioselective nucleophilic substitution reaction followed by direct palladium-catalyzed two-fold intramolecular ring fusion. These rigid dibenzofuran-fused BODIPYs showed impressive photophysical properties such as clearly red-shifted absorption and emission bands, enhanced absorption coefficients upon and intense fluorescence (close to unity).

Abstract: We propose and analyze a novel multiway high efficiency composite beam splitter based on propagation properties of the light waves in directional coupler (DC) and ring resonator. The spectral transmittance and splitting properties of the beam splitter have been numerically simulated and analyzed using the plane wave expansion (PWE) method and finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. By simply adjusting the symmetrical coupling rods in the ring resonators, inducing the redistribution of the power of the optical field, equipartition or free distribution of the light field energy can be achieved. It was shown that the novel composite beam splitter has a large separating angle, a high beam transmittance, and high flexibility. Furthermore, this beam splitter can be easily extended to the structure with more light output channels. These features of the proposed composite beam splitter make it a promising candidate in optical communication applications.

Abstract: Cor pulmonale (pulmonary heart disease) is a chronic progressive complicated disease for which treatment needs to be sustained all the time, creating a great financial burden on individuals and society. In order to improve the life quality of cor pulmonale patients and decrease the dosage and quantity of the routine treatment, in China, TCM is often administered to patients with cor pulmonale. The results of many clinical trials have indicated that Salvia miltiorrhiza and complex Salvia miltiorrhiza injection may be an alternative medicine for cor pulmonale. With the purpose to prove whether Salvia miltiorrhiza and complex Salvia miltiorrhiza benefit the cor pulmonale patients, respectively, we carried out a systematic review to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Salvia miltiorrhiza and complex Salvia miltiorrhiza injection in cor pulmonale patients. Overall, 2,715 patients were identified from 35 randomized controlled trials. The meta-analysis used I 2 test for heterogeneity and chose random or fixed model according to heterogeneity of included studies. Clinical outcomes were evaluated by total effectiveness rate, partial pressure of oxygen ( PaO 2 ) and carbon dioxide ( PaCO 2 ), hemorheology, mPAP and adverse effects. Compared with routine medicine treatment alone, routine medicine treatment plus Salvia miltiorrhiza or complex Salvia miltiorrhiza injection showed better outcomes: A significantly higher clinical effectiveness rate ratio (p 〈 0.001), increase in PaO 2 (p 〈 0.001) and decrease in PaCO 2 (p 〈 0.001), improvement in hemorheology (p 〈 0.001), and alleviation in mPAP (p 〈 0.05). There is no obvious adverse effect reported. In summary, there are some evidences suggesting that Salvia miltiorrhiza or complex Salvia miltiorrhiza injection are active in cor pulmonale, however, the results were limited by the methodological flaws of the included studies. Long-term and high quality clinical trials are needed to provide more conclusive evidence for the future use of Salvia miltiorrhiza injection.

Abstract: An analytical study considering inhomogeneous core compression is conducted to investigate the impulsive response of fully clamped rectangular metal sandwich plate with a graded foam (GF) core. The dynamic compressive properties of GF under impulsive loading are theoretically modeled antecedently. The approximate analytical predictions are achieved for the impulsive response of rectangular sandwich plate with a linear strength distributed GF core along the thickness by using the relevant loci of a new yield criterion. The analytical predictions agree well with the finite element (FE) results and indicate that the sandwich plates with negative gradient design outperform their uniform counterparts in impulsive resistance. The present study provides an insight into understanding the blast resistance of the sandwich structures with inhomogeneous cores.

Abstract: Large-deflection bending of fully clamped slender metal foam-filled rectangular tubes is investigated theoretically, experimentally and numerically. A plastic yield criterion for the foam-filled rectangular tube is proposed. Considering the filled foam strength effect and the interaction of bending and stretching, an analytical solution is proposed to predict the structural response of the foam-filled rectangular tubes transversely loaded by a flat punch. Clamped bending tests of aluminium alloy foam-filled rectangular tubes are conducted. The analytical model captures experimental results reasonably. Numerical calculations are carried out to predict the large-deflection behavior of the foam-filled tubes, and good agreement is achieved between the analytical solutions and numerical results. The effects of wall thickness of tube, punch size and filled foam strength are discussed in detail. It is demonstrated that the present analytical model can reasonably predict the post-yield behavior of the foam-filled rectangular tube.

Abstract: A series of meso-aryloxy linked BODIPY monomers, dimers and trimer were synthesized by nucleophilic aromatic substitution (S N Ar) reaction from phenols with meso-chloro BODIPY and their photophysical properties were systematically studied by UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopy. The relationship between their photophysical properties and the spatial arrangement of meso-aryloxy linked BODIPYs has been discussed. The monomers exhibited different extent solvent-dependent fluorescence, and fluorescence quenching in polar solvents were found relative to the HOMO energies of the donor (meso-phenols), indicating possible PET effect from meso-phenols to the BODIPY fluorophore. Ortho-dimer showed unusual broad red-shifted emission bands centered at 550 nm with a larger Stokes shifts at the range of 2900–3400 cm[Formula: see text], and low fluorescence quantum yields, which was in sharp contrast to those of other dimers and trimer, indicating of possible excimeric species formation due to slipped cofacial arrangement ofortho-dimer.

Abstract: Selective fluorescent and colorimetric sensing of cysteine in methanol-HEPES buffer (45 mM, pH [Formula: see text] 7.2, v/v [Formula: see text] 1/1) solution over various common amino acids and related thiol containing compounds has been achieved based on the cyclization reaction between the formyl group on 3-formylBODIPYs and cysteine/homocystein. Upon addition of cysteine/homocystein, 3-formylBODIPYs exhibited greatly enhanced fluorescence intensity as well as an abvious red-shift of the absorption peak (20–30 nm). The detection limits for cysteine were in the range of 1.18–2.73 [Formula: see text]10[Formula: see text] M. The detection mechanism was studied by nuclear magnetic resonance and theoretical calculation.

Abstract: In this paper, we propose a novel wavelength division demultiplexer (WDDM) based on multimode interference (MMI) effect. The structure of WDDM is composed of three MMI regions, which can efficiently make two wavelengths (1310 nm and 1500 nm) to get through and one wavelength (1550 nm) to reflect back. In addition, it may also realize the separation for 1310/1500 nm. The transmittance higher than 97% and the crosstalk lower than -25 dB are achieved. It can also be extended to other wavelengths by changing the parameters of structure. The proposed device may have practical applications in photonic integrated circuits.

Abstract: A* algorithm and ant colony optimization (ACO) are more widely used in path planning among global path planning algorithms. The optimization process is analyzed and summarized from the principles and characteristics of the two algorithms, A* algorithm is mainly optimized in terms of point selection and improvement of heuristic function; and ACO is mainly investigated in terms of transfer probability and pheromone positive feedback for improvement and optimization. Taking a single algorithm solving complex optimization problems difficulties into consideration, a splitting strategy can be used. So that local path or intelligent path optimization algorithms are incorporated in global path planning to improve search efficiency and optimization quality.
