Abstract: Quasi-automatic semigroups are extensions of a Cayley graph of an automatic group. Of course, a quasi-automatic semigroup generalizes an automatic semigroup. We observe that a semigroup [Formula: see text] may be automatic only when [Formula: see text] is finitely generated, while a semigroup may be quasi-automatic but it is not necessary finitely generated. Similar to the usual automatic semigroups, a quasi-automatic semigroup is closed under direct and free products. Furthermore, a semigroup [Formula: see text] is graph automatic if and only if [Formula: see text] with a zero element adjoined is graph automatic, and also a semigroup [Formula: see text] is graph automatic if and only if [Formula: see text] with an identity element adjoined is graph automatic. However, the class of quasi-automatic semigroups is a much wider class than the class of automatic semigroups. In this paper, we show that every automatic semigroup is quasi-automatic but the converse statement is not true (see Example ??). In addition, we notice that the quasi-automatic semigroups are invariant under the changing of generators, while a semigroup may be automatic with respect to a finite generating set but not the other. Finally, the connection between the quasi-automaticity of two semigroups [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] , where [Formula: see text] is a subsemigroup with finite Rees index in [Formula: see text] will be investigated and considered.

Abstract: A facile and easily separated adsorbent, graphene oxide (GO) pellets wrapped by chitosan (GOP) were prepared. Batch adsorption studies were carried out to study the adsorption properties of congo red onto GOP by varying the experimental parameters such as the contact time, the initial concentration of congo red, the solution pH, the adsorbent dose, and the temperature. The kinetic studies showed that the adsorption data fitted a pseudo-second-order model well. The isotherm analysis showed that the adsorption data fitted the Freundlich model well. The adsorption mechanism was mainly attributed to electrostatic interactions, [Formula: see text]–[Formula: see text] stacking interaction, hydrogen bond, and van der Waals force. Thermodynamic studies indicated that the adsorption process was endothermic and spontaneous.

Abstract: In this paper, based on the Back Propagation (BP) neural network algorithm, we introduce the idea of the Simulated Annealing (SA), and then propose a new neural network algorithm: Time Simulated Annealing-Back Propagation (TSA-BP) algorithm. The proposed algorithm can improve the convergence rate and numerical stability. By using this proposed algorithm, the learning rates and initial weights in the BP neural network could be easily adjusted. We show that the TSA-BP algorithm could reduce the errors caused by human-made factors. Several numerical experiments have been tested by using different disease data. Furthermore, we compared the TSA-BP algorithm to the other existing, well-known algorithms. Numerical results show higher accuracy and efficiency of the TSA-BP algorithm.

Abstract: An automatic sleep staging method is proposed to score wakefulness and three nonrapid eye movement (NREM) stages S1, S2 and S3, based on the Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) algorithm. Patients with sleep disorders were tested using this method. Good agreements between manual and automatic staging results were achieved in terms of their Cohen's Kappa value.

Abstract: Nickel-rich LiNi[Formula: see text]Co[Formula: see text] Mn[Formula: see text]O 2 (NCM811) oxide is a prospective cathode material of Li-ion batteries owing to its high energy density and affordable price, however, it suffers from the poor cycling performance. The doping for metal cations is considered as an effective way to enhance its cycling stability. In this work, titanium was chosen to partially substitute transition-metal ions, i.e. Ni, Co and Mn, and the Ti content was optimized to improve the electrochemical performance of NCM811. The Ti-doped Li(Ni[Formula: see text]Co[Formula: see text] Mn[Formula: see text]Ti[Formula: see text] O 2 powder was prepared using high temperature solid-state synthesis. The layered [Formula: see text]-NaFeO 2 -type structure of NCM811 survives in the doped samples, and the lattice parameters [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] increase linearly with the Ti content. XPS spectra indicate that the Ni ions show a mixing state of +2 and +3, and the portion of Ni[Formula: see text] increases by the Ti doping. The cycling stability is improved evidently by a small amount of Ti doping, i.e. capacity retention of 88.3–96.9% for [Formula: see text] = 0.01–0.03 versus 64.1% for [Formula: see text] = 0 after 100 cycles at 0.1 C. Thus, the sample with [Formula: see text] = 0.01 delivers the high discharge capacity of 180.6 mAh g[Formula: see text] after 100 cycles, much greater than 116.5 mAh g[Formula: see text] of [Formula: see text] = 0. Nevertheless, more Ti doping with [Formula: see text] = 0.04–0.05 deteriorates the electrochemical performance. It illustrates the presence of optimal Ti-doping range in NCM811, which was rationalized as the synergetic effects of bond strength, Li[Formula: see text] diffusion, chemical composition and valence state of cations.

Abstract: Many major diseases, including various types of cancer, are increasingly threatening human health. However, the mechanisms of the dynamic processes underlying these diseases remain ambiguous. From the holistic perspective of systems science, complex biological networks can reveal biological phenomena. Changes among networks in different states influence the direction of living organisms. The identification of the kernel differential subgraph (KDS) that leads to drastic changes is critical. The existing studies contribute to the identification of a KDS in networks with the same nodes; however, networks in different states involve the disappearance of some nodes or the appearance of some new nodes. In this paper, we propose a new topology-based KDS (TKDS) method to explore the core module from gene regulatory networks with different nodes in this process. For the common nodes, the TKDS method considers the differential value (D-value) of the topological change. For the different nodes, TKDS identifies the most similar gene pairs and computes the D-value. Hence, TKDS discovers the essential KDS, which considers the relationships between the same nodes as well as different nodes. After applying this method to non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), we identified 30 genes that are most likely related to NSCLC and extracted the KDSs in both the cancer and normal states. Two significance functional modules were revealed, and gene ontology (GO) analyses and literature mining indicated that the KDSs are essential to the processes in NSCLC. In addition, compared with existing methods, TKDS provides a unique perspective in identifying particular genes and KDSs related to NSCLC. Moreover, TKDS has the potential to predict other critical disease-related genes and modules.

Abstract: In this paper, cross-plane thermal conductivities of the nanoporous glass alumina film (NGAF) and its composites ( Ag /NGAF, with Ag nanowires embedded in) were measured. And a model was setup to predict the thermal conductivity of the nanoporous material. Results show that the thermal conductivity of the NGAF is about 50 times smaller than that of the ceramic alumina. It is about 0.5 W ⋅ m -1 ⋅ K -1 and depends on both the pore radius and the porosity. The thermal conductivity of the Ag /NGAF is not larger than that of the NGAF. The contact resistance and the unfilled space between Ag nanowires and the matrix are responsible for that.

Abstract: In this paper, a novel underwater unidirectional acoustic transmission (UAT) device consisting of a plate with bilateral asymmetric gratings is proposed and numerically investigated. The transmission spectra, the acoustic intensity field distributions, and the displacement field distributions are numerically calculated based on the finite element method. The transmission spectra show that the proposed device exhibits different UAT effects in three bands. The acoustic intensity field distributions demonstrate that the proposed device can realize UAT, which agree well with the transmission spectra. The mechanism is discussed by analyzing the displacement field distributions, and the UAT is attributed to the symmetric mode excited in brass plate. Furthermore, the effects of the lattice constant, the upper slit width, and the lower slit width on bands are discussed. Our design provides a good reference for designing underwater UAT devices and has potential applications in some fields, such as medical ultrasonic devices, acoustic barrier, and noise insulation.

Abstract: Conventional sound shielding structures is difficult to meet the requirements of low-to-middle frequency broadband sound insulation and free ventilation. In this paper, we propose a ventilated metamaterial silencer based on Fano-like interference, which can achieve the sound transmission loss (STL) of more than 10 dB in the range of 516–970 Hz with subwavelength thickness (0.11 [Formula: see text]) while remains an opening area ratio of 23%. The designed silencer is composed of a large central orifice and four surrounding coiling channels, making the sound waves passing through the two areas generate Fano-like asymmetric transmission spectrum and form efficient reflection to insulate sound coming from various directions. The parametric studies are also carried out to investigate the tunable acoustic performance. Experiment measurement matches well with the simulation results. In the future, the proposed silencer may have potential applications in practical environments requiring broadband sound insulation and free air flows.

Abstract: A facile method was developed for in situ formation of Co nanoclusters in sol–gel silica thin films spin-coated on Si wafers. The size and density of Co nanoclusters can be controlled by spin-coating speeds, annealing methods, reduction temperatures under H 2 , and metal precursor concentrations in tetraethylorthosilicate solutions. The optimized preparation condition, spin-coating speed of 9000 rpm, annealing at 500°C in air followed by reduction at 800°C in H 2 , resulted in silica films as thin as 60 nm and Co nanoclusters with a mean diameter of 1.5 nm. Morphological and chemical characteristics of thin films and nanoclusters were studied by atomic force microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, respectively. Subsequently, these Co nanoclusters were successfully used to grow SWCNTs by CO decomposition. Film containing Co monometallic clusters produced SWCNTs of 1.3 nm in diameter, whereas film having Co/Mo bimetallic clusters produced SWCNTs of 0.9 nm. This sol–gel approach allowed not only easy catalyst patterning on a thin film but also a fine-tuning of SWCNT properties, e.g., diameter.
