Abstract: Results of a search for the pair production of charged heavy leptons in e + e − annihilations over the center-of-mass energy range of 50 to 60.8 GeV are reported. We assume that the leptons are of the sequential type but have allowed for the case where the associated neutrino might be massive. Separate searches for evidence for decays to hadronic and leptonic final states, searches specialized for the case where the charged lepton and its associated neutrino are close in mass, and a search for stable heavy leptons have uncovered no evidence for the production of such particles at these energies. Mass limits for heavy leptons and their associated neutrinos are determined for a range of hadronic and leptonic decay branching fractions. A sequential charged heavy lepton with mass between 12.6 and 29.6 GeV/c 2 and with massless neutrino is excluded at the 95% confidence level.

Abstract: A conforming point interpolation method (CPIM) is proposed based on the Galerkin formulation for 2D mechanics problems using triangular background cells. A technique for reconstructing the PIM shape functions is proposed to create a continuous displacement field over the whole problem domain, which guarantees the CPIM passing the standard patch test. We prove theoretically the existence and uniqueness of the CPIM solution, and conduct detailed analyses on the convergence rate; computational efficiency and band width of the stiffness matrix of CPIM. The CPIM does not introduce any additional degrees of freedoms compared to the linear FEM and original PIM; while convergence rate of quadratic CPIM is in between that of linear FEM and quadratic FEM which results in the high computational efficiency. Intensive numerical studies verify the properties of the CPIM.

Abstract: A phenol biosensor based on the skillful immobilization of tyrosinase on zinc oxide ( ZnO ) nanorods was proposed. The ZnO nanorods fabricated by a simple vapor-phase transport method possess a high aspect ratio, good electron communication, chemical purity, smooth and positive charged surface and are ready for immobilization of biochemicals with low isoelectric point (IEP). Electrochemical measurement and Scanning Electron Microscopic (SEM) analysis showed that the enzyme of tyrosinase with IEP 4.5 can be adsorbed on the surface of ZnO nanorods and kept its bioactivity of the oxidation of phenol to a large extent. This led us to develop phenol biosensor with good stability and reproducibility. The proposed method creates a new way to develop biosensors using nanostructured materials with high IEP.

Abstract: This pilot study analyzed the loading on the medial forefoot (MF) region during walking in high-heel shoes. Eight healthy female volunteers have participated in this study with the heel height varied from 0 cm (flat), 4.5 cm (low), and 8.5 cm (high). The results showed that the load on MF increased with the heel height and the magnitude of the load could be effectively reduced by using foam inserts. Comparative studies of foams with different hardness and thicknesses showed that thicker soft foams had a significant advantage over thiner hard foams (P 〈 0.05) in reducing the peak pressures. An optimum condition with a thick soft insert could reduce MF pressure by 26%, impact force by 27%, and force time integral by 20% when compared to the condition without insert.

Abstract: Dissolved oxygen (DO) plays an important role in industrialized freshwater aquaculture. Such deficiencies such as the high cost of water-quality monitoring system and the failure to accurately monitor or describe aquaculture water-quality existed in freshwater aquaculture water-quality monitoring system. Here, a kind of representation method applied to characterize industrialized aquaculture fish behavior in different degrees of DO deficiency is based on three-dimensional (3D) Computer Vision. 3D coordinate values of aquaculture fishes in water acquired from 3D Computer Vision Device by processing aquaculture fish image are applied to represent such parameters as the average activity and height of aquaculture fish in water. This method for representing different behaviors of industrialized freshwater aquaculture fish under the condition of anoxia is realized by using these parameters and combing with the experience of aquaculture. The results show that the representation of industrialized freshwater aquaculture fish based on 3D Computer Vision System can be applied to describe industrialized aquaculture fish behavior and effectively compensate for the shortfall spatial location of aquaculture fish unable to acquire from 2D monitoring system, which is helpful for the accurate and reasonable control of DO in aquaculture.

Abstract: A δ-type potential with complex prefactor is modeled on the tunneling barrier of a thin insulator (I) film separating two ferromagnetic (FM) films. By matching value and slope of wave functions across the tunneling barrier of a FM/I/FM junction, we obtain a general expression for tunneling conductance as a function of relative orientation θ between magnetizations of the two ferromagnets, barrier height and interface roughness. It is shown that the magnitude of tunneling magnetoresistance is strongly dependent on θ, but much less affected by the barrier height and the interface roughness.

Abstract: Phonon-drag effect usually occurs in single crystals at very low temperatures (10–200 K). Strong phonon-drag effect is observed in ultra-thin β- FeSi 2 films at around room temperature. The Seebeck coefficient of a 23 nm-thick β- FeSi 2 film can reach -1.375 mV/K at 343 K. However, the thermoelectric power factor of the film is still small, only 0.42×10 -3 W/m-K 2 , due to its large electrical resistivity. When a 27 nm-thick MnSi 1.7 film with low electrical resistivity is grown on it, the thermoelectric power factor of the MnSi 1.7 film can reach 1.5×10 -3 W/m-K 2 at around room temperature. This value is larger than that of bulk MnSi 1.7 material in the same temperature range.

Abstract: The introduction of an un-doped silicon layer (spacer) enhances significantly the thermoelectric power factor in modulation-doped Si(Al)-MnSi 1.7 -Si(Al) sandwich structure. This un-doped silicon layer is inserted between the MnSi 1.7 (HMS) and Al -doped silicon layers. With a proper spacer thickness, the electrical resistivity decreases sharply and is weakly dependent on temperature from 300 K to 683 K. As a result, the thermoelectric power factor can reach 0.973 × 10 -3 W/m-K 2 at 683 K, which is about ten times larger than that of an ordinary MnSi 1.7 film without modulation doping.

Abstract: We have investigated the dry oxidation behavior of an AlN epilayer on Si(111) substrate by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) at different temperatures and different oxidation times through XRD analysis and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The AlN epilayer has been completely oxidized into polycrystalline α- Al 2 O 3 after oxidation at 1100°C for 2 h. The ratio of O 2 to N 2 introduced into the furnace has an influence on the structure of α- Al 2 O 3 . There are only α- Al 2 O 3 (104), (113) diffraction peaks in the XRD curve if the O 2 : N 2 is lower than 0.2:1. At the temperature over 1100°C, the oxidation is initiated with a rapid oxidation process, followed by a relatively slow process. These two oxidation stages are respectively related to the interfacial reaction mechanism and the diffusion mechanism.
