Abstract: Previous studies describing renal denervation (RDN) from the intima of the renal artery for the treatment of resistant hypertension have reported variable efficacies, and RDN triggers renal intimal injury and atherosclerosis. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of RDN from the adventitia of renal artery plus unilateral laparoscopic adrenalectomy to treat patients with resistant hypertension caused by unilateral aldosterone‐producing adenoma (APA). A total of 60 consecutive patients with resistant hypertension caused by unilateral APA were enrolled in this study. Patients were randomly assigned to undergo RDN from the adventitia of the renal artery plus adrenalectomy (RDN group, n = 30) or adrenalectomy alone (control group, n = 30) and were followed up for 12 months. The primary efficacy end point was the change in 24‐hours mean ambulatory systolic blood pressure (SBP) from baseline to 12 months. At the 12‐month follow‐up, the mean reduction of 24‐hours average SBP and office SBP in the RDN group was 20.7 ± 15.2 and 37.1 ± 26.0 mm Hg, respectively, which was significantly higher than the mean reduction of 24‐hours average SBP (11.9 ± 11.1 mm Hg, P  = .017) and the office SBP (25.9 ± 16.8 mm Hg, P  = .035) in the control group. Serum potassium levels returned to normal 12 months post‐procedure. Patients in the RDN group had higher proportion of cured clinical and biochemical outcomes than those in the control group (35.7% vs 17.9% in clinical outcome; 96.4% vs 89.3% in biochemical outcome, respectively). There were no procedural‐, device‐, or treatment‐related safety events during the 12‐month follow‐up period between the groups. In conclusion, RDN from the adventitia of the renal artery plus unilateral laparoscopic adrenalectomy is more effective than adrenalectomy alone for treating resistant hypertension caused by unilateral APA.

Abstract: Compared with optical remote sensing satellites, the geometric positioning accuracy of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite is not affected by satellite attitude or weather conditions. SAR satellites can achieve relatively high positioning accuracy without ground control points, which is particularly important in global surveying and mapping. However, the stereo positioning accuracy of SAR satellites is mainly affected by the SAR systematic delay and the atmospheric propagation delay of radar signals. An iterative compensation method for the SAR systematic time delay is proposed based on digital elevation model to improve the stereo positioning accuracy of SAR satellites without control points. In addition, to address the non‐real‐time updates of external reference atmospheric param, an iterative compensation method to estimate the atmospheric propagation delay of radar signals is proposed based on standard atmospheric models. In this study, SAR images from the Gaofen‐3 (GF‐3) satellite with 5 m resolutions were used as experimental data to verify the effectiveness of our proposed method. Simultaneously, the 2D positioning accuracy was better than 3 m and increased by 42.9%, and the elevation positioning accuracy was better than 3 m and increased by 90.2%.

Abstract: Wing dimorphism in Nilaparvata lugens is controlled by the insulin‐like growth factor 1 (IGF‐1) signaling – Forkhead transcription factors (IIS‐FoxO) pathway. However, the role of this signal in the wing development program remains largely unclear. Here, we identified 2 R‐SMAD proteins, Nl MAD1 and Nl MAD2, in the brown planthopper (BPH) transcriptome, derived from the intrinsic transforming growth factor‐ β pathway of insect wing development. Both proteins share high sequence similarity and conserved domains. Phylogenetic analysis placed them in the R‐SMAD group and revealed related insect orthologs. The expression of Nlmad1 was elevated in the late instar stages of the macropterous BPH strain. Nlmad1 knockdown in nymphs results in malformed wings and reduced wing size in adults, which affects the forewing membrane. By contrast, Nlmad2 expression was relatively consistent across BPH strains and different developmental stages. Nlmad2 knockdown had a milder effect on wing morphology and mainly affected forewing veins and cuticle thickness in the brachypterous strain. Nl MAD1 functions downstream of the IIS‐FoxO pathway by mediating the FoxO‐regulated vestigial transcription and wing morph switching. Inhibiting Nlmad1 partially reversed the long‐winged phenotype caused by NlFoxO knockdown. These findings indicate that Nl MAD1 and Nl MAD2 play distinct roles in regulating wing development and morph differentiation in BPH. Generally, Nl MAD1 is a key mediator of the IIS‐FoxO pathway in wing morph switching.

Abstract: This study was performed to investigate whether intensive antihypertensive treatment with achieved blood pressure ( BP ) ≤140/90 mm Hg, as compared with standard treatment with achieved BP ≤150/90 mm Hg, could further improve cardiovascular outcomes in Chinese hypertensive patients older than 70 years. A total of 724 participants were randomly assigned to intensive or standard antihypertensive treatment. After a mean follow‐up of 4 years, the mean achieved BP was 135.7/76.2 mm Hg in the intensive treatment group and 149.7/82.1 mm Hg in the standard treatment group. The visit‐to‐visit variability in systolic BP and diastolic BP was lower in the intensive group than that in the standard group. Intensive antihypertensive treatment, compared with the standard treatment, decreased total and cardiovascular mortality by 41.7% and 50.3%, respectively, and reduced fatal/nonfatal stroke by 42.0% and heart failure death by 62.7%. Cox regression analysis indicated that the mean systolic BP ( P =.020; 95% confidence interval, 1.006–1.069) and the standard deviation of systolic BP ( P =.033; 95% confidence interval, 1.006–1.151) were risk factors for cardiovascular endpoint events. Intensive antihypertensive treatment with achieved 136/76 mm Hg was beneficial for Chinese hypertensive patients older than 70 years. Long‐term visit‐to‐visit variability in systolic BP was positively associated with the incidence of cardiovascular events.

Abstract: The main objective of this paper was to assess the capability of multisource remote sensing imagery fusion for coastal zone classification. Five scenes of Gaofen- (GF-) 1 optic imagery and four scenes of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) (C-band Sentinel-1 and L-band ALOS-2) imagery were collected and matched. Note that GF-1 is the first satellite of the China high-resolution earth observation system, which acquires multispectral data with decametric spatial resolution, high temporal resolution, and wide coverage. The results showed that based on the comparison of C- and L-band SAR for coastal coverage, it is verified that C band is superior to L band and parameter subsets of σ v v 0 , σ v h 0 , and D c r o s s can be effectively used for coastal classification. A new fusion method based on the wavelet transform (WT) was also proposed and used for imagery fusion. Statistical values for the mean, entropy, gradient, and correlation coefficient of the proposed method were 67.526, 7.321, 6.440, and 0.955, respectively. We therefore conclude that the result of our proposed method is superior to GF-1 imagery and traditional HIS fusion results. Finally, the classification output was determined along with an assessment of classification accuracy and kappa coefficient. The kappa coefficient and overall accuracy of the classification were 0.8236 and 85.9774%, respectively, so the proposed fusion method had a satisfying performance for coastal coverage mapping.

Abstract: Background:  To investigate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in an urbanizing community in Qingpu, a suburb of Shanghai, and to determine which obesity indices, including body mass index, waist circumference (WC), and waist:hip (WHpR), and waist:height (WHtR) ratios, are most closely associated with metabolic syndrome. Methods:  We conducted a cross‐sectional health survey of 1634 individuals (age 15–87 years) in the Jinhulu community located in Qingpu. The National Cholesterol Education Program Expert Panel on Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Cholesterol in Adults (NCEP ATP III) criteria were used to define metabolic syndrome, with central obesity defined according to Asia–Pacific (APC) region criteria. Results:  The age‐standardized prevalence of metabolic syndrome was 3.6% in men and 7.2% in women. Using the criterion of central obesity in the APC, the age‐standardized prevalence of metabolic syndrome increased to 8.3% in men and 10.9% in women. Regardless of age, WHtR consistently showed a higher odd ratios (OR) after adjustment for confounding factors of 2.17 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.12–4.20; P  = 0.022) in subjects 〈 52 years of age and 1.92 (95% CI 1.18–3.11; P  = 0.008) in those ≥52 years of age. In men, the WHtR was the only significant predictor (OR 2.42; 95% CI 1.15–5.08; P  = 0.02) of metabolic syndrome after adjustment, whereas in women WHtR (OR 1.87; 95% CI 1.37–2.85; P  =0.0088) was slightly inferior to WHpR and WC. Conclusion:  Metabolic syndrome is prevalent in an urbanizing rural area in Qingpu. Of the anthropometric parameters commonly used to identify metabolic syndrome, WHtR may be the best.

Abstract: Improving the low‐temperature water‐resistance of methane combustion catalysts is of importance for industrial applications and it is challenging. A stepwise strategy is presented for the preparation of atomically dispersed tungsten species at the catalytically active site (Pd nanoparticles). After an activation process, a Pd−O−W 1 ‐like nanocompound is formed on the PdO surface with an atomic scale interface. The resulting supported catalyst has much better water resistance than the conventional catalysts for methane combustion. The integrated characterization results confirm that catalytic combustion of methane involves water, proceeding via a hydroperoxyl‐promoted reaction mechanism on the catalyst surface. The results of density functional theory calculations indicate an upshift of the d‐band center of palladium caused by electron transfer from atomically dispersed tungsten, which greatly facilitates the adsorption and activation of oxygen on the catalyst.
