Abstract: The poly(2,5‐dimethoxyaniline) (PDMA) were synthesized through interfacial polymerization method using three various organic solvent/water reaction systems. As comparison with conventional chemical polymerized PDMA, the interfacial polymerization can produce uniform nanoparticular PDMA, especially for using high density (higher than water) solvent as organic phase. The capacitive performances of interfacial polymerized PDMA can be benefited from its uniform morphologies and loose packing structure. The specific capacitance of interfacial polymerized PDMA using carbon tetrachloride is 194 Fg −1 at current density of 50 mA cm −2 , which has 59% enhancement over 122 Fg −1 of conventional PDMA at the same current density. The energy density of interfacial polymerized PDMA is 39 Wh kg −1 at current density of 5 mA cm −2 and the power density is 28,421 W kg −1 at current density of 50 mA cm −2 . The energy density has improvement in different extent as comparison with that of conventional PDMA. The enhanced capacitive performances can be attributed to the increased ionic conductivity induced by the loose molecular packing structure and uniform morphology produced by the interfacial polymerization process. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract: A Pr 3+ ‐doped transparent oxyfluoride glass‐ceramic containing Ca 5 ( PO 4 ) 3 F nanocrystals was prepared by melt quenching and subsequent thermal treatment. The crystallization phase and morphology of the Ca 5 ( PO 4 ) 3 F nanocrystals were investigated by X‐ray diffraction and transmission electron microscope, respectively. The volume fraction of the Ca 5 ( PO 4 ) 3 F nanocrystals in the glass‐ceramic is about 10% and the fraction of Pr 3+ ions incorporated into the Ca 5 ( PO 4 ) 3 F nanocrystals is about 22%. The peak absorption cross sections at 435 and 574 nm increase up to 128% and 132% after crystallization, respectively. The peak stimulated emission cross sections of the 3 P 0 → 3 H 4 blue laser channel and 3 P 0 → 3 F 2 red laser channel for the glass‐ceramic are 4.95 × 10 −20 and 29.8 × 10 −20  cm 2 , respectively. The spectral properties indicate that the glass‐ceramic is a potential visible laser material.

Abstract: Using a unique data set of information ratings (IRs) for firms listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange from 2001 to 2018, we examine the impact of information asymmetry on capital structure decisions in China. We determine that firms with higher IRs have fewer debt issuances and lower leverage. This negative relationship is consistent for firms listed on the Main Board, Small and Medium‐sized Enterprise (SME) board and Growth Enterprise Market (GEM) board. We further decompose IR into accounting‐associated and nonaccounting‐associated components and find that both are negatively correlated with leverage. Additional analyses reveal that for firms listed on the SME and GEM boards, the nonaccounting‐associated component exhibits a stronger relationship with leverage than does the accounting‐associated component. Our results suggest that information asymmetry is instrumental in capital‐structure decision‐making.

Abstract: Increasing mold temperature is effective to improve the surface quality of injection molding foamed products, but high mold temperature often leads to deteriorative cellular quality. Based on this, the polypropylene/high melt strength polypropylene (PP/HMSPP) composites with temperature insensitivity were prepared by a simple melt blending method, the rheological behavior and crystallization behavior of PP/HMSPP composites were studied by rotational rheometer and DSC at different cooling rates, respectively. In addition, foamed PP/HMSPP composites were prepared by chemical foaming injection molding, and their cellular quality, surface quality, and mechanical properties were analyzed. The results showed that when the content of HMSPP came to 50 wt%, the effect of the cooling rate on the rheological behavior of PP/HMSPP composites could be ignored. Furthermore, when the mold temperature increased from 60 to 120°C, the surface quality increased significantly, with the average cell diameter only increasing from 15.92 μm to 19.03 μm, and the cell density decreasing from 2.3 × 10 7  cells/cm 3 to 1.9 × 10 7  cells/cm 3 . The tensile strength, bending strength, and impact strength were maintained at 24.15 MPa, 38.11 MPa, and 3.24 kJ/m 2 , respectively. This temperature‐insensitive PP/HMSPP composite foaming material can be used as guidance for the industrial stable production of PP injection molding chemical foaming. And this work suggested new thinking for future research on the modification of other polymer foam products at a high mold temperature.

Abstract: We investigate the role of managerial ability in the relationship between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and firm performance in the energy industry, where sustainability issues are of special interest. We first identify a positive association between CSR and firm value, which, however, disappears when considering managerial ability. Only the MA‐associated components of CSR increases energy firms' value. Finally, managers with superior ability can still efficiently implement CSR activities to foster firm value during the financial crisis. Taken together, these results suggest that higher managerial ability is a crucial certification of the benefit of CSR investment, which in turn improves firm value, particularly during unstable periods.

Abstract: Accumulating evidence has suggested that extracellular vesicles (EVs) play a crucial role in lung cancer treatment. Thus, we aimed to investigate the modulatory role of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell (BMSC)‐EV‐derived let‐7i and their molecular mechanism in lung cancer progression. Microarray‐based analysis was applied to predict lung cancer‐related miRNAs and their downstream genes. RT‐qPCR and Western blot analyses were conducted to determine Let‐7i, lysine demethylase 3A (KDM3A), doublecortin‐like kinase 1 (DCLK1) and FXYD domain‐containing ion transport regulator 3 (FXYD3) expressions, after which dual‐luciferase reporter gene assay and ChIP assay were used to identify the relationship among them. After loss‐ and gain‐of‐function assays, the effects of let‐7i, KDM3A, DCLK1 and FXYD3 on the biological characteristics of lung cancer cells were assessed. Finally, tumour growth in nude mice was assessed by xenograft tumours in nude mice. Bioinformatics analysis screened out the let‐7i and its downstream gene, that is KDM3A. The findings showed the presence of a high expression of KDM3A and DCLK1 and reduced expression of let‐7i and FXYD3 in lung cancer. KDM3A elevated DCLK1 by removing the methylation of H3K9me2. Moreover, DCLK1 suppressed the FXYD3 expression. BMSC‐EV‐derived let‐7i resulted in the down‐regulation of KDM3A expression and reversed its promoting role in lung cancer development. Consistently, in vivo experiments in nude mice also confirmed that tumour growth was suppressed by the BMSC‐EV‐derived let‐7i. In conclusion, our findings demonstrated that the BMSC‐EV‐derived let‐7i possesses an inhibitory role in lung cancer progression through the KDM3A/DCLK1/FXYD3 axis, suggesting a new molecular target for lung cancer treatment.

Abstract: This paper combines the Kalman filtering technique and the time‐varying parameter vector autoregression model with stochastic volatility model to explore pure contagion effects between energy and nonenergy (i.e., industrial metals, precious metals, and agricultural) commodity markets. Empirical results show the significant pure contagion effects between energy and industrial metals markets in most periods, while pure contagion effects between energy and precious metals and agricultural markets occur only in a few specific periods. Comparing the level of pure contagion effects between different commodity markets, energy is still the main price transmitter. In addition, with the acceleration of the global commodity market financialization process, the frequency and harm of pure contagion effects are gradually increasing. Notably, the COVID‐19 pandemic is emerging as another major crisis after the global financial crisis, exacerbating the pure contagion effects between energy and precious metals and agricultural markets.

Abstract: Citropin 1.1, maculatin 1.1, and caerin 1.1 are short antibacterial cationic peptides from the skin glands of the Australian tree frog Litoria species. Several analogues have been synthesized to give a better insight into the relationship between the structure of the peptides and their antibacterial and haemolytic activity. Binding studies using a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensor together with a vesicle‐capture sensor chip have been used to investigate selectivity of the peptides and their analogues for 1,2‐dimyristoyl‐sn‐glycero‐3‐phosphoglycerol (DMPG) and 1,2‐dimyristoyl‐sn‐glycero‐3‐phosphocholine (DMPC) vesicles, as well as for vesicles made from lipid extracts from Escherichia coli and bovine brain. Data obtained for membrane selectivity using natural lipid extracts show better correlation with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values against Gram‐positive bacteria and haemolytic activity than that obtained using synthetic DMPG and DMPC. Electron microscopy and membrane leakage studies using Gram‐positive bacteria gave further insight into the membrane disruption properties of the peptides. For maculatin 1.1, it was found that the central proline residue, which is responsible for a bend in the α‐helical structure, is essential not only for the antibacterial activity but also for binding, and perturbation of membranes. The caerin analogues showed only small variations in their MIC values and membrane binding. In contrast, for citropin 1.1, the analogue replacing the aspartate with a lysine showed the lowest MIC against Gram‐positive bacteria and best membrane binding to E. coli lipid extracts, coinciding with an increased hydrophobic moment of the peptide. These data give further insight into these antimicrobial natural products, toward the development and evaluation of these and other analogues as potential antibiotics. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract: Bacillus thuringiensis is the most widely used eco‐friendly biopesticide, containing two primary determinants of biocontrol, endospore and insecticidal crystal proteins (ICPs). The 2‐methylcitrate cycle is a widespread carbon metabolic pathway playing a crucial role in channelling propionyl‐CoA, but with poorly understood metabolic regulatory mechanisms. Here, we dissect the transcriptional regulation of the 2‐methylcitrate cycle operon prpCDB and report its unprecedented role in controlling the sporulation process of B. thuringiensis . We found that the transcriptional activity of the prp operon encoding the three critical enzymes PrpC, PrpD, and PrpB in the 2‐methylcitrate cycle was negatively regulated by the two global transcription factors CcpA and AbrB, while positively regulated by the LysR family regulator CcpC, which jointly account for the fact that the 2‐methylcitrate cycle is specifically and highly active in the stationary phase of growth. We also found that the prpD mutant accumulated 2‐methylcitrate, the intermediate metabolite of the 2‐methylcitrate cycle, which delayed and inhibited sporulation at the early stage. Thus, our results not only revealed sophisticated transcriptional regulatory mechanisms for the metabolic 2‐methylcitrate cycle but also identified 2‐methylcitrate as a novel regulator of sporulation in B. thuringiensis .
