Abstract: The Altman’s model is a multiple discriminant analysis bankruptcy model that uses ordinarily accepted criteria that may provide a useful decision rule to predict financial distress in firms. In this research, we outline the construction and interpretation of the Z-Score influenced by the stock movement for the period of six years in the Republics of Macedonia and Serbia. Research focuses determining the influence of the market value of companies and if it could be related to potential bankruptcy of companies at specific markets.

Abstract: The aim of this study was to present the results of one original method application in internal fixation of long bones. The series of 27 patients with unilateral fractures of femoral shaft was analyzed. According to AO classification, 21 fractures were classified as 32A, five as 32B, and one as 32C type. Original diaphyseal self-dynamisable internal fixator (model 1) was used as a fixation implant, consisting of three components: specially designed extramedullary bar, clamps and screws. The main feature of this implant is a possibility to become dynamic in the axial direction spontaneously if there is no sufficient fracture healing. Because of that, this implant is known as an „intelligent implant“. Surgical method included a standard surgical approach and minimally invasive surgical approach. Minimally invasive technique of application required less blood transfusion and shorter surgery time when compared to the standard surgical approach. The duration of used intraoperative fluoroscopy control was 7(3-18) seconds. The average healing time was 4.3 (3.5-9.5) months. There were neither intra operative nor postoperative complications. In comparison to intramedullary nails, self-dynamisable internal fixator provides a similar treatment results, while in comparison to plates it provides fewer mechanical complications. Self-dynamisable internal fixator method preserves periosteal and intramedullary blood circulation, and it is the first fixation implant with a possibility of spontaneous axial dynamising activation when needed. This implant has been proven as suitable for routine use in the treatment of femoral shaft fractures.

Abstract: To investigate susceptibility of young Scots pine seedlings to four Phytophthora species: Phytophthora cactorum , Phytophthora cambivora , Phytophthora plurivora and Phytophthora pini ; seven-day-old seedlings of Scots pine (15 seedlings per experiment) were infected using agar plugs of the respective species. Control group also consisted of 15 seedlings and was inoculated with sterile agar plugs. Results unambiguously show that after 4.5 days, all seedlings show clear signs of infection and display severe symptoms of tissue damage and necrosis. Moreover, three and two seedlings in the P. cactorum and P. cambivora infected seedlings groups, respectively, collapsed. The length of largest necrosis measured 13.4±3.90 mm and was caused by P. cactorum . To rule out any putative contamination or infection by secondary pathogens, re-isolations of pathogens from infection sites were performed and were positive in 100% of plated pieces of infected seedlings. All re-isolations were, however, negative in the case of the control group. Detailed microscopic analyses of infected tissues of young seedlings confirmed the presence of numerous Phytophthora species inside and on the surface of infected seedlings. Therefore, our results suggest Phytophthora spp. and mainly P. cactorum and P. cambivora as aggressive pathogens of Scots pine seedlings and highlight a putative involvement of these species in the damping off of young Scots pine seedlings frequently observed in forest nurseries.

Abstract: The aim of this study is to determine whether the use of tranexamic acid (TXA) in patients with hip fracture reduces intraoperative and postoperative blood loss, and on the other hand, whether it increases thromboembolic risk. The study was performed on patients with hip fracture for a period of one year. Patients were divided into two groups (1:1): the first group receiving TXA and the second group receiving placebo. The amount of blood aspiration during the surgery was measured as well as drainage in the postoperative period of 24 h. The occurrence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) was monitored before and after the surgery by ultrasound of the lower extremities. The amount of total blood loss was two times lower in patients who received TXA (291.8 ± 65.5 mL of blood vs 634.7 ± 150.5 mL of blood). Among the patients who developed DVT, one patient was from the group that did not receive TXA, and two patients were from the group that received TXA. The use of TXA in patients with hip fracture significantly reduces intraoperative and postoperative blood loss, without a significant thromboembolic risk.

Abstract: The aim of the paper is to identify a potential linear correlation between direct taxes and economic growth. The subject of the paper includes estimating the level and intensity of correlation between direct taxes and economic growth in OECD countries for the period 1996-2016. The study analyses tax forms such as personal income tax, corporate income tax and tax on property, and their potential relationship with economic growth, measured by GDP growth rate. Also, tax revenues growth has been included to determine whether it directly affects the economic growth in observed countries. The results of the group correlation matrix have shown that there is a statistically significant relationship between tax revenues growth, personal income tax, corporate income tax and gross domestic product in OECD countries. However, it is important to note that tax on property and gross domestic product are not significantly correlated at the OECD level, which is logical given the low share of this tax in those countries.

Abstract: To assess the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) in obese children and adolescents in Serbia. The study group consisted of 254 subjects (148 female and 106 male), aged 4.6–18.9 years with diet-induced obesity (body mass index ≥95th percentile). Presence of MS using the International Diabetes Federation definition was assessed in all subjects, as well as oral glucose tolerance test and insulin resistance indices. Overall prevalence of MS in all subjects aged ≥10 years was 31.2%, namely, 28.7% in children aged 10 to 〈 16 years and 40.5% in adolescents ≥16 years. When adjusted for age, gender and pubertal development, higher degree of obesity was a strong predictor of MS. Multivariate analysis showed that taller subjects and those with higher degree of insulin resistance were at significantly higher risk of MS, independent of the degree of obesity. High prevalence of MS emphasizes the need for prevention and treatment of childhood obesity.

Abstract: The effect of operating parameters such as reaction mixture inlet pressure p 1 (101.3–1013.2 kPa), methanol to oil molar ratio M 1 (3–12), the concentration of catalyst C c (0.0–1.0 wt%), temperature T (25–50 °C) and the number of passes of the reaction mixture through the venturi type hydrodynamic cavitation reactor n (1–12) on alkali-catalyzed transesterification of sunflower oil with methanol assisted by hydrodynamic cavitation (ACTC) on the value of the degree of triglyceride conversion (DTC) was investigated. ACTC was performed by the venturi-type hydrodynamic cavitation reactor (VCR) of our construction. It was found that the values of DTC increase with the increase in p 1 , M 1 , C c , and n , and decrease with the increase in T . Cavitation yield (CY) values were calculated. The ACTC was proved to be the simplest, fastest, and most highly energy-efficient current technology for the production of biodiesel.

Abstract: The aim of the paper was to examine the relation between bone density and certain parameters of lipid status in postmenopausal women. The research involved 300 women referred to densitometric examination as they belonged to the risk group of postmenopausal women. All the examinees had the following biochemical parameters determined: total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, glycemia, serum Ca and P. Univariate logistic regression analyses showed that each year of age, menopause duration, AH are significantly connected to risk increase for the appearance of osteopenia or osteoporosis. Increase in values of SBP, DBP, cholesterol, LDL and triglyceride are connected with significant risk increase for the appearance of osteopenia or osteoporosis. Patients with AH are connected to 11 times elevated risk for the appearance of osteopenia or osteoporosis, cigarette smoking increased the risk by seven times, physical inactivity even by 52 times, CVD in the family anamnesis by eight times, and osteoporosis in the family anamnesis is connected to the risk by four times. In our research, atherogenic lipoproteins negatively correlate with lumbar bone density. Disturbed lipide status is a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, but also a risk factor for the appearance of osteoporosis.

Abstract: The aim of the study was to analyze perioperative parameters as well as early postoperative period of patients with trochanteric fractures nailing in relation to the fracture stability. The prospective study included 46 patients with trochanteric fractures fixed with the third generation cephalomedullary nail. Two groups were formed - stable fractures (Group 1) and unstable fractures (Group 2). There were 20 patients in Group 1, and 26 in Group 2. All the patients underwent Bioimpianti “basic-nail” fracture fixation. Perioperative and early postoperative parameters were monitored and the groups were compared. The average duration of surgery in both groups was not significantly different. The number of patients needing transfusion as well as the average transfusion volume was similar in both groups. Average Intensive care unit (ICU) stay and hospitalization were longer in Group 1, though not significantly. In both groups, 80% of patients started early rehabilitation according to the protocol. Trochanteric fracture fixation with Bioimpianti “Basic-nail” is a minimally invasive, safe method, giving the similar perioperative and early postoperative outcome regardless of the fracture stability. It enables fast postoperative recovery and reduction of early postoperative complications.

Abstract: Since the 1990s there have been major changes in the way monetary policy is conducted. Since other monetary strategies did not result in the desired outcome, the first concept of inflation targeting was presented in New Zealand (1990), then in Canada (1991), England (1992), Sweden and Finland (1993), Australia and Spain (1994), Israel, Chile, Brasil, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Serbia and other countries. Thus, the application of this monetary regime has spread from economically developed to developing countries. This article examines the adoption, the formal framework for inflation targeting and the experience of the two countries that were leaders in the adoption of this modern strategy, New Zealand and Canada. At the time of the announcement of the inflation targets, inflation in both countries was around 6%. However, there are differences regarding the time frame. So, in New Zealand in a shorter period of time, credibility should have been achieved regarding the imbalance of monetary and fiscal policy. While, on the other hand, a longer time frame is envisaged for the Central Bank of Canada regarding achieving greater flexibility to mitigate price shocks. After all the above, it can be concluded that both observed countries (Canada and New Zealand) during the period 2008-2017, achieved positive effects from inflation targeting. In this sense inflation rates in the target range of 1-3% were achieved, except for a few years after the financial crisis (2008-2011), but after certain revisions of the formal framework, both countries successfully fought for greater economic growth and financial stability. The inflation targeting regime proved to be very successful in achieving the set targets, so both Central Banks continued to constantly update the formal and informal inflation targeting frameworks, in order to continuously achieve the expected effects.
