Abstract: The imperative use of ionizing radiation in medicine causes the inevitable occupational exposure of the medical workers during the course of routine duties. The magnitude of health risk due to such radiation exposures has been described in terms of occupational radiation doses. In this context, it is obligatory to monitor, measure and document the radiation dose of occupationally exposed medical workers. This study aims to review the whole-body occupational radiation exposures of medical workers in Pakistan. Specifically, online literature published during 2000-2018 was reviewed for the occupational radiation exposures of Pakistani medical workers. Analysis of the extracted personal dosimetry data revealed that the total number of monitored medical occupational workers was 26046. The range of total cumulative and annual average effective doses was 94-15785 Person-mSv and 0.66-7.37 mSv, respectively. A significant number of the workers (25477; ~98%) received an annual dose below 5 mSv, while only 18 workers received an occupational exposure exceeding the annual dose limit of 20 mSv. It is expected that this study will provide a useful reference for evaluating and improving radiation protection and safety policies in the country.

Abstract: In this paper the helical flows of fractionalized Maxwell fluid model, through a circular cylinder, is studied. The motion is produced by the cylinder that at the initial moment begins to rotate around its axis with an angular velocity Omegatp, and to slide along the same axis with linear velocity Utp. The solutions that have been obtained using Laplace and finite Hankel transforms and presented in series form in terms of the newly defined special function M(z), satisfy all imposed initial and boundary conditions. Moreover, the corresponding solutions for ordinary Maxwell and Newtonian fluid obtained as special cases of the present general solution. Finally, the influence of various pertinent parameters on fluid motion as well as the comparison among different fluids models is analyzed by graphical illustrations.

Abstract: Responsive molecularly imprinted microgels (MIGs) have gained a lot of interest due to their responsive specificity and selectivity for target compounds. Study on MIGs is rapidly increasing due to their quick responsive behavior in various stimuli like pH and temperature. MIGs show unique property of morphology control on in-situ synthesis of nanoparticles in response of variation in reactant concentration. Literature related to synthesis, parameters, characterization, applications and prospects of MIGs are critically reviewed here. Range of templates, monomers, initiators and crosslinkers are summarized for designing of desired MIGs. This review article describes effect of variation in reactants combination and composition on morphology, imprinting factor and percentage yield of MIGs. Hydrolysis of similar templates using MIGs is also described. Relation between percentage hydrolysis and hydrolysis time of targets at different temperatures and template:monomer ratio is also analyzed. Possible imprinting modes of ionic/non-ionic templates and its series are also generalized on the basis of previous literature. MIGs are investigated as efficient anchoring vehicles for adsorption, catalysis, bio-sensing, drug delivery, inhibition and detection.

Abstract: This research work is related to the use of environment friendly materials like fibers of coir, polypropylene and jute in concrete. An economical reinforced concrete is produced by reducing the diameter of steel bar by using fiber ropes. We have examined the compressive and flexural strength of fiber-reinforced concrete. In this study, concrete mix is prepared by using coir fibers. Although instead of using only conventional steel bars, reinforced concrete behavior was investigated with the combination of polypropylene fiber and jute fiber ropes along with steel bars for a constant water binder ratio. These fiber ropes are wound around steel bar with the help of Zepoxy 300 for proper bonding of fiber ropes and steel bar. The results demonstrate that properties of concrete are enhanced by using fibers. Fiber ropes with steel bar in coir concrete increased the flexural strength and compressive strength by 6 and 7%, respectively. Furthermore, it is observed that the addition of fibers in concrete changes the cracking pattern of reinforced concrete beams.

Abstract: The goal of this work is the approximate solutions of a viscous incompressible fluid impinging orthogonally on a porous flat plate. The equation governing the flow of an incompressible fluid is investigated using the homotopy perturbation method (HPM) with the aid of Padé-approximants. The approximate solutions can be successfully applied to provide the value of the skin-friction. The reliability and efficiency of the approximate solutions were verified using numerical solutions in the literature.

Abstract: Extraction of Eu(III), Tb(III) and Lu(III), as representatives of lanthanides, has been studied with picrolonic acid [1- p -nitrophenyl-3-methyl-4-nitro-5-pyrazolone (HPA)] as extractant in various solvents such as acetylacetone (ACAC), 1-octanol (ONL), n -hexanol (HNL), 1-butanol (nBNL), 2-butanol (iBNL), cyclohexanone (CHN), n -butyl ether (BE), di(1,2-dichloroethyl)ether (DCEE), diisobutylketone (DIBK), benzene and toluene from aqueous solution of pH 1–2, having ionic strength of 0.01 mol dm −3 (K + /H + , Cl − ). The composition of the extracted adduct has been determined as M(PA) 3 except in DCEE where it is M(PA) 3 ·(HPA). Extraction constants (logߙ K ex ) were calculated and on the basis of logߙ K ex , the role of diluents in the extraction process has been discussed. The solvents with respect to their extractability of the rare earth metal ions can be arranged in the order ACAC 〉 DIBK 〉 BE 〉 DCEE 〉 ONL 〉 HNL 〉 CHN.

Abstract: Oil reservoirs contain large amounts of hydrocarbon rich produced water, trapped in underground channels. Focus of this study was isolation of PHA producers from produced water concomitant with optimization of production using animal fat and glycerol as carbon source. Bacterial strains were identified as Bacillus subtilis (PWA), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PWC), Bacillus tequilensis (PWF), and Bacillus safensis (PWG) based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Similar amounts of PHA were obtained using animal fat and glycerol in comparison to glucose. After 24 h, high PHA production on glycerol and animal fat was shown by strain PWC (5.2 g/ L, 6.9 g/ L) and strain PWF (12.4 g/ L, 14.2 g/ L) among all test strains. FTIR analysis of PHA showed 3-hydroxybutyrate units. The capability to produce PHA in the strains was corroborated by PhaC synthase gene sequencing. Focus of future studies can be the use of lipids and glycerol on industrial scale.

Abstract: The physical mechanism of magnetosonic perturbations which modifies the Jeans instability in streaming quantum dusty magnetoplasmas is examined. These perturbations are low frequency and electromagnetic in nature that propagate with Alfvén speed. The fluid model consisting of momentum balance equations for quantum plasmas, Poisson’s equation for gravitational potential, and Maxwell’s equations for magnetosonic perturbations is used for the coupled solution. The numerical analysis of the dispersion relation elaborates the significant contribution of streaming speed of plasma species at equilibrium v 0 , uniform external magnetic field B 0 , electron number density at equilibrium n 0e , and variable dust mass m d over the Jeans instability. This study helps to understand the possible mechanism responsible for the formation of astrophysical objects.
