Abstract: This study develops a new method of synthesizing podands containing thioether fragments 1.10-bis(2-formylphenyl)-1.10-dithia-4.7-dioxadecane and 1.10-bis(2-acetophenyl)-1.10-dithia-4.7-dioxadecane. The synthesized podands’ transformations were studied in acidic condition to obtain products of the croton condensation reaction having arylenone fragment. All the synthesized compounds’ bioactivities were predicted by PASS online programme in which podand (9) was evaluated for its antibiotic activity. The structure of the new podand was determined by IR, 1H NMR, MS spectrums.

Abstract: In this paper, an electrocoagulation reactor was set up to investigate the ammonium removal in Nam Son landfill leachate. The research focused on studying several factors that affect to the ammonium removal namely current intensity, operating time, initial pH and electrode materials. Mono-polar electrocoagulation reactor was conducted in a batch system with iron electrodes and 1.8 L leachate. The research indicated that current intensity and operating time are directly proportional with NH4+ treatment performance. When applied current increased from 1 to 4A, the NH4+ removal percentage went up from 14.03 to 24.99% after a 1 hour treatment. The effect of initial pH in range of 5 to 10 has showed that the best NH4+ treatment efficiency in neutral and mild alkaline conditions. It is noticeable that iron electrodes had higher NH4+ removal than aluminum one during nearly the first 40 min, however this trend has been reversed later with the advantage belonging to aluminum anode. The optimum operating conditions found are aluminum electrodes, applied current of 3A, electrolysis time of 60 min, raw pH of 8, resulting in NH4+ treatment performance of approximately 24%. As a result, the electrocoagulation method is not really effective in NH4+ removal and might be applied as a pre-treatment.

Abstract: Currently, the legal area of a land parcel in cadastral map is defined as the projected area of the parcel on a map plane. However, in practice, the real surface area of parcels plays important role for land use. In plain regions, the differences between real and legal areas of parcels are negligible, but in hilly and mountainous regions, these differences are significant and must be accounted in land management. In this paper, the authors had proposed a method for calculating real surface area of land parcels using GIS and data extracted from digital elevation models. The method was verified against Vietnam’s standard on cadastral map by using a simulated land parcel that is a part of a sphere, and got positive results. The method is then applied for calculating surface area of more than 2000 land parcels in Tien Xuan Commune, Thach That District, Hanoi City. The obtained results showed that the differences between real and legal areas of land parcels can reach a value of 23% for forestry land at mountain side with slope of more than 30o. In whole Tien Xuan Commune, these differences have an average value of 2.4%.

Abstract: One of the major and serious pollution issues in an agriculture-based country as Vietnam is derived from herbicide, especially Glyphosate herbicide which can cause a massive quantity of adverse effects and acute toxicity to aquatic life and human health. Hence, this research focused on setting up an electro-Fenton system with a Pt gauze anode and a commercial carbon felt cathode for Glyphosate herbicide treatment with the primary mechanism based on the in situ hydrogen peroxide electro-generation and ferrous ion catalyst regeneration. This study investigated effect of initial pH and current intensity on both the amount of hydrogen peroxide production and the Glyphosate mineralization performance. The results indicated that the pH value was 3, the quantity of H2O2 production on cathode reached largest, then the Glyphosate mineralization performance was optimum, approximately 0.15 mg/L and 60% at 50 electrolysis time respectively. Moreover, when current intensity increased, the amount of H2O2 electro-generation increased, leading to better Glyphosate mineralization efficiency. Nonetheless, in order to minimize the electrode corrosion as well as save energy cost, the optimum current intensity was found being 0.5 A.

Abstract:   This study describes the current implementation of the Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) standards by a number of selected pharmacies in Ha Dong, Hanoi in 2018. Staff members of the selected pharmacies were interviewed using the questions developed based on the GPP standards. The analysis of the interview results shows that by qualification, the interviewed pharmacists fell into three groups: intermediate diploma, associate’s diploma and bachelor’s degree, accounting for 43.23%, 54.23% and 2.54%, respectively. All the studied pharmacies fully fulfilled the GPP requirements in terms of equipment for and arrangement of their functional areas. 74.58% of the pharmacies had their own drug stores; 11.86% of them practiced computerized business management. A hundred percent of the executive pharmacists well fulfilled their job duties, which guaranteed the availability of 100% of drug transactions for electronic search. However, 90.68% of the investigated pharmacies let their pharmacists make changes to prescriptions. As a concluding remark, although the selected pharmacies in Ha Dong district met the general GPP standards, the maintenance of the standards implementation, consultant pharmacist qualification and computerized management still need further improvement. Abstract: From the field survey research between 2012 and 2021, we herein provide a list of 39 threatened species of amphibians and reptiles from Son La Province. Of these, the following species have high conservation values: two species are listed in the Governmental Decree No. 64/2019/ND-CP, 12 species are listed in the Governmental Decree No. 84/2021/ND-CP, 12 species are listed in the CITES Appendices, 22 species are listed in the Vietnam Red Data Book (2007), and 24 species are listed in the IUCN Red List (2022). In addition, 21 species are being exploited for food and wildlife trade by local people. Major threats to the habitat and populations of amphibians and reptiles in the study areas include deforestation, slash-and-burn cultivation, hunting activities, exploitation of forest products, quarrying, hydropower and road construction, as well as overharvesting for food and trade. The research results provide a scientific base for conservation and management of amphibians, reptiles and biodiversity of Son La Province.

Abstract: Objectives: studying clinical and paraclinical characteristics of laryngeal cancer. Patients and methods: 31 laryngeal cancer patients were diagnosed and treated in the Oncology Department of the national otorhinolaryngology hospital of Vietnam from 11/2022 to 4/2023 by a cross-sectional descriptive study. The results: patients having the most common age range was 60-80 occupied 52.8%, and the mean age was 60.5 ± 9.4, ranging from 35 to 80. Males occupied 97.2% (35/36), females 2.8% (1/36). The most common functional symptom was hoarseness with 94.4%. The mean time of symptom onset was 5.9 ± 6.1, ranging from 1-36 months. The most common tumor site is the vocal cords, accounting for 97.2% of endoscopic and 80.6% of CT SCAN findings. Squamous cell carcinoma accounts for 100%. Tumors in stage I account for 50%. Surgery is the main treatment (75%). Conclusion: Laryngeal cancer is one of the cancers with a high rate in our country. The symptoms are usually non-specific, with hoarseness being the most common symptom. The common form of the disease is squamous cell carcinoma, and surgical treatment at an early stage is the main method.

Abstract: A series of eight 3-oxapentane podand derivatives was successfully prepared  based on the croton condensation reaction from 1,5-bis(aryl)-1,5-dithia-3-dioxadecane and 1,5-bis(aryl)-1,3,5-trioxadecane with bezaldehyde or acetophenone derivatives in acidic condition. These synthesized derivatives have structure of acyclic crown rings inserted by polyether or polythiaether chain and vinyl ketone chain conjugated with aryl group. Therefore, they are important sources for host-guest chemistry. They can wrap around a central alkali metal cations as well as organic cations and anions or even molecules to make interesting ion pair receptors. Structure of new podands was determined by spectral analyses including IR, 1H NMR, MS spectrocopies.
