Abstract: Chemical investigation of the sesame-associated fungal strain Penicillium hetheringtonii IMBC-NMTP04 resulted in isolation of five compounds, penicitrinone A (1), dihydrocitrinin (2), janthinone (3), coniochaetone B (4), and 9-oxo-10(E),12(E)-octadecadienoic acid (5). Their chemical structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods, including 1D and 2D NMR and mass spectra in comparison with the literature data. Compound 1 showed modest cytotoxicity toward LNCaP, HepG2, MCF-7, KB, SK-Mel-2, and HL-60 human cancer cell lines, with IC50 values ranging from 60.1 to 84.2 mM while 5 was cytotoxic toward only HL-60 cell line (IC50 = 71.6 mM). All the compounds significantly inhibited E. faecalis, S. enterica, and C. albicans growth, with MIC values ranging from 12.5 to 50.0 mM. Compounds 2, 4, and 5 suppressed the growth of B. cereus, while both 1 and 2 showed antimicrobial effect against E. coli, with the same MIC value of 200 mM. This is the first time to report the chemical constituents of Penicillium hetheringtonii and the antimicrobial effect of 2–4.

Abstract: Abstract: During the study of the literature, collecting specimens from the field and studying the specimens of Ficus genus in herbarium and international botanical specimens, we found the species: Ficus squamosa, a new record for flora of Vietnam. It is closed to Ficus hispida and chiefly differs in caespitose habit and lateral bracts present on fig body. In this paper, we introduce for this species with a short data on taxonomy, types, morphology, ecology and distribution of the mentioned species accompanied with the photos. The vouchers were collected in Cham Chu special used forest (Tuyen Quang province), preserved in the Herbarium of the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources, Hanoi, Vietnam (HN) and VNU-University (HNU).

Abstract: We present a novel low-power architecture for the generation of multilevel pulse amplitude modulation (PAM-4) signal generation.  A new structure of a micro-ring resonator based on a 4´4 MMI (Multimode interference) coupler is proposed to control the coupling coefficient and Fano shapes. Based on this structure, a high linearity of the transmission is created, compared with the Mach Zehnder Interferometer (MZI) conventional structure. Here, instead of using directional couplers and MZI as shown in the previous reports, in our method only two 4´4 multimode interference structures on silicon on insulator (SOI) waveguides has been used. The new design is compatible and suitable for the current CMOS fabrication technology. In this work, the special design is as follows: one of two MMI couplers is used to be a micro-ring resonator and two segmented phase shifters are used in the micro-ring resonator to generate 4 levels of the PAM-4 signal. The micro-ring resonator is controlled to work at the over-coupled region, so the Fano effect can be generated. This proposed PAM-4 architecture uses the generated Fano effect, therefore an extreme reduction in power consumption can be achieved. A large fabrication tolerance of ±500 nm and a compact footprint of 10´500 µm2 can be carried-out. The device is simulated and optimally designed using the FDTD (finite difference time domain) and EME (Eigenmode Expansion). This architecture can be useful for optical interconnects and data center network applications.

Abstract: We herein introduce a new approach to synthesize MoO2/graphene composites via plasma-enhanced electrochemical exfoliation process. Our samples were prepared by electrifying graphite rods in (NH4)2Mo7O24 solution under a DC voltage of 70V. By controlling the experimental parameters such as the initial ratio of [Mo7O24]2– precursor, the current and time, we can modify the size and the size distribution of MoO2 nanoparticles on graphene sheets. The composites were characterized with Scanning Electron Microscopy, Transmission Electron Microscopy, X-ray Diffraction and Raman Spectroscopy.

Abstract: Abstract. A total of 443 medicinal plant species were recorded in Cham Chu Nature Reserve Area belonging to 325 genera and 120 families. Most of the medicinal plant species in Cham Chu Nature Reserve Area are Angiosperms with 425 species (95.94%) (360 Dicotyledonae, 65 Monocotyledonae), 6 species belong to the Gymnosperms (1.35%), 10 species are Polypodiophyta (2.26%), Psilotophyta and Lycopodiophyta are only one species (0.23%). The richest 3 families are Euphorbiaceae with 22 (4.97%) species, Rubiaceae with 17 (3.83%) species and Asteraceae ranks third, with 16 (3.61%) species, respectively. When the medicinal plant of the area are analysed by Raunkiaer’s life form system, the results are follows as: phanerophytes 311 (73.18%), chamaephytes 45 (10.59%), hemicryptophytes 10 (2.355%), cryptophytes 33 (7.76%), and therophytes 26 (6.12%) species, respectively.

Abstract: The vegetation diversity at Cham Chu nature reserve has two vegetation type groups at different heights (upper and under 700 m). The vegetation type group in upper 700 m with 4 types are subtropical evergreen closed forest (I), closed evergreen tropical rain forest on limestone mountains (II), closed forest mixed with broadleaf and coniferous trees (III), and tropical evergreen sparse forest that regeneration after exploiting (IV). The vegetation type group under 700 m with 3 types are closed evergreen tropical rain forest on lowland (V), closed evergreen tropical rain forest on limestone mountains (VI) and secondary vegetation that impacts by human (VII).

Abstract: The Taxus chinensis (Pilg.) Rehder belongs to the Taxaceae family, confer plants and is a rare and precious tree species of Vietnam which was recognized for its use value. The most of them are distributed in the high mountains of Vietnam. The resource values of this species were found as medicine, precious wood and an ornamental. So, looking back to the long history of use as well as overall research on species of the Taxus L. genus, the up-to-date reporting on Taxus chinensis is relatively much less extensive. These studies are an effort to understand the anatomical delimitation of Taxus chinensis (Pilg.) Rehder in a better way and morphological characteristic with updated is provided. The comparative morphological and anatomical research method were used, Taxus chinensis has dominent characteristic with winter bud scales, gather into a cone shape, early deciduous; leaves linear, thick textured; pale to white at abaxially because of the thick stomata bands.

Abstract: Scutellaria L. is a genus of flowering plant in the Lamiaceace. The genus includes about 350 species commonly known as skullcaps. Scutellaria is widespread in temperate regions and tropical mountains including Europe, North America and East Asia. 15 species belonging to Scutellaria genus were recorded in Vietnam. The perennial herb Scutellaria tonkinensis Doan is an endemic species of Vietnam and is recorded in Lao Cai and Vinh Phuc provinces. In this study, anatomical charateristics of this species using double-staining method have been investigated. The anatomical characteristics indicate that S. tonkinensis Doan adapt to a habitat with high moisture and intensive insolation.
