Abstract: The aim of this paper was the HA and β-TCP powers were synthesized by a new wetchemical method using eggshell and phosphoric acid. The biocompatibility of synthesized natural HA, HA/β-TCP(50:50) and β-TCP derived from eggshell was compared with those of as commercial chemical powder with mesenchymal stem cells derived from human bone marrow. Development of crystalline phases of the mixtures was studied as functions of mixing ratio and temperature using X-ray diffractometer. The morphological characteristics of the calcined eggshell and synthesized powders were examined by scaning electron microscopy. The in-vitro cytotoxicity and cell attachment of sintered disks were examined using human bone marrowderived multipotent stem cells(hBMSCs). Cell response was characterized by MTT assay , Alkaline phosphatase stain and RT-PCR analysis. Pure HA was synthesized in the mixing ratio of 1:1.1 wt% at 900°C for 1h. the crystallization of HA was started at 800°C in the 1:1.1 mixing ratio, ant the HA phase was continued up to the high temperatures. In the ratio of 1:1.3 and 1:1.5 wt%, β-TCP was effectively synthesized at 900°C. In the 1:1.5 ratio, β-TCP phase was detected at 700°C, and complete crystallized β-TCP was observed above 900°C. At the higher temperature than 1000°C, the β-TCP was gradually decreased and α-TCP was observed. The HA and β-TCP disk does not exert cytotoxic effect on the hBMSCs undergoing osteoblastic differentiation. In addition, the hBMSCs are adhered on the surface of synthesized natural HA and β-TCP disk as successfully as on the culture plate or as commercial chemical HA and β-TCP disk. The hBMSCs adhered on either synthesized natural HA, β-TCP or as commercial chemical HA, β-TCP disk displays undistinguishable actin arrangement and cellular phenotypes, indicating that synthesized natural HA, β-TCP does not disrupt normal cellular responses. Analysis of differentiation of the hBMSCs cultured on culture plate, synthesized natural HA, β-TCP and as commercial chemichal HA, β-TCP disk shows that three matrices are able to support osteoblastic differentiation of the hBMSCs as accessed by alkaline phosphatase staining.

Abstract: Flame propagation characteristics of hydrogen/carbon monoxide/methane (or propane)–air premixed mixtures were studied in a constant pressure combustion chamber with a schlieren system at room temperature and elevated pressures. Unstretched laminar burning velocities and Markstein lengths of various mixtures were obtained by analyzing high-speed schlieren images. Also, the experimentally measured unstretched laminar burning velocities were compared with numerical predictions using the PREMIX code with a H2/CO/C1–C4 mechanism, USC Mech II, developed by Wang et al. [23]. The two data from experiments and predictions show good agreement. The results indicate a significant increase in the unstretched laminar burning velocities with hydrogen enrichment and a decrease with the addition of hydrocarbons, whereas the opposite effects for the Markstein lengths were observed.

Abstract: The water quality measurement device that we developed measures pH, water temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, turbidity and nitrate. And it measures all parameters simultaneously. The water resistant and screw packing technology also applied for improved mechanical reliability during water quality monitoring. A comparison between the performances of major company products (YSI, Hydrolab etc.) and this device don't provide a stark contrast. This device was verified through the KOREA’s Environmental Examination Methods. This device is offered reliable and cost-effective water quality monitoring solutions. Upgrades will be available and will include the technologies that are self-cleaning optical sensors with integrated wipers remove biofouling and maintain high data accuracy and optimal power management and built-in battery compartment extends in situ monitoring periods.

Abstract: EPP(Expanded Polypropylene) media with a large surface area was developed to treat the first flush of storm water from motorway. A series of studies have been carried out concerning the main mechanism of physical characteristics with the filtration and adsorption of EPP media in EcoTank system in order to evaluate the performance risk for treating trace metals (Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb and Zn) under uncertainty. In view of quantitative and qualitative risk analysis, this study assesses the uncertainty analysis involved in predicting of treating heavy metals from road runoff using an EcoTank system. Results of treatment performance estimation after the treatment of trace metals using an uncertainty analysis were 50.0.% probability (class 3; moderate) for Cd, 52.0% probability (class 4; high) of Cr, 47.1% probability (class 3; moderate) for Cu, 44.4% probability (class 3; moderate) for Pb and 51.2% probability (class 4; high) for Zn, respectively. The performance risk values of all the heavy metals satisfied the acceptable criteria.

Abstract: In this study, to effectively control urban non point source pollution, natural and artificial materials which were processed in various ways were charged as a filter media in a real size urban non point source pollution plant(EcoTank) and compared and evaluated the efficiency of filtering solid and organic compounds. The efficiency of filter media was evaluated after collecting dust from urban surface and artificially producing runoffs to evaluate runoff control efficiency of pollutants that caused from pollution in urban streets. To evaluate the efficiency of pollutants runoff control depending on different filter types, EPP(Expanded polypropylene), GAC(Granular activated carbon), Zeolite, Mix-1(EPP in the upper part, GAC in the lower part), Mix-2(GAC in the upper part, EPP in the lower part) was charged to the EcoTank and conducted experiments in an identical condition[6]. As a result of the filter evaluation using real size reactor, EPP was identified as the best filter media for non point source pollution runoff control, and the efficiency was in the following order: EPP 〉 Mix-1 〉 Mix-2 〉 GAC 〉 Zeolite.

Abstract: The cost for nonpoint source in urban area tends to increase as it's distanced farther from the pollution source. Thus it's more effective to dispose of the pollution at the pollution source. It becomes more difficult when nonpoint source is flowed into the surface water by stormwater. In case of combined sewer, increasing stormwater on impermeable surface causes the Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs) containing the high level of pollutants which runs into the water system through the storm overflow diverging tank without treatment process. A huge amount of CSOs is generated instantly and as it carries the pollutants on impermeable surface as well as the deposits in sewage pipe, it's necessary to develop the technology for treatment of CSOs. This study was intended to develop the solid fabric filter which will be suitable for treatment of CSOs and the characteristic and performance of solid fabric filter were evaluated.

Abstract: This paper discusses the 3-level charge pumping method in planar-type Silicon-Oxide-High-k-Oxid e-Silicon (SOHOS) and Silicon-Oxide-Nitride-Oxide-Silicon (SONOS) devices to find out the reason for degradation of data retention properties. In the CP thechnique, a pulse is applied to the gate of the MOSFET which alternately fills the traps withe electrons and holes, thereby causing a recombination current Icp to flow in the substrate. A 3-level charge pumping method may be used to determine not only interface trap densities but also capture cross sections as a function of trap energy. By applying this method, SOHOS device found to have a higher interface trap density than SONOS device. Therefore, degradation of data retention characteristics is attributed to the many interface trap sites.

Abstract: The process of tube bending involves using mechanical force to push stock material pipe or tubing against a die, forcing the pipe or tube to conform to the shape of the die. For some tube bending processing, a mandrel is placed inside the tube to prevent collapsing. In this study, the elbow bending process using mandrel has been investigated to fabricate precise elbow-shaped tubes. To fabricate tube having target shape within the dimensional tolerance, the process analysis has been performed at various processing parameters such as tube dimensions, tilting angles, curved cutting surface and the radius of curvature. To estimate the dimensional accuracies of formed tubes, the standard deviations of dimensional errors between target and formed tubes have been used as a quantitative index. Results show that the elbow tube having larger radius of curvature shows higher dimensional accuracy due to the relatively uniform strain distribution. And the convex cutting surface is desirable to increase contacts between the punch and the tube ends during the bending process.

Abstract: Experiments in a constant pressure combustion chamber at room temperature and elevated pressures using schlieren system were conducted to investigate the cellular instabilities in hydrogen/carbon monoxide/methane (or propane)–air premixed flames. In the present study, hydrodynamic and diffusional-thermal instabilities were evaluated to elucidate their effects to flame instabilities. Effective Lewis numbers of premixed flames with methane addition decrease for all of the cases. Meanwhile, the effective Lewis numbers with propane addition increase for lean and stoichiometric conditions, but they increase for rich and stoichiometric cases for hydrogen-enriched flames. With propane addition, the propensity for cells formation is significantly diminished whereas the cellular instabilities for hydrogen enriched flames are promoted. With methane addition, the similar behavior of cellularity is obtained, indicating that methane is not a candidate for suppressing cells formation in hydrogen/carbon monoxide/methane–air premixed flames.

Abstract: Rapid grain growth and artificial aging characteristics during heat treatment is investigated for hot extruded Al-Zn-Mg-Cu-(Sc) alloys. Two Al-0.1wt%Sc alloys with different alloying element content are hot extruded to make T-shape bars at 380°C, and then the bars are solution treated for 2 hours at 480oC followed by artificial aging for 24 hours at 120°C. Microstructural evolution of the hot extruded bar is analyzed with optical microscope and electron back scattered diffraction (EBSD) mapping. Two kind of extruded bar shows different grain growth behavior at surface region and different artificial aging characteristics. The interaction between the precipitates and the grain growth during the heat treatment is thought to be responsible for the different grain growth behavior.
