    Abstract: The prevalence of preterm birth has been rising, and there is a paucity of nationwide data on the perinatal characteristics and neonatal outcomes of twin deliveries of very preterm infants (VPIs) in China. This study compared the perinatal characteristics and outcomes of singletons and twins admitted to neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) in China. Methods The study population comprised all infants born before 32 weeks in the Chinese Neonatal Network (CHNN) between January 2019 and December 2019. Three-level and population-average generalized estimating equation (GEE)/alternating logistic regression (ALR) models were used to determine the association of twins with neonatal morbidities and the use of NICU resources. Results During the study period, there were 6634 (71.2%) singletons and 2680 (28.8%) twins, with mean birth weights of 1333.70 g and 1294.63 g, respectively. Twins were significantly more likely to be delivered by caesarean section ( p   〈  0.01), have antenatal steroid usage ( p  = 0.048), have been conceived by assisted reproductive technology (ART) ( p   〈  0.01), have a higher prevalence of maternal diabetes ( p   〈  0.01) and be inborn ( p   〈  0.01) than singletons. In addition, twins had a lower prevalence of small for gestational age, maternal hypertension, and primigravida mothers than singletons (all p   〈  0.01). After adjusting for potential confounders, twins had higher mortality rates (adjusted odds ratio [AOR] 1.28, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.10–1.49), higher incidences of short-term composite outcomes (AOR 1.28, 95% CI 1.09–1.50), respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) (AOR 1.30, 95% CI 1.12–1.50), and bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) (AOR 1.10, 95% CI 1.01–1.21), more surfactant usage (AOR 1.22, 95% CI 1.05–1.41) and prolonged hospital stays (adjusted mean ratio 1.03, 95% CI 1.00–1.06), compared to singletons. Conclusion Our work suggests that twins have a greater risk of mortality, a higher incidence of RDS and BPD, more surfactant usage, and longer NICU stays than singletons among VPIs in China.

    Abstract: Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is the leading cause of death among preterm infants born at 〈  30 weeks’ gestation. The incidence of NEC is reduced when infants are fed human milk. However, in many neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), it is standard practice to freeze and/or pasteurize human milk, which deactivates bioactive components that may offer additional protective benefits. Indeed, our pilot study showed that one feed of fresh mother’s own milk per day was safe, feasible, and can reduce morbidity in preterm infants. To further evaluate the benefits of fresh human milk in the NICU, a randomized controlled trial is needed. Methods Our prospective multicenter, double-blinded, randomized, controlled trial will include infants born at 〈  30 weeks’ gestation and admitted to one of 29 tertiary NICUs in China. Infants in the intervention (fresh human milk) group ( n  = 1549) will receive at least two feeds of fresh human milk (i.e., within 4 h of expression) per day from the time of enrollment until 32 weeks’ corrected age or discharge to home. Infants in the control group (n = 1549) will receive previously frozen human milk following the current standard protocols. Following informed consent, enrolled infants will be randomly allocated to the control or fresh human milk groups. The primary outcome is the composite outcome mortality or NEC ≥ stage 2 at 32 weeks’ corrected age, and the secondary outcomes are mortality, NEC ≥ stage 2, NEC needing surgery, late-onset sepsis, retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), weight gain, change in weight, increase in length, increase in head circumference, time to full enteral feeds, and finally, the number and type of critical incident reports, including feeding errors. Discussion Our double-blinded, randomized, controlled trial aims to examine whether fresh human milk can improve infant outcomes. The results of this study will impact both Chinese and international medical practice and feeding policy for preterm infants. In addition, data from our study will inform changes in health policy in NICUs across China, such that mothers are encouraged to enter the NICU and express fresh milk for their infants.     Abstract: The administration of antenatal corticosteroids (ACS) to women who are at risk of preterm birth has been proven to reduce not only the mortality, but also the major morbidities of the preterm infants. The rate of ACS and the risk factors associated with ACS use in Chinese population is unclear. This study aimed to investigate the rate of ACS use and the associated perinatal factors in the tertiary maternal centers of China. Methods Data for this retrospective observational study came from a clinical database of preterm infants established by REIN-EPIQ trial. All infants born at  〈  34 weeks of gestation and admitted to 18 tertiary maternal centers in China from 2017 to 2018 were enrolled. Any dose of dexamethasone was given prior to preterm delivery was recorded and the associated perinatal factors were analyzed. Results The rate of ACS exposure in this population was 71.2% (range 20.2 – 92%) and the ACS use in these 18 maternal centers varied from 20.2 to 92.0% in this period. ACS exposure was higher among women with preeclampsia, caesarean section delivery, antibiotic treatment and who delivered infants with lower gestational age and small for gestational age. ACS use was highest in the 28–31 weeks gestational age group, and lowest in the under 26 weeks of gestational age group (x 2  = 65.478, P   〈  0.001). ACS exposure was associated with lower odds of bronchopulmonary dysplasia or death (OR, 0.778; 95% CI 0.661 to 0.916) and invasive respiration requirement (OR, 0.668; 95% CI 0.585 to 0.762) in this population. Conclusion The ACS exposure was variable among maternity hospitals and quality improvement of ACS administration is warranted.

    Abstract: Amine oxidase copper-containing 1 ( AOC1 ) is considered an oncogene in many types of tumors. Nevertheless, there have been no investigations of AOC1 and its regulatory mechanism in prostate cancer. Here, we reveal a novel action of AOC1 and a tumor suppressor mechanism in prostate cancer. AOC1 is downregulated in prostate cancer. Abatement of AOC1 in prostate cancer tissue is positively correlated with the tumor size, lymph node metastasis, and Gleason score for prostate cancer. Conversely, high expression of AOC1 is significantly associated with reduced proliferation and migration in prostate cancer both in vitro and in vivo. We show that the anticancer effect of AOC1 is mediated by its action on spermidine which leads to the activation of reactive oxygen species and ferroptosis. AOC1 expression in prostate cancer is positively regulated by the transcription factor SOX15 . Therefore, SOX15 can transcriptionally promote AOC1 expression and strengthen this effect. Targeting AOC1 and SOX15 may be promising for the treatment of prostate cancer.

    Abstract: With the continuous development of mobile edge computing and the improvement of unmanned vehicle technology, unmanned vehicle could handle ever-increasing demands. As a significant application of unmanned vehicle, spatial crowdsourcing will provide an important application scenario, which is about to organize a lot of unmanned vehicle to conduct the spatial tasks by physically moving to its locations, called task assignment. Previous works usually focus on assigning a spatial task to one single vehicle or a group of vehicles. Few of them consider that vehicle team diversity is essential to collaborative work. Collaborative work is benefits from organizing teams with various backgrounds vehicles. In this paper, we consider a spatial crowdsourcing scenario. Each vehicle has a set of skills and a property. The property denotes vehicle’s special attribute (e.g., size, speed or weight). We introduce a concept of entropy to measure vehicle team diversity. Each spatial task (e.g., delivering the take-out, and carrying freight) is under the time and budget constraint, and required a set of skills. We need to assure that the assigned vehicle team is diverse. To address this issue, we first propose a practical problem, called team diversity spatial crowdsourcing (TD-SC) problem which finds an optimal team-and-task assignment strategy. Moreover, we design a framework which includes a greedy with diversity (GD) algorithm and a divide-and-conquer (D & C) algorithm to get team-and-task assignments. Finally, we demonstrate efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed methods through extensive experiments.

    Abstract: A total of 1520 patients with urinary stones from central China were collected and analysed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy between October 1, 2016 and December 31, 2019. For all patients, age, sex, comorbidities, stone location, laboratory examination and geographic region were collected. The most common stone component was calcium oxalate (77.5%), followed by calcium phosphate (8.7%), infection stone (7.6%), uric acid (UA) stone (5.3%)and cystine (0.9%). The males had more calcium oxalate stones (p  〈  0.001), while infection stone and cystine stones occurred more frequently in females (p  〈  0.001). The prevalence peak occurred at 41–60 years in both men and women. UA stones occurred frequently in patients with lower urinary pH (p  〈  0.001), while neutral urine or alkaline urine (p  〈  0.001) and urinary infection (p  〈  0.001) were more likely to be associated with infection stone stones. Patients with high levels of serum creatinine were more likely to develop UA stones (p  〈  0.001). The proportion of UA stones in diabetics was higher (p  〈  0.001), and the incidence of hypertension was higher in patients with UA stones (p  〈  0.001). Compared to the other types, more calcium oxalate stones were detected in the kidneys and ureters (p  〈  0.001), whereas struvite stones were more frequently observed in the lower urinary tract (p = 0.001). There was no significant difference in stone composition across the Qinling-Huaihe line in central China except UA stones, which were more frequently observed in patients south of the line (p  〈  0.001).
