Notes: Abstract In the chemical evolution of the Galaxy, Type II supernovae (SNe II)have contributed to the early metal enrichment and later Type Iasupernovae (SNe Ia) have contributed to the delayed enrichment of Fe.In principle, hypothetical pre-galactic population III objects couldcause the earliest heavy element enrichment. Here we present our twonew findings. 1) The peculiar abundance pattern among iron peakelements (Cr, Mn, Co, and Fe) in the very metal poor can be reproducedwith SN II nucleosynthesis yields without invoking the contributionfrom Pop III objects. 2) The observed chemical evolution in the solarneighborhood is well reproduced with the metallicity dependentoccurrence of SNe Ia, where SNe Ia do not occur if the iron abundanceof the progenitors is as low as [Fe/H] ≲ -1. We make theprediction that the cosmic SN Ia rate drops at z ∼ 1-2 because ofthe low-iron abundance, which can be observed with the Next GenerationSpace Telescope.

Notes: Abstract We report lysinuric protein intolerance (LPI) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in a 14-year-old girl. The co-existence of LPI and SLE in the same patient has been reported before and suggests that SLE is directly connected with LPI. Conclusion Possibly in LPI the metabolic derangement can cause immunological abnormalities. Therefore, when multisystem involvement is observed in LPI patients, SLE should be considered as a rare complication.

Notes: Summary.  The oral efficacy of chicken egg yolk immunoglobulins (yIg) specific for bovine rotavirus (BRV) serotypes G6 and G10 in protecting neonatal calves was examined in a herd of cattle under field conditions. In one of the three trials, yIg-treated calves tested under high relative humidity (RH) showed a significantly increased mean body weight (P〈0.05) and a decrease in number of calves shedding high titer of BRV (G6) in stool compared to control calves (P〈0.01), suggesting that our yIg product was effective in a field condition with an epidemic outbreak of BRV diarrhea.

Notes: Abstract The Richardson number dependence of vertical eddy diffusion coefficients in the western Equatorial Pacific Ocean was examined on the basis of a Microstructure Profiler (MSP) observations during the cruise of Natsushima (JAPACS-89). The Richardson numberR i was estimated by using the mean shear of velocity profile measured by an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) with the vertical interval of 15 meters within one or two hours of the each MSP cast. The raw data plot of the vertical eddy diffusion coefficientK p shows a large scatter with increasing tendency belowR i =0.5. The relation between the mean vertical eddy diffusion coefficientK p and the Richardson numberR i , averaged over every 0.025 in theR i , supports the model of Pacanowski and Philander (1981) in the range ofR i 〉0.5, but coincides with the result of Peterset al. (1988) in the range ofR i 〈0.5.
