    Prevalent Beliefs and Attitude toward Vitiligo among Public in Al Baha Province, Southern Saudi Arabia

    Abstract: Introduction: Vitiligo is an apparent skin condition that has a psychological impact on the affected individuals and their families. Its prevalence is estimated to be about (0.5-2%) globally. Misunderstandings, and negative attitudes toward vitiligo patients are the most important factors affecting the quality of life of vitiligo patients. Objective: The objective of this study was to identify the common misconceptions and attitudes about the nature, causes and prognosis of vitiligo in Al-Baha region, Saudi Arabia. Methods: A cross sectional study collected data from the general population in the public malls in Al-Baha region, Saudi Arabia. We used a questionnaire which was developed by the authors, the questionnaire included questions regarding vitiligo cause, nature, prognosis and the attitude toward vitiligo. Results: A total of (453) responses were analysed, of which (53%) were females, and (90.9%) were Saudis. The participants’ ages ranged from (16 -64) with a mean of (28.3). The majority of our sample had a high level of education; university (65.1%), High school (26%) and less than high school (6%). Our population believed that gecko and its saliva were the commonest cause (38.1%). Most of the respondents (44.4%) thought that the condition is exaggerated by stress and anxiety. Regarding attitude; (31.5%) are unwilling to marry a vitiligo patient. Conclusion: The results of the present study show that the misconceptions and attitudes toward vitiligo are prevalent. Health awareness campaigns should be implanted to educate the people and improve the quality of life of the affected individuals.

    Abstract: A number of advancements in the therapy of perforated duodenal ulcers have been made in the recent two decades, suggesting that the disease's morbidity and mortality may be reduced. Recently, there has been a return to a more conservative first approach, with reports of either delayed resection or two-stage surgery, in which a non-radical resection is performed first, followed by lymphadenectomy at a later date. Furthermore, because gastric lymphoma can be cured without resection, many upper GI surgeons recommend performing a biopsy and repair at the index operation and then considering how best to continue if adenocarcinoma is discovered later.

    Abstract: The degenerative disease of the intervertebral disc and back pain are chronic conditions that are caused by several factors and represent an important cause of morbidity and mortality in everyday clinical practice. The study aims to summarize the updated evidence regards epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestation, diagnosis, and management of degenerative disc diseases. The incidence of low back pain, which is the main symptom in Intervertebral Disc (IVD) disease, varies widely among different reports. It is the fifth most common cause for the visit to the doctor and affects 7.6 to 37% of patients. IVD degeneration is attributed to a complex interplay between environmental and genetic factors. DDD is a process that includes a progressive decrease in disk nutrient supply and changes in extracellular matrix (ECM) composition, which weakens the tissue strength and alters the cell metabolism.Degenerative lumb disc disease patients typically present with mechanical lower back pain, which is worse on forward flexion and when carrying heavy load. The pain is relieved with rest. Diagnosis of DDD is done by various methods, computed tomography (CT) scan, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and provocative discography. These methods should be used in conjunction with the patient history, physical examination and specific biomarker to monitor the response to treatment. There are three major lines of management of DDD; Treatment Options for Relief of Pain in Conservative Therapy.Treatment with Aims of Restoration, Repair, and Regeneration of Intervertebral Disc Diseases: Molecular Therapy. Reconstructive Strategies: Percutaneous Intervertebral Disc Techniques.
