    Abstract: This study aims to evaluate the long-term outcome and prognostic factors of a “mother-child” coaxial dual-catheter technique for percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) in the treatment of central vein stenosis (CVS) or central vein occlusion (CVO). Materials and Methods: During September 2017 to August 2020, totally, 76 hemodialysis patients with symptomatic CVS or CVO were treated with PTA using the mother-child technique. The success rate, complications, and follow-up information were collected. Cox proportional hazard analysis was used to explore the predicting factors of primary patency. Primary patency rates of different subgroups were generated with the Kaplan-Meier analysis and compared using the log-rank (Mantel-Cox) test. Results: There were 31 CVS patients and 45 CVO patients who presented with 114 PTAs. The initial procedure success rate was 98.25%. By the end of the follow-up, 57 patients (75%) had maintained functioning fistula after initial or repeated PTAs. The primary patency rates were 88.75% at 3 months, 73.36% at 6 months, 55.83% at 12 months, and 50.75% at 18 months. The secondary patency rates were 97.14% at 6 months, 87.66% at 12 months, and 82.18% at 24 months. The predictors for primary patency were history diabetes mellitus (hazard ratio [HR] = 3.1, 95% confidence interval [CI] : 1.31-7.30, P = .010), abnormal white blood cell count (HR = 1.44, 95% CI: 1.18-1.75, P 〈 .001), lesion at subclavian-innominate vein (HR=2.75, 95% CI: 1.34-5.63, P = .006), and occlusion (HR=0.33, 95% CI: 0.14-0.76, P = .010). The primary patency was significantly lower in the subclavian-innominate vein subgroup, with a median primary patency of 4.5 (3-12.75) months, than in the nonsubclavian-innominate vein subgroup (8.5 [5-13] months; P = .005). The median duration of each PTA was 8 months for the first PTA, 7.5 months for the second PTA, and 5 months for the third PTA. There was no significant difference in the patency duration of repeated PTAs and the primary PTA ( P = .389). Conclusions: The mother-child coaxial dual-catheter technique has a good success rate and acceptable primary patency in the treatment of hemodialysis patients with CVS or CVO. Repeated PTA is as effective as the primary PTA. Clinical Impact This is the follow up report on the “Mother-Child” coaxial dual-catheter technique for percutaneous transluminal angioplasty of central vein stenosis or occlusion in hemodialysis patients since we first presented it in 2019. In this paper, we can see that the long-term patency rate of this technique for central venous disease is satisfactory, and repeated use of this technique does not affect the patency time. Compared with other literature reports, the surgical success rate of this technique is significantly improved. Therefore, this technique is worth popularizing in the treatment of central venous disease.

    Abstract: Arteriovenous (AV) grafts are an alternative vascular access for chronic hemodialysis. AV graft failure is often due to stenosis of the feeding artery, graft, or draining vein. We report four cases of AV graft dysfunction and failure rarely caused by graft delamination and dissection. Two males and two females aged 47–67 years had been on chronic hemodialysis. Ultrasound examination detected graft delamination and dissection between 1 and 33 months after Acuseal AV graft implantation. Two cases were successfully treated with stenting and partial graft replacement, respectively. False lumen volume reduction by fluid withdrawal failed to salvage the delaminated graft in one of the patients. The delamination and dissection of another case spontaneously resolved 5 months later. Graft delamination and dissection should be considered as a possible cause for AV graft dysfunction and failure. Stenting and graft replacement may be recommended to treat AV graft dissection and delamination.

    Abstract: This work provides a comprehensive review of previous studies concerning the static thermal behaviors of various types of bridges, including beam bridges, arch bridges, cable-stayed, and suspension bridges. Given that thermal behaviors are closely associated with the temperature distribution of bridges, the basis of the heat transfer analysis is briefly introduced first. The studies of the temperature distribution and the temperature actions of each type of bridge are then reviewed from the perspective of theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, experimental tests, and field monitoring. Finally, some existing problems are discussed, and future research topics are recommended.

    Abstract: There is no standard management of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients with suboptimal response to nucleoside/nucleotide analogues (NAs). This study aimed to evaluate two different NA combination therapies in patients with suboptimal response to adefovir (ADV). Methods In this study, 72 CHB patients with suboptimal response to ADV were assessed, with 37 patients receiving lamivudine plus ADV (group A) and 35 patients receiving telbivudine plus ADV (group B). Results Baseline characteristics between two groups were similar. At month 12, rates of biochemical response (BR) and virological response (VR) were similar between groups A and B (17/19 versus 18/20 for BR, [ P=0.269] and 30/37 versus 31/35 for VR [ P=0.377] ), and cumulative rates of serological response were greater in group B than in group A (10/26 versus 2/28 in hepatitis B e antigen [HBeAg] loss [ P=0.006] and 7/26 versus 1/28 in HBeAg/ hepatitis B e antibody seroconversion [ P=0.022]). After 12-month treatment, 8.1% (3/37) of patients in group A and 5.7% (2/35) of patients in group B had VR; among patients in group A, two had rtM204V/I and rtL180M and one had rtN236T, whereas the two patients in group B had rtM204I+rtL180M. Conclusions Both combination therapies led to a significant decrease in HBV DNA. HBeAg serological outcomes were higher with telbivudine plus ADV combination therapy.

    Abstract: Humans are averse to both having less (i.e., disadvantageous inequity aversion [IA]) and having more than others (i.e., advantageous IA). However, the social-affective traits that drive individual differences in IA are not well understood. Here, by combining a modified dictator game and a computational model, we found in a sample of incarcerated adolescents ( N = 67) that callous-unemotional traits were specifically associated with low advantageous but not disadvantageous IA. We replicated and extended the finding in a large-scale university student sample ( N = 2,250) by adopting a dimensional approach to social-affective trait measures. We showed that advantageous IA was strongly and negatively associated with a trait dimension characterized by callousness and lack of social emotions (e.g., guilt and compassion). A supportive family environment negatively correlated with this trait dimension and positively with advantageous IA. These results identify a core set of social-affective dimensions specifically associated with advantageous IA.

    Abstract: In this work, the morphology and crystallization behavior of polyamide 6 (PA6)/maleic anhydride-grafted-ethylene–propylene–diene rubber (MAH- g-EPDM)/high-density polyethylene (HDPE) blends with different ratios of the components were studied. In order to study the influence of both thermodynamics and kinetic factors, the interfacial tension between various polymer pairs was taken into account and two processing methods were used. Contact angle measurements and rheological relaxation time simulation were used to calculate the interfacial tension. It was found that because of the reaction between PA6 and MAH- g-EPDM, the value of interfacial tension of PA6/MAH- g-EPDM binary blends calculated by the contact angle measurement was not correct and the real value α = 0.97 mN m −1 was calculated by rheological relaxation time simulation. The two processing methods (one-step and two-step processing methods) led to different crystallization behaviors with different morphologies of the blends.

    Abstract: Biocompatible and antimicrobial wound dressings are important biomaterials for tissue adhesion and healing. Hydrogels derived from natural polyamino acids are ideal wound dressing because of their good water solubility, biocompatibility, and biodegradability. In this study, we introduce poly(amino acid)–based hydrogels as a new type of wound dressing for wound healing. The composite hydrogels were derived from water-soluble ε-polylysine and γ-poly(glutamic acid) cross-linked by 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-carbodiimide and N-hydroxy-succinimide. The gelation is attributed to the reaction between the amino groups of ε-polylysine and carboxyl groups of γ-poly(glutamic acid). Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was used to characterize the composite hydrogels. The effect of the ratio of ε-polylysine and γ-poly(glutamic acid) on the gelation time, surface morphology, equilibrium swelling, elastic moduli, adhesive strength, and in vitro degradation of composite hydrogels was examined. The hydrogels showed excellent antimicrobial efficacy against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Indirect cytotoxicity assessment indicated that the composite hydrogels were nontoxic to the L929 cell. The potential of the composite hydrogel as wound dressing was demonstrated by applying it in the skin incision. Results demonstrated that the composite hydrogel showed superior healing effects compared with suture, fibrin glue, and compont skin adhesive, while eliciting less inflammatory response. In conclusion, antimicrobial and biocompatible ε-polylysine–γ-poly(glutamic acid) composite may have great application for wound healing.

    Abstract: To investigate the clinical outcomes of indwelling needle-delivered local urokinase thrombolysis, a cost-saving thrombolytic approach, in the treatment of thrombosed arteriovenous grafts (AVGs). Methods: The clinical data of 71 patients with a first episode of thrombosed AVG were analyzed. Among them, 49 patients underwent urokinase thrombolysis and percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA), and 22 patients underwent thrombectomy and PTA. The operation success rate, operation time, perioperative and postoperative complications, primary patency, and secondary patency were compared. Results: Clinical success was achieved in all 71 PTAs. After thrombolysis, 29 patients achieved complete lysis, and 20 patients achieved partial lysis. All patients achieved thrombus clearance after PTA. The operating room usage time was 37.48 ± 5.33 min for the complete thrombolysis group and 41.70 ± 6.16 min for the incomplete thrombolysis group, and these values were not significantly different (p = 0.853). The operating room usage time of the thrombectomy group was 124.73 ± 5.08 min, which was significantly longer than that of the other groups (p  〈  0.001). The log-rank test indicated no significant difference in the 90-, 180-, and 360-day primary patency and corresponding secondary patency (all p  〉  0.05). The Cox regression showed that no significant difference was noted in the changing rate of primary or secondary patency among the groups (all p  〉  0.05). No major complications occurred in any of the groups, and the difference in the complication incidence was not significant (p = 0.336). Conclusions: Indwelling needle-delivered urokinase thrombolysis is an acceptable method for the treatment of thrombosed AVGs. Compared with thrombectomy and PTA, thrombolysis and PTA can significantly shorten the time to use the operating room without reducing primary and secondary patency or increasing complications.

    Abstract: In recent years, there has been an increase in the scientific production of youth soccer. However, a panoramic map of research on this subject does not exist. The aim of this study was to identify global research trends in youth soccer over time, among the main levels of analysis: sources, authors, documents, and keywords. The bibliometric software Biblioshiny was used to analyze 2606 articles in Web of Science (WoS) published between 2012 and 2021. The main conclusion is that US and UK scholars dominate the research; the topics of research are changing with the real needs, and research on the topic of performance has been of interest to scholars; talent identification and development, performance, injury prevention, and concussion are the studies of interest to scholars in this area. This finding, which offers a global picture of youth soccer research over time, can help future research in this or similar domains.

    Abstract: In this study, novel bio-inspired in situ hydrogels as tissue adhesives and hemostatic materials were designed and prepared based on ɛ-polylysine-grafted poly(ethylene glycol) and tyramine via enzymatic cross-linking. The enzymatic cross-linked method enabled fast gelation within seconds, which facilitated its therapeutic applications. By changing the cross-linking conditions, the storage modulus of the hydrogels could be tunable and the mechanical strength influenced the tissue adhesiveness of the hydrogels. Besides, the hydrogels showed fine network structures with appropriate pore sizes, which were thought to be a contributing factor to the strong adhesiveness. Benefiting from the strong mechanical properties and fine network structures, the ɛ-polylysine-grafted poly(ethylene glycol) and tyramine hydrogels exhibited superior wound-healing and hemostatic ability compared to conventional and commercially available medical materials. Moreover, indirect cytotoxicity assessment indicated that the ɛ-polylysine-grafted poly(ethylene glycol) and tyramine hydrogels were nontoxic to the L929 cell. These results demonstrated that the enzymatic cross-linked in situ ɛ-polylysine hydrogels hold high potential for tissue sealants and hemostatic materials.
