Abstract: Grading system for resected invasive pulmonary adenocarcinoma proposed by the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) was validated as a strong prognostic indicator. Nonetheless, the efficacy of utilizing such grading system in prognostic assessment of patients receiving neoadjuvant therapy still needs elucidating. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted including patients with resected adenocarcinoma following neoadjuvant chemotherapy or targeted therapy from August 2012 to December 2020 in Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital. All the surgical specimens were re-evaluated and graded. The prognostic value of the grading system was further validated. Results: Ultimately, a total of 198 patients were enrolled in this study, and subdivided into three cohorts according to the grading system. There were 13 (6.6%), 37 (18.7%), and 148 (74.7%) patients belonging to Grades 1, 2, and 3, respectively. IASLC grading system demonstrated significant power in prognosis differentiation of the entire cohort [recurrence-free survival (RFS), p  〈  0.001; overall survival (OS), p  〈  0.001] and the neoadjuvant chemotherapy and targeted therapy cohorts separately, and was further verified as a significant prognostic indicator for RFS and OS in multivariable Cox analysis. Since the majority of the patients (84.8%) did not achieve major pathologic response (MPR), representing a wide spectrum of survival, the prognostic value of grading system in non-MPR cohort was further evaluated. Similar results were also obtained that IASLC grading system was assessed significant in univariable analysis of RFS ( p  〈  0.001) and univariable analysis of OS ( p = 0.001). Conclusions: The prognostic efficacy of pathological evaluation of the residual proportion of pulmonary adenocarcinoma post-neoadjuvant therapy using IASLC grading system was preliminarily verified. Such grading system might assist prognostic evaluation of neoadjuvant cohort other than traditional pathological parameters.

Abstract: Although continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) is common, unplanned interruptions often limit its usefulness. Unplanned interruption refers to the forced interruption of blood purification treatment, the failure to complete blood purification treatment goals or the failure to meet blood purification schedule times. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of haematocrit and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) on the incidence of unplanned interruptions in critical patients with CRRT. Methods: A systematic review and a meta-analysis were performed by searching the databases of China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang, VIP, China Biomedical Literature, Cochrane Library, PubMed, Web of Science and Embase from their inception to 31st March 2022 for all studies with a comparator or independent variable relating to the unplanned interruption of CRRT. Results: Nine studies involving 1165 participants were included. Haematocrit and APTT were independent risk factors for the unplanned interruption of CRRT. The higher the haematocrit level, the greater the risk of unplanned CRRT interruptions (relative risk ratio [RR] = 1.04, 95% confidence interval [CI] : 1.02, 1.07, Z = 4.27, p  〈  0.001). The prolongation of APPT reduced the risk of unplanned CRRT interruptions (RR = 0.94, 95% CI: 0.92, 0.96, Z = 6.10, p  〈  0.001). Conclusion: Haematocrit and APTT are the influencing factors on the incidence of unplanned interruptions in critical patients undergoing CRRT.

Abstract: Vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) is used to determine enantiomeric purity (EP) of three sample groups, and the results are compared with those obtained from optical rotation. In most typical cases EP determination from optical rotation is more accurate than that from VCD. However, in cases where either optical rotation is very small or different chiral samples are present as a mixture, EP determination from VCD provides definite advantages with reasonable accuracy.

Abstract: The factors affecting pollutant diffusion in street canyons during the cold winter of Xi’an City, China, were analysed by measuring the near-surface atmospheric parameters at the height of 1.5 m from ground surface and the aspect ratios (ARs) of 40 street canyons. SPSS software was adopted to obtain eight multiple regression models, including the city street locations, street orientations and street widths. A back propagation neural network was employed to obtain the weight of the factors and their sensitivities. The near-surface atmospheric parameters, leaf area index (LAI) and street canyon AR in the pedestrian area could have an effect on the pollution in street canyons. CO diffusion is strongly influenced by near-surface atmospheric parameters, such as wind velocity, air temperature and relative humidity (RH), together with the CO emission source intensity, street canyon AR and LAI. Their weights were 0.360, 0.275, 0.137, 0.113, 0.068 and 0.047. In particular, near-surface atmospheric parameters were shown to be affected by the street orientation in the city.

Abstract: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) targeting programmed cell death 1, programmed cell death ligand 1, and cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated antigen-4 have shown significantly durable clinical benefits and tolerable toxicities and have improved the survival of patients with various types of cancer. Since 2018, the National Medical Products Administration of China has approved 17 ICIs as the standard treatment for certain advanced or metastatic solid tumors. As ICIs represent a broad-spectrum antitumor strategy, the populations eligible for cancer immunotherapy are rapidly expanding. However, the clinical applications of ICIs in cancer patient populations with special issues, a term that refers to complex subgroups of patients with comorbidities, special clinical conditions, or concomitant medications who are routinely excluded from prospective clinical trials of ICIs or are underrepresented in these trials, represent a great real-world challenge. Although the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO) has provided recommendations for screening before the use of ICIs in special populations, the recommendations for full-course management remain insufficient. The CSCO Expert Committee on Immunotherapy organized leading medical oncology and multidisciplinary experts to develop a consensus that will serve as an important reference for clinicians to guide the proper application of ICIs in special patient populations. This article is a translation of a study first published in Chinese in The Chinese Clinical Oncology (ISSN 1009-0460, CN 32-1577/R) in May 2022 (27(5):442–454). The publisher of the original paper has provided written confirmation of permission to publish this translation in Therapeutic Advances in Medical Oncology.

Abstract: A novel benzoxazine, containing silicon (Si) in the main chain and bonded to two benzene ring, was synthesized from aniline, bis( p-hydroxyphenyl)dimethylsilane, and paraformaldehyde. The structure was characterized by proton nuclear magnetic resonance and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra. The curing behavior of the benzoxazine was evaluated by differential scanning calorimeter and in situ FTIR. The thermal stability of the resulting polybenzoxazine was studied by thermogravimetric analysis under nitrogen and air atmospheres. The results indicated that the Si-containing polybenzoxazine possessed significantly higher initial degradation temperature and char yield than conventional bisphenol A/aniline-based polybenzoxazine.

Abstract: Sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone)/poly(styrene-divinylbenzene) (SPEEK/PSt-DVB) semi-interpenetrating polymer networks (semi-IPNs) were prepared to be used as proton exchange membranes (PEMs) for direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs) applications. The morphologies of the membranes were investigated using field emission scanning electron microscopy. The ion-exchange capacity, water uptake, proton conductivity, methanol permeability, mechanical properties, and the thermal stability were characterized for each of the various semi-IPN membranes and evaluated for DMFC suitability. The semi-IPN SPEEK/PSt-DVB structure provided better dimensional stability, thermal stability, and mechanical integrity than the pristine SPEEK membrane. The methanol diffusion coefficient of the SPEEK/PSt-DVB-30% was reduced approximately by 70% when compared to the value of Nafion-117 at 30°C. The maximum selectivity of the semi-IPN membranes was 9.27 × 10 4 S s cm −3 for the SPEEK/PSt-DVB-20%, which was nearly 2.1 times higher than that of the Nafion-117 membrane. The improved properties of the SPEEK/PSt-DVB membranes were attributed to the homogeneous semi-IPN structure and to the hydrophobic molecular chains of PSt-DVB.

Abstract: A silicon-containing benzoxazine (PDpsp-a) was synthesized from bis( p-hydroxyphenyl)diphenylsilane, aniline, and paraformaldehyde. The structure of the monomer was supported by 1 H-NMR and FTIR spectra. The curing behavior of benzoxazine was evaluated by differential scanning calorimetry and in-situ FTIR spectra. The thermal properties were studied by MDSC, TGA, and Py-GC/MS. The results indicated that the characteristic peak of oxazine ring began to disappear when the temperature was heated to 180°C and completely disappeared at 260°C. The polybenzoxazine (PDpsp-a) possessed a high glass transition temperatures (174°C) and had good thermal stability (T 10 = 420°C). In the pyrolysates of polybenzoxazine (PDpsp-a), no silicon-containing compounds, no phenol species, and more benzene were detected, we speculated that the Ar-Si bond would fracture with the increase of temperature. The benzene was volatilized from the system as a pyrolysis product and the silicon could react with oxygen to form siloxanes remained in the carbon residue in the form of siloxane compounds. The formed silica layer could endow the silicon-containing polybenzoxazine high thermal degradation stability and high char yield.

Abstract: Residual stress is an important factor affecting structural deformation, which seriously reduces the dimensional accuracy, fatigue strength, and safety of structural parts. In this study, a coupled thermal-mechanical finite element model for wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) was established based on ABAQUS and Fortran subroutine and the accuracy of the simulation results was verified by experiments. The effects of hammering and hammering temperature on the residual stress in low alloy high strength (HSLA) steel built by the WAAM process were analyzed. The results showed that the effect of reducing the residual stress increased and then decreased with the hammer temperature in the hammer temperature range of this study. The optimal hammer temperature was found to be 800 °C. The maximum longitudinal, transverse, and Z-direction residual stress of the deposited wall after 800 °C interlayer hammering decreased by 20.7, 273.9, and 116.9 MPa, respectively.
