Abstract: The method of reverberation-ray matrix proposed by Pao et al. is applied to analyze the transient response of a multi-span pipe conveying fluid. The pipe under transverse vibration is considered as Timoshenko beam conveying axial flow. In the process of analysis, fast Fourier transform is used to convert the partial differential equation into ordinary differential equation. The support points of the pipe are chosen as the elements’ nodes. The transient wave motions at each node are divided into incident and reflected wave. By virtue of continuity and balance condition, the scattering relation is established between the above wave motions. The transient response is obtained by inverse fast Fourier transform. In the examples, the natural frequencies are calculated for single- and multi-span pipe conveying fluid with different fluid velocity, and great agreement is shown with the published literature. And then the transient responses, such as deformation, velocity, shear force and bending moment are obtained for a two-span pipe conveying fluid under different fluid velocity.

Abstract: The dynamic reliability of the pipe conveying fluid was analyzed by a refined response surface method (RSM) in this study. In the refined RSM, a new response surface expression was proposed based on functional variables with the physical characteristics of basic random variables. The sampling points were located on Gauss Hermite integration points along the coordinate axes of standard normal random variables. The response surface was constituted via an iterative strategy, in which the information of the sampling points could be utilized richly. On the other hand, Hamilton’s principle for open systems was applied to formulate the motion equations of the pipe conveying non-uniform axial fluid. The proposed RSM was used to analyze the dynamic reliability and sensitivity of the pipe conveying non-uniform axial fluid. As shown in the numerical results, the refined response surface method leads to the better approximation of the nonlinear limit state function, higher precision and better stability of the failure probability estimation, especially for the dynamic reliability analysis of the pipe conveying fluid.

Abstract: In this article, carbon nanotubes were dispersed in epoxy resin matrix by directly mixing and using acetone as a solvent, respectively. Rheological properties of carbon nanotubes/epoxy suspension and neat epoxy were investigated. Composites containing carbon nanotubes of random, aligned, and staggered orientations were, respectively, prepared. Meanwhile, an electric field was applied to induce alignment of carbon nanotubes in epoxy resin. Test results revealed that dispersion method and other process parameters had significant impacts on mechanical properties of the composites. In comparison with directly mixing, using a solvent was considered to contribute to improvement of 10% on flexural strength and decrescence of more than 70% on the error bar of test data. Similarly, improved mechanical properties and enhanced reliability of measurment data were achieved by extending the vacuum time for the purpose of removing air bubbles completely. Scanning electron microscope images indicated that carbon nanotube aggregates and gas holes in composites could be reduced by dispersing carbon nanotubes via acetone and extending vacuum time to 2 h.

Abstract: In this article, HNO 3 (4 mol/L) was employed to open the ends of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and a 1:3 mixture of concentrated HNO 3 and H 2 SO 4 was employed to obtain acid-treated CNTs. Acetone was used as the solvent to introduce CNTs into epoxy resins. The bending strength of CNTs/epoxy resins composites increased with the increase of the CNTs content at first, and decreased after the CNTs content reached a certain value. The enhancement effect of acid-treated CNTs was better than that of end-opened CNTs, and not end-opened CNTs performed the worst. This was perhaps because the matrix could restrain the CNTs more effectively at each end of the CNTs if the CNTs were end-opened. Besides, the bending strength of the composites with CNTs with smaller diameters was higher than that of the composites with CNTs with bigger diameters.

Abstract: To assess the association between the 2184A/G polymorphism in the advanced glycosylation end product-specific receptor ( AGER) gene and the susceptibility to diabetic retinopathy (DR) in Han Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods This cross-sectional genotyping study included patients with T2DM with and without DR. Genotype and allele frequencies of the 2184A/G polymorphism were detected using polymerase chain reaction–restriction fragment-length polymorphism analysis. Results This study included 943 patients with T2DM (285 with DR [DR group] and 658 without DR [NDR group] ). There were no significant differences in age, sex, body mass index, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, diastolic blood pressure, glycosylated haemoglobin, fasting blood glucose, postprandial 2-hour blood glucose, and triglycerides between the two groups. The duration of T2DM and systolic blood pressure were significantly increased in the DR group compared with the NDR group. No significant differences were found in allele (A and G) and genotype (AA, AG and GG) frequencies of the 2184A/G polymorphism between the two groups. Conclusion The 2184A/G polymorphism in the AGER gene is not associated with DR in Han Chinese patients with T2DM.

Abstract: The present study conducted a meta-analysis to forecast the risk factors associated with level-VII lymph node metastases in case of thyroid neoplasms, intending to assist in determining the requirement for level-VII lymph node lymphadenectomy during the surgery. Methods Electronic databases, PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, CNKI, Wanfang Data, VIP, and CBM electronic databases were searched for studies focused on level-VII lymph node metastases in thyroid neoplasms, published up to April 2021. Stata 13.1 software was used for analyses. Results The literature search identified a total of 997 studies. Among these, 8 studies, involving 1813 patients, were included in the present case. All these studies were case-control studies. Results for meta‐analysis showed that male (OR = 1.340, 95% CI: 1.018-1.764, P = .037), age 〈 45 years (OR = 4.178, 95% CI: 1.601–10.908, P = .003), tumor size ≥ 2.0 cm (OR = 1.960, 95% CI: 1.079-3.562, P = .027), extrathyroidal extension (OR = 2.037, 95% CI: 1.578-2.630, P 〈 .001), distant metastasis (OR = 2.775, 95% CI: 2.005-3.840, P 〈 .001), central lymph node metastasis (OR = 3.500, 95% CI: 1.127-10.874, P = .03), contralateral cervicolateral metastasis (OR = 2.119, 95% CI: 1.514-2.965, P 〈 .001), and bilateral nodal metastasis (OR = 4.651, 95% CI: 2.697-8.020, P 〈 .001) acted as risk factors for level-VII lymph node metastases. In addition to this, sensitivity analyses and bias test showed that the results of meta‐analysis were reliable and stable and involved no publication bias. Conclusion In the present study, male gender, age 〈 45 years, tumor size ≥ 2.0 cm, extrathyroidal extension, distant metastasis, central lymph node metastasis, contralateral cervicolateral metastasis, and bilateral nodal metastasis were identified as risk factors for level-VII lymph node metastases in case of thyroid neoplasms.

Abstract: Dynamic and quasi-static tensile tests of 5083P-O aluminium alloy were carried out using RPL100 electronic creep/fatigue testing machine and the split Hopkinson tension bar, respectively. The dynamic constitutive relation of the material at high strain rates was studied, and the constitutive model in accordance with Cowper–Symonds form was established. At the same time, a method to describe the constitutive relation of material using the strain rate interpolation method which is included in LS-DYNA software was proposed. The advantages and accuracy of this method were verified by comparing the results of the finite element simulation with the fitting results of the Cowper-Symonds model. The influence of material strain rate effect on squeezing force, energy absorption and deformation mode of the squeezing energy-absorbing structure based on the constitutive models of 5083P-O were studied by means of finite element simulation. The results show that when the strain rate of the structure deformation is low, the material strain rate strengthening effect has little influence on the structure. However, with the increase of the strain rate, the strengthening effect of the material will improve the squeezing force and the energy absorption of the structure, and will also influence the deformation mode, that is, the decrease of the deformation with high strain rates while the increase of the deformation with low strain rates.

Abstract: In this work, the aminolysis depolymerization of poly(ethylene terephthalate) PET was carried out with ethanolamine and several acetates as catalysts. The main product, bis(2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalamide (BHETA), was identified from FTIR and 1 H NMR. It was found that PET depolymerization is favoured by increasing temperature, time and catalysts. Results shown that under present conditions of aminolysis, the conversion of PET was 100% and high yield of BHETA. Moreover, aminolysis products have the potential to undergo further reactions to yield secondary value-added product, such as unsaturated polyesters, polyurethanes, epoxy resin hardeners and non-ionic polymer surfactants.

Abstract: The pancreatic β cells can synthesize dopamine by taking L-dihydroxyphenylalanine, but whether pancreatic acinar cells synthesize dopamine has not been confirmed. By means of immunofluorescence, the tyrosine hydroxylase -immunoreactivity and aromatic amino acid decarboxylase (AADC)- immunoreactivity were respectively observed in pancreatic acinar cells and islet β cells. Treatment with L-dihydroxyphenylalanine, not tyrosine, caused the production of dopamine in the incubation of INS-1 cells (rat islet β cell line) and primary isolated islets, which was blocked by AADC inhibitor NSD-1015. However, only L-dihydroxyphenylalanine, but not dopamine, was detected when AR42J cells (rat pancreatic acinar cell line) were treated with tyrosine, which was blocked by tyrosine hydroxylase inhibitor AMPT. Dopamine was detected in the coculture of INS-1 cells with AR42J cells after treatment with tyrosine. In an in vivo study, pancreatic juice contained high levels of L-dihydroxyphenylalanine and dopamine. Both L-dihydroxyphenylalanine and dopamine accompanied with pancreatic enzymes and insulin in the pancreatic juice were all significantly increased after intraperitoneal injection of bethanechol chloride and their increases were all blocked by atropine. Inhibiting TH with AMPT blocked bethanechol chloride-induced increases in L-dihydroxyphenylalanine and dopamine, while inhibiting AADC with NSD-1015 only blocked the dopamine increase. Bilateral subdiaphragmatic vagotomy of rats leads to significant decreases of L-dihydroxyphenylalanine and dopamine in pancreatic juice. These results suggested that pancreatic acinar cells could utilize tyrosine to synthesize L-dihydroxyphenylalanine, not dopamine. Islet β cells only used L-dihydroxyphenylalanine, not tyrosine, to synthesize dopamine. Both L-dihydroxyphenylalanine and dopamine were respectively released into the pancreatic duct, which was regulated by the vagal cholinergic pathway. The present study provides important evidences for the source of L-dihydroxyphenylalanine and dopamine in the pancreas.

Abstract: Sepsis is the major culprit of death among critically ill patients who are hospitalized in intensive care units (ICUs). Although sepsis-related mortality is steadily declining year-by-year due to the continuous understanding of the pathophysiological mechanism on sepsis and improvement of the bundle treatment, sepsis-associated hospitalization is rising worldwide. Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC) guidelines are continuously updating, while their content is extremely complex and comprehensive for a precisely implementation in clinical practice. As a consequence, a standardized step-by-step approach for the diagnosis and treatment of sepsis is particularly important. In the present study, we proposed a standardized step-by-step approach for the diagnosis and treatment of sepsis using our daily clinical experience and the latest researches, which is close to clinical practice and is easy to implement. The proposed approach may assist clinicians to more effectively diagnose and treat septic patients and avoid the emergence of adverse clinical outcomes.
