    Abstract: Endometriosis is a common, estrogen-dependent, benign disease that affects women of reproductive age. Endometriosis frequently presents with pain and can result in infertility. The symptoms of the disease have a negative impact on physical and mental aspects of life, contribute to reduction of social contacts and lead to a significant reduction in quality of life. In this study, we investigated quality of life of patients with endometriosis. Moreover, we examined whether surgical management could be beneficial for those patients in terms of improving quality of life. Material and methods In this prospective study, we included patients undergoing gynecological operations due to endometriosis-associated problems between 2008 and 2014. All patients were assessed preoperatively and 30 months postoperatively. The survey form chosen to achieve the aims of the study was the Greek version of SF-36. Results The results showed that both physical and mental health were highly compromised in patients affected by endometriosis, and surgical management significantly improved patients’ quality of life, as all of the SF-36 scores were higher postoperatively (p 〈 0.05). Discussion Endometriosis represents an important medical problem in women, with a high impact on their quality of life, and surgical management can reverse the impact of endometriosis on patients’ health and restore their quality of life.

    Abstract: To examine the impact of prenatal and postnatal social support on the association between fetal sex and postpartum depression (PPD). Method: We conducted a prospective cohort study in Changsha, China, between February and September 2007. We first compared the sociodemographic and obstetric characteristics, and the prenatal and postnatal social support between women who gave birth to a female infant and those who gave birth to a male infant. We then examined the association between fetal sex and PPD by following logistic regression models: fetal sex as the independent variable; with adjustment for sociodemographic and obstetric factors; with adjustment for sociodemographic, obstetric factors, and prenatal social support; and with adjustment for sociodemographic, obstetric factors, and postnatal social support. Results: Postnatal social support scores were much lower in women who gave birth to a female infant than in those who gave birth to a male infant. The odds ratio of PPD for women who gave birth to a female infant, as compared with those who gave birth to a male infant, was 3.67 (95% CI 2.31 to 5.84). The increased risk of PPD for women who gave birth to a female infant remained after adjustment for sociodemographic and obstetric factors and prenatal social support, but disappeared after adjustment for postnatal social support score. Conclusion: We conclude that increased risk of PPD in Chinese women who give birth to a female infant is caused by lack of social support after childbirth.

    Abstract: To estimate the occurrence and to assess the determinants of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in flood victims. Method: We carried out a retrospective study to examine the occurrence and the determinants of PTSD in victims of flood in 1998 and 1999 in Hunan, China. We used multistage sampling to select the subjects from the flood areas, and we ascertained PTSD according to DSM-IV criteria. Data were collected in face-to-face interviews carried out by experienced research assistants using a preconstructed questionnaire. We used a multiple logistic regression model to analyze the data. Results: A total of 33 340 subjects (86.0% of the selected subjects, aged 7 years or over) in the study villages were interviewed. Among them, 2875 (8.6%) had symptoms that met the diagnostic criteria for PTSD. Significant risk factors for PTSD included female sex (odds ratio [OR] 1.12; 95% confidence interval [CI] , 1.04 to 1.21), older age (age 18 to 59 years OR 2.28; 95%CI, 2.02 to 2.57, and age 〉 60 years OR 2.42; 95%CI, 2.05 to 2.85), flood type (collapsed embankment OR 1.84; 95%CI, 1.64 to 2.05, and flash flood OR 3.12; 95%CI, 2.76 to 3.52), and flood severity (intermediate OR 4.05; 95%CI, 3.55 to 4.62, and severe OR 2.98; 95%CI, 2.60 to 3.41). Conclusions: PTSD is a common mental disorder in flood victims, which implies the need for improved health services, especially mental health services, for this population.

    Abstract: High-quality synthesized evidence of sweet taste analgesia in neonates exists. However, Chinese databases have never been included in previous systematic reviews of sweet solutions for procedural pain. Objective To conduct a systematic review of Chinese literature evaluating analgesic effects of sweet solutions for neonates. Data sources: Wang Fang, China National Knowledge Infrastructure and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database. Data extraction and analysis: Two authors screened studies for inclusion and conducted risk of bias ratings and data extraction. A third author resolved any conflicts. Meta-analyses were performed using RevMan 5.2 software, on mean differences in pain outcomes using random effects models. Results Thirty-one trials (4999 neonates) were included; 26 trials used glucose, 4 used sucrose, and 1 trial evaluated both solutions. Sweet solutions reduced standardized mean pain scores (n = 21 studies; −1.68, 95% confidence interval −2.08, −1.27) and cry duration (n = 6 studies; −25.60, 95% confidence interval −36.47, −14.72 s) but not heart rate change (n = 7 studies; −17.64, 95% confidence interval −52.71, 17.43). No included studies cited the previously published systematic reviews of sweet solutions. Conclusions This systematic review of Chinese databases showed the same results as previously published systematic reviews. No trials included in this review cited the English systematic reviews, highlighting a parallel research agenda.

    Abstract: A clustering method that combined density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise with mathematical morphology clustering is proposed to adapt to the features of driver’s fixation such as points’ dispersion and fixation regions’ irregularity and solve the problems of conventional density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise method’s large influence by parameters and mathematical morphology clustering’s needs of much manual intervention. Drivers’ fixation data were collected by Smart Eye Pro 5.7 eye tracking system, and the data were processed and clustered using conventional clustering methods and density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise–mathematical morphology clustering method. The results show that the method proposed in this article takes into account the advantages of density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise and mathematical morphology clustering to cluster irregular regions and makes up for defects of conventional clustering methods. It is verified that density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise–mathematical morphology clustering method is better than the conventional hierarchical clustering method and density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise method in driver’s fixation points clustering and can improve the quality of driver’s fixation region division.

    Abstract: In order to study the influence of driving experience and traffic flow conditions on driver's visual search mode, an experiment platform was built. Driver's eye movement data was collected through a large number of real vehicle tests. By analyzing the visual features variations of different experience drivers at peak and peaceful peak period, we found out the change laws of different experience drivers in their driving process. To study different drivers' fixation areas in different traffic flow conditions, the clustering method of k-means was selected to cluster plane coordinates of drivers' fixation point with driver's interesting regions in the process of driving, and driver's vision plane was divided into eight regions finally. The results of the study showed that the clustering method of k-means could divide driver's vision plane more accurate, and driving experience and traffic flow conditions could influence driver's visual search mode obviously.

    Abstract: Children and adolescents are among the most vulnerable road users, and road traffic accidents (RTAs) can lead to not only physical injuries but also adverse psychological outcomes, particularly posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, estimates of the prevalence of PTSD among children and adolescents following RTAs varied considerably across studies. Therefore, this study aimed to estimate the pooled prevalence of PTSD among this population. Methods: A systematic search for literature was performed in the electronic databases of PubMed, Web of Science, PsycINFO, and Embase. Heterogeneity was assessed using the Cochran’s chi-square test and quantified by the I 2 value. Meta-regression analyses were carried out to identify the effects of some potential moderators on the overall heterogeneity. Subgroup analyses were performed to estimate the pooled prevalence of PTSD according to some sample characteristics. Results: Eleven eligible studies with a total of 1532 children and adolescents who were involved in RTAs were included. The overall heterogeneity ( I 2 = 89.7, P 〈 0.001) was high across the eligible studies, and the pooled prevalence of PTSD was 19.95% (95% confidence interval, 13.63% to 27.09%) by a random-effects model. No significant moderators of the overall heterogeneity were identified using meta-regression analyses. Subgroup analyses showed that the pooled prevalence of PTSD differed significantly according to the study location and gender ( P 〈 0.05). Conclusions: One-fifth of children and adolescents developed PTSD in the aftermath of RTAs, indicating the need for regular assessment of PTSD and timely and effective psychological interventions among this population. Furthermore, more population-based studies with a large sample size are warranted. The protocol was registered in the PROSPERO database (No. CRD42018087941).

    Abstract: The production control of failure-prone manufacturing systems is notoriously difficult because such systems are uncertain and non-linear. Since the introduction of hedging-point policies, many researches have been done in this field. However, there are few literatures that consider the production control problem of tree-structured manufacturing systems. In this article, a hedging-point production control policy is proposed for a multi-machine, tree-structured failure-prone manufacturing system. To obtain the optimal hedging points, an iterative learning algorithm is developed by considering the system’s characteristics. A simulation method is embedded in the iterative learning algorithm to calculate the system cost. To estimate the performance of the proposed algorithm, comparisons are made between our algorithm, genetic algorithm and particle swarm optimization algorithm. The experimental results show that our algorithm works better than others in reducing the computation time and minimizing the production cost.

    Abstract: The aim of this study was to investigate whether remote ischemic preconditioning (RIPC) can promote neurological function recovery after middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) in rats and its possible mechanism. A total of 32 Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into RIPC group (n = 16) and MCAO group (n = 16). In the RIPC group, 1 h before induction of MCAO, the rats received bilateral femoral artery ischemic preconditioning (10 min/time), followed by 10 min of relaxation, and a total of three cycles were carried out. Then, the MCAO-2h model was established. In the MCAO group, the MCAO-2h model was established at 1 h after the separation of bilateral femoral arteries. The modified neurological severity score (mNSS) was assessed. At postmodeling day 7, triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) staining and immunohistochemistry were conducted, and neurological function recovery, infarct size, and the expression levels of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), synaptophysin (SYN), and neurite outgrowth inhibitor A (Nogo-A) were observed. At postmodeling day 7, the difference in mNSS was statistically significant ( P  〈  0.05). Infarct size was significantly smaller in the RIPC group than in the MCAO group ( P  〈  0.05). The number of GFAP + cells was significantly lesser in the RIPC group than in the MCAO group ( P  〈  0.05). The difference in thickness of the glial scar was not statistically significant ( P = 0.091). At postmodeling day 7, the expression level of SYN integrated optical density (IOD) was significantly higher in the RIPC group than in the MCAO group ( P  〈  0.05). The number of Nogo-A + cells was significantly lesser in the RIPC group than in the MCAO group ( P  〈  0.05). At day 7 after MCAO, RIPC can promote neurological function recovery in rats and reduce infarct size. The mechanism may be that after 7 days, RIPC reduces GFAP expression, inhibits the trend of glial scar formation and Nogo-A expression, and increases SYN expression.
