Abstract: This study examined the relationship between acceptance of disability, perceived stigma of students on a college campus and adaptation to college for students with disabilities. One hundred forty-five surveys were collected from student participants via the disability support services offices at sixteen colleges or universities in the northeast and mid-west United States. The results of a hierarchical multiple regression analysis revealed two statistically significant relationships, students with a higher level of acceptance of disability were more adapted to college, and higher GPA was associated with less adaptation to college. The exploratory test of mediation revealed that the relationship between acceptance of disability and adaptation to college was significantly mediated by perception of stigma on a college campus. The implications for higher education support services and recommendations for future research are discussed.

Abstract: Assertive community treatment (ACT) provides comprehensive clinical services, including vocational rehabilitation, to individuals with psychiatric disorders for which traditional community mental health services are insufficient. ACT is an evidence-based intervention yielding many positive outcomes, yet service recipients continue to struggle with workforce involvement. The purpose of this study is to determine whether internalized stigma, psychiatric hospitalization, and psychiatric symptoms are associated with work-related self-efficacy among ACT service recipients. A total of 72 individuals with severe mental illness were recruited from ACT programs in three counties in a Mid-Atlantic state. Multiple linear regression was conducted to examine the relationship between work-related self-efficacy and the independent variables of internalized stigma, psychiatric hospitalization, and psychiatric symptoms. Higher internalized stigma scores were negatively associated with work-related self-efficacy (β = −.31, t = −2.32, p 〈 .05), while psychiatric hospitalization in the past year was positively associated with work-related self-efficacy (β = .22−.27, t = −2.13, p 〈 .05). Findings from this study suggests internalized stigma to be an important recovery variable requiring the attention of ACT team members when preparing individuals for work, while countering the assumption that recent hospitalization is a barrier to work-related self-efficacy.

Abstract: Two new dihydrostilbenoid glycosides, named 5-(2-phenylethyl)-3-hydroxyphenol-1- O-β-D-glucopyranoside (1) and 6-(2-phenylethyl)-2,4-dihydroxy benzoic acid-2- O-β-D-glucopyranoside (2), together with two known compounds, were isolated from the leaves of Litsea coreana Levl.. Their structures were established on the basis of NMR spectroscopic, MS and chemical data. Biological tests revealed that 1-3 exhibited moderate anti-inflammatory activity through an inhibitory effect on TNF-α, IL-1 production from RAW264.7 cell line activated with lipopolysaccharides (LPS).

Abstract: Vibration characteristic is an important factor in evaluating operation stability of centrifugal pump. The vibration of main shaft was measured using a laser vibrometer, internal flow field was simulated via the shear stress transport turbulence model, and distribution law of vibration and pressure fluctuation in the impeller were analysed to explore the induction factor of vibration and the inherent relationship with pressure fluctuation in a semi-open centrifugal pump under low flow rate condition. Results of the numerical simulation are consistent with the experimental data. In addition to rotation frequency caused by impeller rotation, vibration frequency also includes characteristic frequency with high amplitude induced by unstable flow. The complex vortex in the impeller is composed of tip leakage vortex (TLV), reverse flow vortex, passage vortex and tip separation vortex. The primary tip leakage vortex (PTLV) formed by the streamline spills from 0 to 0.2λ where λ is the dimensionless distance from leading edge to trailing edge collides with tip leakage flow, the leading edge overflow and reverse flow vortex at the frequency of 1.6 f n ( f n is the rotating frequency) and 2.2 f n appear, respectively. The tip separation vortex formed in the tip clearance induced a frequency of 1.2 f n . The frequency of unstable flow phenomenon was consistent with the vibration frequency of main shaft, which induced the vibration of centrifugal pump.

Abstract: Work-related soft skills such as cultural awareness and effective communication, along with cognitive factors, influence success in school and in the workplace. This pilot study evaluated the feasibility of a small group intervention using the direct skills teaching (DST) approach to teach basic conversational skills in a work setting. A four-session group intervention using the “Conversing With Others” curriculum based on the DST approach was delivered to 146 participants in 22 groups by graduate counseling students. Participants reported greater confidence with engaging a coworker in conversation as well as high satisfaction with the group intervention in general. This pilot study provided data on the feasibility of this intervention and supported its use as a pedagogical tool for counselors-in-training.

Abstract: This study examined the feasibility of group interventions using the Direct Skills Teaching (DST) approach to teach interview preparedness skills (“Presenting Qualifications”) and basic work-related conversational skills (“Conversing with Others”) to individuals with psychiatric disabilities. This quasi-experimental pilot study included 87 participants in Study 1 and 55 participants in Study 2, all with various psychiatric diagnoses. Each group intervention consisted of four sessions delivered by graduate counseling students. Participants reported increased confidence in presenting qualifications at interviews in Study 1, and in conversational skills at work in Study 2. Participants in both studies reported high levels of satisfaction with the respective group intervention. The results of the study supported the feasibility of DST group interventions designed to teach work-related skills to individuals with psychiatric disabilities.

Abstract: Strontium has been widely used in bone repair materials due to its roles in promoting osteoclast apoptosis and enhancing osteoblast proliferation. In this work, synthesis and the effects of Sr 2+ doping α-tricalcium phosphate at low-temperature was studied. The setting time and the mechanical properties of α-tricalcium phosphate were controlled by varying the content of Sr 2+ . The synthesized compounds were evaluated by XRD, SEM, XPS, setting time, compressive strength, SBF immersion, and colorimetric CCK-8 assay. The results showed that Sr 2+ can improve the compressive strength and cell activity of calcium phosphate bone cement.

Abstract: Objective: To investigate the impact of developmental stages on triterpene saponin content and expression of key genes in their biosynthetic pathway in Platycodon grandiflorus seedlings. Method: The total saponins were extracted using ultrasonic extraction with methanol as the solvent. The quantification of Platycodin D in 6-month-old and 1-year-old Platycodon grandiflorus seedlings was performed using ultra-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry, while the expression of key genes in the biosynthesis of saponins was determined by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Result: The content of Platycodin D and total saponins in 1-year-old Platycodon grandiflorus roots was significantly higher than that in of 6-month-old. The expression of key genes in saponin biosynthesis, such as PGMVK , PGMVD , PGDXR , PGMCT , PGMDS , PGHDS , PGHDR , PGFPS, and PGSS, was higher in 1-year-old roots compared to 6-month-old seedlings. Conclusion: The medicinal value of 1-year-old Platycodon grandiflorus root was higher than that of 6-month-old seedlings. The difference in medicinal value can be attributed to the variation in the expression of key genes involved in the saponin biosynthesis pathway.

Abstract: Although many institutions of higher education have become committed to diversity and have made efforts to recruit faculty of color, the counseling profession has had a long history of underrepresentation of students and faculty of color. This study investigated the relationships between demographic characteristics, perceptions of the academic climate, and the employment continuation plans of tenured and tenure-track faculty of color in accredited, rehabilitation counselor education (RCE) programs. Furthermore, this study aimed to identify which factors best predict the employment continuation plans for this population. Participants were administered the Faculty Retention Questionnaire (FRQ) to examine these relationships. The sample consisted of 63 tenure-track and tenured faculty of color employed by accredited RCE programs. A univariate general linear model found that the demographic characteristics (race, ethnicity, gender, country of origin, and tenure status) did not predict the employment continuation plans of tenure-track and tenured faculty of color in accredited RCE programs. Multiple linear regression analysis was utilized to determine if the regression scores for the perception of academic climate components (role as researcher, tenure/promotion opportunities, workplace conditions, social climate, faculty/student relationships, role clarity, inter-role conflict, and person/role conflict) predicted 28.5% of the variance in the employment continuation plans of faculty of color in RCE programs. Among these, inter-role conflict was the only statistically significant predictor. Findings add to the literature pertaining to the retention of faculty of color in counselor education and suggest retention strategies supportive of faculty of color.
