Abstract: Two carbon/glass hybrid composites with different reinforced structures were designed and their mechanical and electromagnetic absorbing properties (EMAPs) were investigated in this paper. It was found that the tensile, bending, and double-notch shear strength of the three-dimensional (3D) quasi-isotropic (QI)-braided composite were 4.50%, 9.64%, and 14.29% higher than those of the QI-laminated composite, respectively. This was because Z-binder yarns in the 3D QI-braided composite can lock all yarn sets together to bear external stress and inhibit crack propagation in interlamination. The EMAPs of the 3D QI-braided composites were larger than that of the QI-laminated composite in the entire Ku band. This was because the Z-directional glass fibers in the 3D QI-braided composite were beneficial for electromagnetic transmission. The uniform arrangement of five sets of yarns (+45°, –45°, 90°, 0°, and Z-yarns) resulted in the 3D QI-braided composites having better QI-EMAPs and QI mechanical properties in plane and outstanding interlayer performance than the traditional carbon fiber laminated composite.

Abstract: There are no systematic reviews yet that evaluated the effects of PE/IA in patients with optic neuritis (ON) in demyelinating diseases. A meta-analysis of available study is needed to further explore the value of plasma exchange (PE) or immunoadsorption (IA) in treating ON in demyelinating diseases. Methods All relevant articles published on PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), VIP Database, Wanfang, Sinomed and ophthalmology professional websites were searched. Study characteristics, demographic characteristics, clinical features and outcome measures were extracted. Response rate, adverse events (AE) rate, serious adverse event (SAE) rate, the log of the minimum angle of resolution (logMAR), visual outcome scale (VOS) and expanded disability status scales (EDSS) were evaluated using a random-effects model. Results 35 studies were included between 1985 and 2020, containing 1191 patients. The response rates of PE and IA in acute attack of ON were 68% and 82% respectively. LogMAR (−0.60 to − 1.42) and VOS (−1.10 to −1.82) had been significantly improved from within 1 month to more than 1 month after PE treatment. Besides, we found that logMAR improved 1.78, 0.95 and 0.38, respectively ,when the time from symptom onset to the first PE/IA was less than 21 days, 21–28 days, and more than 28 days. The pooled mean difference of EDSS was −1.14.Adverse effects rate in patients with PE or IA were 0.20 and 0.06, respectively. Conclusion The meta-analysis provided evidence that PE/IA treatment was an effective and safe intervention, and it is recommended that early initiation of PE/IA treatment is critical.

Abstract: Although terror management theory has been widely studied, little research has empirically examined whether travel functions as a terror management mechanism. Thus, the present research investigated the influence of mortality anxiety on heritage tourism preference and heritage protection intention through two studies. Study 1 shows that as individuals’ general mortality anxiety increases, their tendency to search for meaning in life increases, which fosters their heritage travel preference and heritage protection intention. Study 2, using an experimental method, reveals a causal relationship where incidentally increasing mortality anxiety increases heritage travel preference and heritage protection intention. In addition, this causal relationship is prominent for people with higher legacy beliefs. These findings shed light on the critical roles of the search for meaning in life and legacy belief in the links between mortality anxiety and heritage-related behavior.

Abstract: Taking a self-regulatory perspective, we examined the within-person relationships between time spent in job search and search outcomes (i.e., the number of job interviews/offers received), focusing especially on the moderating roles of metacognitive activities and perceived job search progress. Data collection was conducted with 12 semiweekly surveys among a sample of 132 job seekers from a university in Southern China. Our results showed that time spent in job search does not necessarily lead to more interviews, and metacognitive activities moderated this relationship. Specifically, the positive effect of time spent in job search on the number of job interviews was stronger among job seekers with low levels rather than high levels of metacognitive activities. Nevertheless, after including perceived job search progress, the moderating role of metacognitive activities was stronger among seekers with low rather than high-perceived job search progress. We found that when individuals engaged in low levels of metacognitive activities and perceived low levels of job progress, they relied on time spent in job search to obtain job interviews and offers. The theoretical and practical implications of these findings are discussed.

Abstract: A set of radar absorbent carbon/quartz fiber hybrid core-spun yarns (9B, 12B17A, and 12B25A) with different braided structure (round and flat) and braiding angle (17° and 25°) were designed, and then the mechanical and electromagnetic properties of the corresponding 2.5D core-spun yarn/epoxy composites (9BC, 12B17AC, and 12B25AC) were investigated in this study. The results showed that the composite made by round core-spun yarns with large braiding angle (12B25AC) had the highest mechanical properties and the best radar absorbing properties in the three types of 2.5D core-spun yarn/epoxy composites. The effective absorption bandwidth (reflection loss  〈  −10 dB), maximum reflection loss value, tensile strength, and bending strength of the 12B25AC was 3.9 GHz (14.1–18 GHz), −17.2 dB at 16.7 GHz, 428.43 MPa, and 545.10 MPa, respectively. Therefore, the 2.5D reinforced composite by the round core-spun yarns with large braiding angle offers a unique architectural method to attain both outstanding radar absorption and mechanical performances.

Abstract: The main cause of severe chronic venous insufficiency is deep venous incompetence. Deep venous reconstructive surgeries are reserved for cases that do not show a good response to conservative therapies. Method We present the case of a 68-year-old man presenting with swelling, pain, and pigmentation in his left lower limb for 14 years and ulcers for 10 years. Descending venography identified a Kistner’s grade IV reflux in the deep vein of the left lower limb. Internal valvuloplasty was performed following Kistner’s method. Meanwhile, external wrapping with a 1-cm-wide polyester-urethane vascular patch was performed to strengthen the vein wall in the venospasm condition. Results Symptoms were immediately relieved postoperatively. Refractory ulcers healed five months after the procedure. At the six-month follow-up, color duplex ultrasound of the deep vein of the left lower limb showed no reflux in the proximal segment of the femoral vein. Conclusion Internal valvuloplasty combined with sleeve wrapping is feasible in the treatment of severe deep venous incompetence with good short-term results.

Abstract: The adverse events (AEs) of rituximab (RTX) for neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) are incompletely understood. Aim: To collate information on the reported the AEs of RTX in NMOSD and assess the quality of evidence. Methods: PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Wanfang Data, CBM, CNKI, VIP, clinicaltrials.gov, and so on were searched for studies with control groups as well as for case series that had assessed the RTX-associated AEs. The incidence of AEs and the comparison of AE risks among different therapies were pooled. The GRADE was developed for evidence quality. Results: A total of 3566 records were identified. Finally, 36 studies (4 RCTs, 6 crochet studies, 2 NRCTs, and 24 case series), including 1542 patients (1299 females and 139 males), were included for final analyses. Rates of patients with any AEs, any serious AEs (SAEs), infusion-related AEs, any infection, respiratory infection, urinary infection, and death were 28.57%, 5.66%, 27.01%, 17.36%, 4.76%, 4.76%, and 0.17%, respectively. The results from subgroup analysis showed that AE rates were most likely not associated with covariates such as duration of illness and study designs. Very low-quality evidence suggested that the risk ratios (RR) of any AEs (0.84, 95% CI = 00.42–1.69, p = 0.62) and any infections (1.24 95% CI = 0.18–8.61) of RTX were similar to that of azathioprine, and the RR of any AEs of RXT was akin to that of mycophenolate mofetil (0.66, 95% CI = 0.32–1.35 p = 0.26). Evidence of low to high quality showed the lower RR of RTX in other AEs, but not in infusion-related AEs. Strategies to handle AEs focused on symptomatic treatments. Conclusions: RTX is mostly safer than other immunosuppressants in NMOSD: the incidence of RTX-associated AEs was not high, and when present, the AEs were usually mild or moderate and could be well controlled. Given its efficacy and safety, RTX could be recommended as a first-line treatment for NMOSD.

Abstract: To explore the value of diffusion-weighted imaging for early response detection of locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma with concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Methods: Fifty-five (42 males, 13 females) patients with locally advanced esophageal cancer who were undergoing chemoradiotherapy were recruited for this study. Diffusion-weighted imaging was performed in all patients before therapy, at the first weekend, the second weekend, and the end of chemoradiotherapy. The rate of change in apparent diffusion coefficient value and the maximum diameter between pretherapy and posttherapy were calculated. Results: Fifty-five patients with locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma were classified as responders (40 cases) and nonresponders (15 cases). Before chemoradiotherapy, the responders group had a significantly lower apparent diffusion coefficient values than the nonresponders group ( t = −4.815, P = .000). At the 3 time points after chemoradiotherapy (first weekend, second weekend, and the end of chemoradiotherapy), there was no statistically significant difference in apparent diffusion coefficient values between responders and nonresponders ( P 〉 .05). The responders group had a significantly higher rate of change in apparent diffusion coefficient value than the nonresponders group at each time point ( P 〈 .05). At the first weekend of chemoradiotherapy, the rate of change in the maximum diameter was not significantly different in the 2 groups ( t = 0.928, P = .357). There was a negative correlation between the tumor apparent diffusion coefficient value of pretherapy and the reduction ratio of tumor maximum diameter at the end of chemoradiotherapy ( r = −0.592, P = .000). Conclusions: The change rate of apparent diffusion coefficient value by the end of the first week after beginning chemoradiotherapy may be a sensitive indicator to detect the early response to locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

Abstract: In the environment of cloud computing, real-time mass data about high-speed rail which is based on the intense monitoring of large scale perceived equipment provides strong support for the safety and maintenance of high-speed rail. In this paper, we focus on the Top- k algorithm of continuous distribution based on Multisource distributed data stream for high-speed rail monitoring. Specifically, we formalized Top- k monitoring model of high-speed rail and proposed DTMR that is the Top- k monitoring algorithm with random, continuous, or strictly monotone aggregation functions. The DTMR was proved to be valid by lots of experiments.
