    Abstract: To differentiate gastric leiomyomas (GLs) and gastric stromal tumors (GSTs) based on preoperative enhanced computed tomography characteristics. Methods Twenty-six pathologically confirmed GLs were propensity score-matched to 26 GSTs in a 1:1 ratio based on sex, age, tumor site, and tumor size. Tumor shape and contour, mucosal ulceration, growth pattern, enhancement pattern and degree, longest diameter, and longest diameter/vertical diameter ratio were compared between the groups. Hemorrhage, calcification, peripheral invasion, and distant metastasis were also included in the regression analysis for differentiation of the two tumors. Results Mucosal ulceration was significantly more frequent in GSTs than GLs. The enhancement degree of GSTs was significantly higher than that of GLs in the arterial and portal venous phases. Using enhancement degrees of 18 HU and 23 HU in the arterial phase and venous phase as cutoff values, respectively, we found that an enhancement degree of 〈 18 HU in the arterial phase was an independent influential factor for diagnosis of GLs. No significant differences were found in other morphological characteristics. GLs did not metastasize or invade adjacent tissues. Conclusion A low enhancement degree in GLs is the most valuable quantitative feature for differentiating these two similar tumors.

    Abstract: Thrombosis is a common complication in patients with cancer. Whether thromboprophylaxis could benefit patients with cancer is unclear. The aim of this systematic review was to determine the efficacy and safety of thromboprophylaxis in patients with cancer undergoing surgery or chemotherapy. Methods: We searched the Cochrane Library, EMBASE, MEDLINE, EBSCOhost, and Web of Science for studies published before May 2018 to investigate whether thromboprophylaxis measures were more effective than a placebo in patients with cancer. Results: In total, 33 trials with 11,942 patients with cancer were identified. In patients with cancer undergoing surgery, the administration of thromboprophylaxis was associated with decreasing trends in venous thromboembolism (VTE) [relative risk (RR) 0.51, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.32–0.81] and DVT (RR 0.53, 95% CI 0.33–0.87). In patients with cancer undergoing chemotherapy, the administration of thromboprophylaxis reduced the incidences of VTE, DVT, and pulmonary embolism compared with no thromboprophylaxis (RR 0.54, 95% CI 0.40–0.73; RR 0.47, 95% CI 0.31–0.73; RR 0.51, 95% CI 0.32–0.81, respectively). The pooled results regarding major bleeding showed no significant difference between prophylaxis and no prophylaxis in either the surgical or the chemotherapy groups (RR 2.35, 95% CI 0.74–7.52, p = 0.1482, I 2  = 0%; RR 1.30, 95% CI 0.93–1.83, p = 0.1274, I 2  = 0%, respectively). Conclusion: Thromboprophylaxis did not increase major bleeding events or the incidence of thrombocytopenia. All-cause mortality was not significantly different between those who received thromboprophylaxis and those who did not. This meta-analysis provides evidence that thromboprophylaxis can reduce the number of VTE and DVT events, with no apparent increase in the incidence of major bleeding in patients with cancer.

    Abstract: This article presents a new approach for obtaining unique dimensioning for each part and building a full-dimension model of assembly dimensions by describing the formative paths of functional dimensions in an assembly. According to the structure and the functional dimensions of an assembly, as well as the principles that ‘the path should be the shortest’, ‘high precision should be given priority’ and ‘one surface can appear only once in the path graph’, the shortest path graph of the functional dimensions can be established first, ensuring that every functional dimension has minimum accumulative errors. The revised path graph is obtained by revising the shortest path graph according to structural characteristics, inspection and dimensioning regulation of parts. In this way, unique dimensioning is achieved for each part, and a full correlative dimension model can be established. A gearbox assembly and a ball screw assembly are used to verify the proposed method, but this article discusses only the assembly that is generally located in a certain direction. Over-location, planar or spatial assemblies require further research.

    Abstract: Mice homozygous for a dominant-negative allele of the Clock gene ( Clock Δ 19/Δ 19 ) have slightly but significantly decreased male fertility. The molecular mechanism for this reduction in fertility is unknown. In the present study, we used a small hairpin RNA (shRNA) strategy to specifically knock down the Clock gene expression in the testes of male mice and determined its effect on male fertility. Clock knockdown led to smaller litter size, a lower in vitro fertility rate, lower blastula formation rate, and lower acrosin activity of the knockdown sperm. Locomotor activity analysis of the Clock knockdown mice revealed that Clock knockdown in testes did not alter their circadian rhythm. Taken together, these results provide the first evidence that Clock gene expression in round spermatids is essential for maintaining male reproductivity and suggest that acrosin may be a novel regulatory target of the Clock gene that would regulate the fertilization and early embryonic development to blastula. These findings may provide new clues for development of novel male contraceptive strategies.

    Abstract: Abdominal penetrating aortic ulcer (aPAU) is defined as an ulceration of the aortic intima and media lamina, even with rupture of the internal elastic lamina. Recently, there have been an increasing number of publications on endovascular treatment for aPAU. This review aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of endovascular treatment and provide clinicians with the latest evidence-based medical data. Methods 3 academic databases (Embase, PubMed, and Scopus) were systematically searched for literature reporting on aPAU from 1986 (the earliest appearance of the concept of aPAU) to September 1, 2021, and related data were collected and evaluated. A fixed/random effects model was used to construct the forest plots. Funnel plots and linear regression tests were used to assess the publication bias. Results 6 articles including 121 patients were included in the analysis. The average age was 71.4 years, with 72.7% of males and 85.6% with hypertension. Saccular aneurysms (SA) were the most prevalent complication (35.5%). Endovascular treatment had a perioperative mortality rate of .24% (95% CI, .00-2.70). The technical success rate was 99.15% (95% CI, 96.49-100). The type-II endoleak rate was 5.69% (95% CI, .00-12.13). The 1-year survival rate was 95.69% (95% CI, 90.49-100). The revascularization rate was 7.20% (95% CI, .07-14.32). Endovascular treatments for aPAU would lead to a high rate of technical success, few complications, and satisfactory 1-year survival. Conclusions aPAU are a common disease that mainly affects elderly males with hypertension and hyperlipidemia. Endovascular treatment is required when an ulcer progresses rapidly or manifests symptoms. Endovascular treatment is associated with high technical success, low complication, and satisfactory 1-year survival. Further investigation into the long-term results of endovascular treatment is necessary.

    Abstract: The covalently closed circular RNA has recently been proposed as a pivotal player in tumorigenesis. In the current study, we found that circ-CDYL was notably elevated in multiple myeloma tissue and plasma samples and had good diagnostic and prognostic efficacy. Functional assays showed that circ-CDYL enhanced the viability and DNA synthesis of multiple myeloma cells and inhibited apoptosis. Mechanically, cytoplasmic circ-CDYL was co-localized with miR-1180, and circ-CDYL absorbed miR-1180 to upregulate yes-associated protein (YAP), thereby facilitating multiple myeloma progression. Importantly, we further confirmed the existence of this circ-CDYL/miR-1180/YAP regulatory axis in vivo by using the xenograft tumor model. Taken together, our data demonstrate that circ-CDYL is novel promoter of multiple myeloma, and targeting circ-CDYL and its associated network implicates the therapeutic possibility for multiple myeloma patients. Impact statement Multiple myeloma (MM) is an extremely complex and heterogeneous disease, and its pathogenesis is poorly understood. Here, we described an important MM-related circular RNA (circRNA), circ-CDYL. It was remarkably increased in both MM cells and plasma. Depletion of circ-CDYL evidently stunted MM growth. Circ-CDYL could absorb miR-1180 and alleviated the repression of miR-1180 on YAP, leading to increased YAP expression, ultimately triggering MM uncontrolled growth. Therefore, our findings advance the understanding of MM pathogenesis, and also raise the possibility of considering circ-CDYL as a potential therapeutic intervention for MM.

    Abstract: This study was performed to assess the prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver (NAFL) in patients with symptomatic congestive heart failure (CHF) and compare the clinical features with those of patients without NAFL. Methods In total, 102 patients with CHF were divided into NAFL and non-NAFL groups according to their hepatic ultrasonography findings. All patients underwent transthoracic echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance examination. Follow-up was performed for major cardiovascular events (MACE) and readmission due to heart failure at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after the index hospitalization. Results NAFL was detected in 37 of 102 patients (36.27%). Compared with the non-NAFL group, patients with NAFL were younger, had a higher body mass index and left ventricular (LV) mass index, and had more severe fibrosis. MACE and readmission occurred in 15 patients in the NAFL group and 29 patients in the non-NAFL group, without a significant difference. Linear regression analysis revealed that after adjusting for confounders, NAFL was independently associated with the LV fibrosis size and the ratio of the LV fibrosis size to the LV mass index. Conclusions NAFL is present in more than one-third of patients with CHF and is associated with the severity of LV fibrosis.

    Abstract: This paper employs the simplified quadrupedal passive dynamic model to analyze the underlying property of the transverse gallop. First, the simplified sagittal quadrupedal planar model of the transverse gallop, the trot, and searching methods for achieving the periodic motion are introduced. Next, we explore the dynamic performance of the transverse galloping pattern on the simplified quadrupedal passive dynamic model at different forward speeds and different stiffnesses of legs in a range of initial angular velocities at which the periodic motion is achieved, and there exists a particular property that is defined as the pitch angular velocity dynamics (PAVD) property. If the forward speed and the stiffness of legs are adequate in the transverse galloping pattern, the PAVD emerges and the forces (e.g. peak ground reaction force and average vertical force) that the model undergoes during locomotion are sharply reduced. The Froude numbers of the minimum forward speed where PAVD holds at a fixed stiffness of legs for different samples are virtually the same. Moreover, a comparison between the trot and the transverse gallop illustrates that a trot is more favorable in the range of forward speeds where the PAVD property is not achieved, while a transverse gallop is better after the property emerges.

    Abstract: Transplantation of cryopreserved ovarian tissue is a novel technique to restore endocrine function and fertility especially for cancer patients. However, the main obstacle of the technique is massive follicle loss as a result of ischemia in the process of transplantation. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been acknowledged to play an important role in supporting angiogenesis and stabilizing long-lasting blood vessel networks through release of angiogenic factors and differentiation into pericytes and endothelial cells. This study is aimed to investigate whether MSCs could be applied to overcome the above obstacle to support the ovarian tissue survival in the transplantation. Here we show that human MSCs could enhance the expression level of VEGF, FGF2, and especially the level of angiogenin, significantly stimulate neovascularization, and increase blood perfusion of the grafts in the cryopreserved ovarian tissue transplantation. Further studies reveal that MSCs could notably reduce the apoptotic rates of primordial follicles and decrease follicle loss in the grafted ovarian tissues. In summary, our findings demonstrate a previously unrecognized function of MSCs in improving human ovarian tissue transplantation and provide a useful strategy to optimize fertility preservation and restoration.

    Abstract: Countries all over the world are looking for fuel to replace fossil energy due to environmental concerns and a scarcity of fossil fuels. Oil shale (OS) and rice husk (RH) are both viable fuels, although they both have issues like high ash content and poor calorific value. OS and RH were used as feedstock for high-quality fuel in this study, which uses a hydrothermal technique to provide a novel way to utilize OS and rice. At different hydrothermal temperatures (150, 200 and 250 °C), including combustion and pyrolysis processes, the thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) was used to analyse thermal transformation characteristics of co-hydrothermal carbonization (co-HTC) of OS and RH, as well as the synergistic effects. Results showed that the co-HTC pretreatment had a significant effect on the thermal transformation behaviour of OS and RH. On the one hand, the co-HTC has higher volatile content than its calculated value. On the other hand, a synergistic effect was found in combustion processes, and this effect was the most obvious when the hydrothermal temperature was around 200 °C, and the characteristic peak of functional groups vibration was strong. Therefore, the co-HTC was considered suitable for combustion. The combination of co-HTC modification with subsequent thermochemical processes has positive implications for the energy production and utilization of organic waste.
