Abstract: Summary: The objective of this study was to determine the seroprevalence of herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2), and to evaluate the relationship between HSV-2 infection and sociodemographic factors and the sexual practices of female sex workers (FSWs) in Kaiyuan city, Yunnan Province, China. This cross-sectional study involved 737 FSWs and was carried out from March to May 2006 with confidential interviews and laboratory tests for HSV-2 and other sexually transmitted infections (STI). HSV-2 was the most common STI (68%), followed by Chlamydia trachomatis (26%), Trichomonas vaginalis (11%), Neisseria gonorrhoeae (8%) and syphilis (7%). Prevalence of HIV-1 was 10.3%. Adjusted odds ratios of HSV-2 seroprevalence were 2.6 (95% CI [confidence interval]: 1.30-5.38) for HIV-1 infection, 2.0 (95% CI: 1.33-3.16) for vaginal douching, 2.0 (95% CI: 0.45-0.86) for condom breaking or falling off during sexual intercourse with the client in the previous week, 1.8 (95% CI: 1.07-3.18) for ≥5 years of commercial sex work, 1.6 (95% CI: 1.08-2.33) for ≥5 clients in the previous week, 0.6 (95% CI: 0.45-0.86) for ≥9 years of education. This study identifies a very high prevalence of HSV-2 infections among FSWs in Yunnan Province, with only a few who reported a prior history of genital herpes. HSV-2 serological screening and suppressive therapy should be considered for study populations. Education on the importance of diagnosis, treatment and prevention may help control the spread of HSV-2 infection.

Abstract: The aim of this paper was to review cohort studies that analyze changes in the quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS. We searched the PubMed and EmBase databases from inception to December 2012 for primary cohort studies of the quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS after combination antiretroviral therapy (cART). Two independent reviewers screened and selected published studies of quality of life that had been followed up for more than 12 weeks after the beginning of cART. Data from the papers were analyzed to identify common characteristics of the effects of cART on the quality of life of HIV/AIDS patients. Eight cohort studies were found: only four were assessed as high quality and four were assessed as moderate quality. None of the studies described patient selection. Six studies followed the patients for one year or more, and the other studies for less than 6 months. Seven studies reported quality of life had been improved after initiation of cART, and one study reported no change. Previous research suggested that cART improved the quality of life of AIDS patients for a limited time, so further research for longer periods is needed to confirm this outcome.

Abstract: To compare medium-term clinical and radiological outcomes of primary unilateral uncemented (UN) or cemented (CE) femoral component total hip arthroplasty (THA) in elderly patients with osteoporosis. Methods Consecutive patients with osteoporosis who underwent primary unilateral UN or CE THAs at our institution from 2006 to 2013 were retrospectively reviewed. All consecutive procedures were managed by high-volume surgeons, using UN or CE THA approaches. Follow-up assessments occurred at 1, 3, 6, 9, and 12 months postoperatively, and yearly thereafter. Patient-related functional outcomes were assessed using the Harris Hip Score (HHS). Primary and secondary endpoints were early revision ( 〈 5 years) and functional outcome. Results In total, 496 primary unilateral THAs (CE, n = 184; UN, n = 182) were assessed with a median follow-up period of 75 months (range, 65–86 months). From 3 months after surgery to the final follow-up, HHS was consistently superior in the CE group. Respective prosthetic loosening rates in the UN and CE groups were 26.4% and 16.8% at a minimum of 5 years. There was a significant difference in rate of early revision (7.6% CE vs. 14.8% UN). Conclusion Compared with UN THA, CE THA exhibits a superior outcome in elderly patients with primary osteoporosis.

Abstract: The preforms of three-dimensional (3D) braided composites have a monolithic structure that is braided with high-performance fibers using 3D braiding technology. Compared with traditional laminate composites, braided composites are widely favored because of their superior overall performance and mechanical properties. The capability of fabricating various yarn structures with a flexible 3D rotary braiding method, however, has not been systematically investigated, especially for a variable-section braiding structure. In accordance with the principles of braiding technology and the characteristics of a 3D braiding structure, in this study, we examined a braiding technology for the production of 3D variably shaped cross-section fabric, focusing on three key factors: the topology design of tracks, the arrangement of carriers, and the matrix algorithm of the braiding of variably shaped cross sections. We calculated new kind of structural synthesis approach to a 3D braiding track for a variable section based on the carrier arrangement characteristic method and completed the entire braiding scheme of the variable cross section. In addition, this approach represents an important step toward a simplified understanding of the carrier motion and the operator-independent operation of a 3D rotary braiding machine.

Abstract: This study aimed to summarize the clinical experience of severe intrathoracic anastomotic leakage encountered in clinical practice by using cervical end-esophageal exteriorization. Methods We undertook a retrospective review of four patients who developed severe anastomotic leakage after subtotal esophagectomy at our department. Four patients with a life-threatening condition and failed conservative management were re-operated on from the original incision using an exteriorized cervical end-esophageal gastric conduit. We returned the gastric conduit to the abdomen and placed a feeding jejunostomy or gastrostomy catheter. Until inflammation was controlled, we re-established intestinal continuity with the gastric or colon conduit, pulled up to the neck by a retrosternal channel. Results Four patients with esophagectomy and severe intrathoracic anastomotic leakage underwent re-operation. The gastric conduit was returned to the abdomen and cervical end-esophageal exteriorization was performed. Inflammation was rapidly controlled after surgery. Three patients received a second re-operation to re-establish intestinal continuity on days 63, 63, and 16 after the first re-operation. One patient refused re-operation to re-establish intestinal continuity. All four patients survived. Conclusion Cervical end-esophageal exteriorization in patients with severe intrathoracic anastomotic leakage results in rapid control of inflammation. This creates an opportunity to re-establish gastrointestinal continuity, leading to survival of patients.

Abstract: Deep-shaft mining in roadway stress concentration, difficult control of the surrounding rock, and mining imbalance affect mining efficiency in coal mines. The mechanical parameters and crack development law of roadway surrounding rock were studied by laboratory experiments. The mechanical model was established by the method of theoretical analysis, the maximum empty roof distance was deduced, and two support schemes were designed. Through the numerical simulation method, the support scheme was compared and analyzed, the deformation rule of roadway surrounding rock, the optimization of roadway support parameters and the application of hysteresis technology are studied. The effect of different support schemes was verified by three-dimensional similar simulation experiments. The practical engineering verification showed that the construction time of each support circle was reduced by approximately 1 h, and the work was completed 60 days earlier. The research showed that the optimal support scheme was support scheme 1 (7 bolts with 800 mm × 1000 mm spacing between the roof, 10 bolts with 800 mm × 1000 mm spacing between the two sides, and 2 × 1 × 2 cables with 1600 mm × 2000 mm spacing between the roof). Support scheme 1 was applied to the engineering site to control the deformation of surrounding rock at 80 mm, and the deformation was less than the original support scheme. The construction was completed in advance under the hysteresis process, and the support efficiency and operation safety were improved. The results revealed the mechanism of surrounding rock control and proved the effectiveness of digging support synergy. This optimization plan serves as a reference for studying roadway support in rapid excavation and provides theoretical support for safe and efficient coal roadway mining.

Abstract: This systematic survey evaluates the completeness of reporting in pilot and feasibility randomized controlled trials investigating behavioral interventions based on the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) extension for pilot trials. Methods: The authors searched Medline/Pubmed and randomly selected 100 articles from 2012 through 2016 to determine the proportion of reported CONSORT extension items. They examined study factors related to reporting, including year and country of publication, psychotherapy intervention, multiple centers, industry funding, and journal endorsement of CONSORT. Results: The authors found that the mean reporting score on the CONSORT extension was 51.6% ( SD = 15.1). Studies of psychotherapy interventions had significantly higher reporting scores than other interventions (incidence rate ratio = 1.10, 95% confidence interval: 1.01–1.20). Conclusions: Our findings indicate that current reporting quality is suboptimal. Many included trials failed to provide rationale for piloting, assess feasibility objectives, or indicate clear progression to a future large trial. Reporting quality should be reevaluated following uptake of the 2016 CONSORT extension for pilot trials.

Abstract: Objective: This study analyzes the trend of change and influencing factors of filial responsibility attitudes in China. Method: The study uses data of Panel Study of Family Dynamics (PSFD) conducted in three Southeast regions in China in the year 2004 and 2017. Results: This study has two major findings. First, there was no significant decline in filial responsibility attitudes over the decade in spite of aging tendency. Both Reciprocal Filial Piety (RFP) and Authoritative Filial Piety (AFP) have not declined, with similar trend to men and women. Second, factors affecting filial responsibility attitudes have changed over the 13 years, with the impact of educational attainment and employment declining, while the effect of marital status increasing. Gender heterogeneity in the process was obvious. Conclusion: This study adds to literature on filial piety in Confucian society and provides empirical evidence on the future of cross-cultural filial responsibility attitudes.

Abstract: To search for novel Protox inhibitors, a series of phenyl and 1,4-benzoxazin-5-yl pyrazole derivatives were synthesised from 3-(4-chloro-2-fluoro-5-methoxyphenyl)-1-methyl-5-trifluoromethyl-1 H-pyrazole or its halogen substituted derivatives, via a serial of reactions that included nitration, reduction, acetylation, ring closure, methylation, etc. The single crystal of 2-(N-acetylacetamido)-6-chloro-3-[4-chloro-5-(trifluoromethyl)-1-methyl-1 H-pyrazol-3-yl]-4-fluorophenyl acetate was prepared, and its structure was determined by X-ray analysis. The preliminary bioassay test shows that some of the compounds have high bioactivity. Especially, even at a low dosage of 150 g hm −2 , 2-(N-acetylaceta-mido)-6-chloro-3-[4-chloro-5-(trifluoromethyl)-1-methyl-1 H-pyrazol-3-yl]-4-fluorophenyl acetate exhibited high activity, the inhibiting rate for both of the weeds reached above 90%.
