Abstract: This study aimed to determine the efficacy of alprostadil in preventing contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN). Eligible studies were searched using the keywords through the databases of PubMed, Cochrane, Embase, China Biological Medicine Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Vanfun. Quality evaluation of the included studies was conducted according to international evidence evaluation and recommended Grades of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation standards. We included 29 studies with 5623 patients. Compared with hydration, 10 µg/d alprostadil or 20 µg/d alprostadil plus hydration significantly decreased the incidence of CIN. Compared with hydration, alprostadil plus hydration significantly reduced serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen at 24, 48, and 72 hours and 7 days after coronary angiography (CAG). Alprostadil (20 µg/d) plus hydration significantly decreased serum cystatin versus hydration at 24, 48, and 72 hours after CAG. Compared with hydration, alprostadil plus hydration significantly increased glomerular filtration rate at 24 and 72 hours after CAG. Alprostadil plus hydration significantly decreased neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin levels compared to hydration at 24, 48, and 72 hours after CAG. Alprostadil plus hydration significantly decreased urine macroglobulin versus hydration at 24 and 48 hours after CAG.

Abstract: A new variable stiffness four-finger soft gripper with a combination of rigid and soft structures is designed. The combination of rigid and soft structures is one of the methods to improve the performance of soft grippers. Grasping motion is achieved by the rigid structure of the screw and the connecting rod. Soft gripper uses human finger-like structure made of silicone, and the air pressure and the rigidity of the soft fingers can be adjusted by the air pump. The soft gripper overcomes the inability of a rigid gripper to easily and safely grasp soft and brittle objects and the inability of a completely soft gripper to exert sufficiently high forces to achieve effective grasping. Grasping force can be improved by increasing the stiffness of the finger and the driving stroke of screw. The variable grasping force allows the soft gripper to grasp different shape objects, specially soft and brittle objects.

Abstract: Acute pancreatitis (AP) is one of the most common acute abdominal conditions, and its incidence has been increasing for years. Approximately 15–20% of patients develop severe AP (SAP), which is complicated by critical inflammatory injury and intestinal dysfunction. AP-associated inflammation can lead to the gut barrier and function damage, causing dysbacteriosis and facilitating intestinal microbiota migration. Pancreatic exocrine deficiency and decreased levels of antimicrobial peptides in AP can also lead to abnormal growth of intestinal bacteria. Meanwhile, intestinal microbiota migration influences the pancreatic microenvironment and affects the severity of AP, which, in turn, exacerbates the systemic inflammatory response. Thus, the interaction between the gut microbiota (GM) and the inflammatory response may be a key pathogenic feature of SAP. Treating either of these factors or breaking their interaction may offer some benefits for SAP treatment. In this review, we discuss the mechanisms of interaction of the GM and inflammation in AP and factors that can deteriorate or even cure both, including some traditional Chinese medicine treatments, to provide new methods for studying AP pathogenesis and developing therapies.

Abstract: The ancient Loulan, situated on the west bank of Lake Lop Nur, Xinjiang, Northwest China, was an important town on the Silk Road connecting China to Europe. However, this once-prosperous kingdom has been a depopulated zone filled with wind-eroded mounds since approximately AD 500–600. A comprehensive understanding of the environmental setting of the flourishing Loulan civilization is a prerequisite for assessing environment–human interaction there. Here, we present our survey, chronology, and archaeobotany (the identification of plant remains) of vegetation use for architecture from eight ancient ruins of the Loulan kingdom to clarify the ecological landscape on the west bank of Lake Lop Nur and to assess paleoenvironmental conditions when the Loulan kingdom flourished. Our results suggest that Populus euphratica, tamarisk ( Tamarix Linn), and reed ( Phragmites Trin.) were most widely used as building materials in this period. Wood utilization for buildings depended entirely on indigenous vegetation rather than that of the mountains in the Loulan kingdom, even though the Loulan was a predominant transportation hub on the prosperous Silk Road. Our reconstruction indicates that the west bank of Lake Lop Nur was sufficiently wetter than present conditions to support riparian forest growth composed mainly of P. euphratica, tamarisk shrubs, and reed meadows, until approximately AD 500. These wetter conditions and flourishing civilization accompanied an increase in precipitation in arid central Asia. Conversely, combined evidence of both archeological and paleoclimatic records from the water sources of Lake Lop Nur and ancient oases suggest that abrupt decreased mountain precipitation could be considered a significant environmental factor in the decline of Loulan kingdom.

Abstract: The relationship between systemic arterial blood pressure (BP) and intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) after mechanical thrombectomy (MT) of the cerebral artery remains unclear. This study aimed to determine the effect of BP variables on ICH after MT in patients with acute occlusions of the anterior cerebral circulation. Patients undergoing MT due to acute occlusions of the anterior cerebral circulation were enrolled in this single-center study. Non-invasive BP data following MT were obtained within the first 24 hours, including mean, maximum, minimum, difference between maximum and minimum, SD and coefficient of variation for systolic BP (SBP) and diastolic BP (DBP) and mean arterial pressure. ICH was defined and classified according to the European Cooperative Acute Stroke Study-II. In 164 enrolled patients (median age 65 (IQR 56-75) years; 31.7% female), higher maximum (89.5 mm Hg vs 98.5 mm Hg, p=0.001) and SD (9.8 mm Hg vs 10.9 mm Hg, p=0.038) of DBP were associated with higher risk of ICH. The optimal cut-off values associated with ICH for maximum SBP were 155 mm Hg and for maximum DBP 92.5 mm Hg, respectively. Higher BP within 24 hours after MT in acute occlusions of the anterior cerebral circulation is associated with a greater risk of ICH. More studies are needed to further determine optimal BP goals in the acute phase after MT.

Abstract: Two new monomers were prepared by the reaction of 2-allylphenol and 4,4′-biphenyldicarbonyl chloride under different reaction conditions. The monomers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The curing processes of N, N-4,4′-bismaleimidodiphenylmethyene with 4,4′-bis(2-allylphenyl) biphenyldicarbonylate (BABC) and 4,4′-bis(2-propenylphenyl benzoate) ether (BPBE) were studied by rheological analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. Melting points of two monomers, BABC and BPBE, are 64°C and 121°C, respectively. The ABMI [4,4′-bis(2-allylphenyl)biphenyl bismaleimide] and PBMI [4,4′-bis(2-propenylphenyl)biphenyl bismaleimide] resins showed exothermic peaks at 233°C and 204°C, respectively. The measured melting points are significantly lower than that of the traditional bismaleimide resin which is modified by allyl bisphenol A. Dynamic mechanical analysis of the materials showed glass transition temperatures of ABMI and PBMI to be in the range of 213–258°C and 302–339°C, respectively. Thermogravimetric analysis of the cured resins showed 5% weight loss for ABMI and PMBI at 437°C and 428°C, along with char residues of 35.6–39.5%, respectively, at 800°C under nitrogen atmosphere. Furthermore, dielectric constants of propenyl-modified resins were lower (2.46–3.10) with dissipation factors of 0.0034–0.0036, compared with those of allyl bisphenol A resins.

Abstract: To better understand the development of therapy for asthma, grasp the core paradigm associated with the transformation of cognition of asthma treatment and asthma, explore potential and effective therapies for asthma, discover new biomarkers and mechanisms related to asthma treatment, find novel targets for anti-asthma drugs, and predict the future trends of asthma therapy, we used a bibliometric analysis to research articles related to the therapies for asthma published from 1983 to 2022. Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted to analyze the articles associated with therapy for asthma with the help of the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) database from January 1, 1983 to August 14, 2022. The CiteSpace 6.1.R2 software and VOS viewer 6.1.8 software were utilized to analyze the overall structure of the network, network clusters, links between clusters, key nodes, and pathways. Results: A total of 3902 publications related to therapies on asthma were published in 3211 academic journals by a total of 14,655 authors in 3476 organizations from 87 countries or regions from 1983 to 2022. The United States published the most articles ( n = 1143), followed by England ( n = 574) and China ( n = 405). However, the centrality of China was 0.4, higher than the United States (centrality = 0.16) and Singapore (centrality = 0.11). Akdis Cezmi published the most papers. Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology published the most studies on therapies for asthma. Asthma was the most frequent keyword ( n = 594). The betweenness centrality value of keywords that were greater than 0.1 included airway inflammation (centrality = 0.22), double blind (centrality = 0.18), asthma (centrality = 0.17), inflammation (centrality = 0.12), and inhaled corticosteroid (centrality = 0.11). Conclusions: The results from this biometric review provide insight into the development of therapy for asthma, the paradigm of recognition of this field, the approach of discovering new targets, exploration and combination of new mechanisms, and the frontier trend of this field in future.

Abstract: In this article, a flexible tactile sensor that made of conductive silicone rubber for dexterous robot hand is designed. The tactile sensor is made up of four microsensors. The maximum gripping force is simulated when the degree of a robot finger joint is 138. Meanwhile, a control system to analyze the creep and hysteresis characteristics and a processing system of the tactile sensor is designed. We also demonstrated an experiment for the application of robot grasp object, showing the finger’s flexibility and sensitivity. Then the feedback data is sent to control system to provide precise grasp action changes for the robot hand.

Abstract: Fishes can avoid colliding with obstacles and track baits depending on the lateral distributed sense nodes which can sense the pressure variances of the surrounding flow field. Fish often uses the lateral-line system as their only means for navigation, especially under poor visual conditions. This sensing mechanism provides a new perspective for researchers and engineers to build such a sensing system that could be applied to control and near field navigation for underwater robots and vehicles. In this article, a pressure-sensing-based is proposed, with 10 pressure sensors acting as lateral line and use the three-dimensional printer to print the fish structure and install the artificial lateral line on it. Through preliminary experiments and numerical simulation, we obtain the pressure sensor data. By comparing the experimental data with the numerical simulation data, it can be verified that the pressure variation of the pressure sensor in the numerical simulation data is consistent with that in the experimental data. The artificial lateral line provides a new sense to man-made underwater vehicles and marine robots, so that they can sense like fish.

Abstract: The FIRE-3 phase III clinical trial demonstrated the marked advantage of prolonging the median overall survival of patients with final RAS wild-type (WT) left-sided metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) by 38.3 months after treatment with irinotecan, fluorouracil, and leucovorin (FOLFIRI) plus cetuximab and by 28.0 months after treatment with FOLFIRI plus bevacizumab. However, the substantial cost increase and economic impact of using cetuximab imposes a considerable burden on patients and society. Methods: A Markov model based on the data collected in the FIRE-3 trial was developed to investigate the cost-effectiveness of treating patients with FOLFIRI plus either cetuximab or bevacizumab from the perspective of the Chinese health-care system. Costs, quality-adjusted life years (QALYs), and incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs) were calculated over a lifetime horizon. One-way and probabilistic sensitivity analyses were performed by varying potentially modifiable parameters. Results: In our analysis, the total treatment costs in the bevacizumab and cetuximab groups were $92 549.31 and $94 987.31, respectively, and the QALYs gained were 1.58 and 2.05. In the base-case analysis, compared with bevacizumab, left-sided RAS WT patients receiving cetuximab gained 0.47 more QALYs at an ICER of $5187.23/QALY ($3166.23/LY). The 1-way sensitivity analysis showed that the most influential parameter was the cost of cetuximab. Probabilistic sensitivity analysis indicated that the cost-effective probability of cetuximab group was 92.8% under the willingness-to-pay threshold of $24 081. Conclusions: Treatment with FOLFIRI plus cetuximab in Chinese patients with left-sided RAS WT mCRC may improve health outcomes and use financial resources more efficiently than FOLFIRI plus bevacizumab.
