    Abstract: Mycoplasma gallisepticum infections impose a significant economic burden on the poultry industry. In the current study, a loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay was developed and optimized to detect M. gallisepticum based on a gene within the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex, the pdhA gene, which codes for the major subunit (E1α) in the complex. The reaction conditions were optimized, and the specificity was confirmed by successful amplification of several M. gallisepticum strains, while no amplification was detected with 20 other major bacterial and viral pathogens of poultry. Additionally, the LAMP assay achieved 10-fold higher sensitivity than an existing polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method. The LAMP assay was applied to swab samples collected from poultry farms and compared with PCR. The positive detection rate was 20.2% (37/183) by LAMP and 13.1% (24/183) by PCR. The LAMP assay could provide a cost-effective, quick, and sensitive method for the detection of M. gallisepticum.

    Abstract: According to the gas film force variation law, when the bearing axis is slightly displaced from the static equilibrium position, displacement and velocity disturbance relation expressions for the gas film force increment are constructed. Moreover, combined with the bearing rotor system motion equation, calculation model equations for the gas film stiffness and damping coefficients are established. The axial and radial vibration and velocity of the gas bearings during operation are collected. The instantaneous stiffness and damping coefficients of the gas film are calculated by the rolling iteration algorithm using MATLAB. The dynamic changes in the gas film stiffness and damping under different motion states are analyzed, and the mechanism of the gas film vortex and oscillation is studied. The results demonstrate the following: (1) When the gas bearing is running in the linear steady state in cycle 1, the dynamic pressure effect is enhanced and the stability is improved by increasing the eccentricity; when the gas supply pressure is increased, the static pressure effect is enhanced and the gas film vortex is reduced, but the oscillation is strengthened. (2) With the increase in rotational speed, the gas film vortex force gradually exceeds the gas film damping force, and the stability gradually worsens, causing a fluctuation in the gas film stiffness and damping, following which singularity occurs and a half-speed vortex is formed. Meanwhile, the gas film oscillation is intensified, and the rotor enters the nonlinear stable cycle 2 state operation. (3) As the fluctuation of the film force increases, the instantaneous stiffness and damping oscillation of the film intensifies, most of the stiffness and damping coefficients exhibit distortion, and the rotor operation will enter a chaotic or unstable state. Therefore, the gas bearing stiffness and damping variation characteristics can be used to study and predict the gas bearing operating state. Finally, measures for reducing the vortex and oscillation of the gas film and improving the stability of the gas bearing operation are proposed.

    Abstract: The aim of this study was to monitor the mircostructure change of temporal lobe during the acute and subacute stage of radiation-induced brain injury using magnetic resonance diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients. Methods and Study Design Eighty patients diagnosed with nasopharyngeal carcinoma and treated with the first radiotherapy from July 2010 to May 2012 were enrolled. Routine brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and DTI were conducted in all patients before and during radiotherapy (radiation dose was 20, 40, and 60 Gy, respectively). The MRI and DTI were also performed in the 1 st , 2 nd , and 3 rd month after radiotherapy in 47 cases of 80 patients. The apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and fractional anisotropy (FA) of DTI during different stages were dynamically observed and analyzed. Results The ADC values were increased and the FA values were decreased with the increase of radiation dose (20, 40, and 60 Gy) during the radiotherapy, but there was no significant difference in ADC value or FA value between before and during radiotherapy (p 〉 0.05). Compared with before radiotherapy, the ADC values were significantly increased and the FA values were significantly decreased at the 1 st month, 2 nd month, and 3 rd month after radiotherapy (all p 〈 0.05). Conclusions Diffusion tensor imaging reflects the microstructure change of radiation-induced brain injury in the acute and subacute stage, which provides an objective basis for early intervention of potential irreversible brain injury in the late delayed stage, and has important significance for improving the overall efficacy of radiotherapy.

    Abstract: Primary intracranial teratomas are rare intracranial neoplasms, and are subdivided into mature, immature, and those with malignant transformation. To date, only a few studies of teratoma imaging have been reported. Purpose To describe and characterize the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings in a series of 18 patients (16 men/boys and 2 women/girls; mean age, 14.5 years) with pathologically proven teratomas. Material and Methods Findings from medical records and imaging examinations in 18 patients with pathologically confirmed intracranial teratomas from 2001 to 2011were retrospectively reviewed at our two institutions. Two radiologists evaluated the lesion location, shape, size, number, edge, homogeneous or heterogeneous appearance, attenuation, signal intensity, and degree of enhancement. Results All tumors were located within the pineal ( n = 13), parasellar ( n = 2), or suprasellar ( n = 3) regions. The lesions appeared of mixed intensity on MRI, reflecting the histologic heterogeneity, including fibrosis, fatty tissue, calcification, cysts, and keratinocytes. In mature teratomas ( n = 9), seven of nine tumors showed non-enhanced multilocularity or heterogeneous enhancement of the cyst wall on contrast-enhanced T1-weighted (T1W) images. Two of nine tumors showed moderate, heterogeneous enhancement in the solid portion of the lesion; whereas in immature ( n = 7) or malignant transformation ( n = 2) teratomas, heterogeneous, ring-like, intratumoral patchy enhancement was noted on T1W images with contrast. Conclusion Primary intracranial teratomas are usually localized in the pineal and the suprasellar regions, and often present an ovoid or lobulated mass with or without multilocularity on MRI. Marked enhancement of the solid portion or the thick wall of the tumor was the key feature for distinguishing mature teratoma and malignant teratoma.

    Abstract: Through lithiation and electrophilic substitution of three calix[4]pyrroles, a series of new calix[4] pyrrole derivatives were synthesised. The derivatives were hydrolysed to produce acids and, under base catalysis, new esters were formed. Thus calix[4]pyrroles with an active functional group were obtained. The optimum reaction and purification conditions were investigated. The binding properties of the new derivatives with anions was examined.
