Abstract: Informal caregivers are often placed in a better position to understand and advocate for the vocational needs of young persons with mental health conditions. However, their opinions are largely ignored in the planning of vocational outcomes. This qualitative study had two broad aims: to explore (1) the perceptions of caregivers of young adults with mental health conditions on issues of paid employment and (2) their views and expectations of employment support services. Methods: A total of 30 semi-structured interviews were conducted. Caregivers were 45 years old on average, the majority were women (73%) and were of Chinese ethnicity (53%). Most participants (60%) were parents of the young persons with psychotic disorders (57%), or affective and mood disorders, such as depression or anxiety disorders (43%). Results: Thematic analyses of data revealed three superordinate themes: (1) caregiving roles, (2) caregivers’ expectations and hopes, and (3) barriers to employmentof young persons with mental health conditions. Conclusions and implications for practice: Caregivers strongly believed that employment support services should prioritise and advocate for recovery while securing employment. Local mental health employment support services should incorporate the views and expectations of caregivers of young persons with mental health conditions to foster better coordination between stakeholders, and enhance support for successful employment, reintegration into the community, and ultimately recovery for these individuals.

Abstract: A major challenge for control charts monitoring the coefficient of variation is to quickly detect shifts in this parameter, so that assignable cause(s) can be quickly removed and the process can operate in an in-control state with a stable coefficient of variation. This is especially so when there are constraints in the sample size. One proposed strategy is to vary the sample size according to the most recent information. However, a side-sensitive synthetic chart monitoring the coefficient of variation with variable sample size is not available. This paper contributes to the literature by developing a variable sample size side-sensitive synthetic chart for the coefficient of variation. The main contributions are in terms of illustrating the operations of the chart, deriving the formulae to evaluate its performance and developing the algorithms to optimize its performance. Comparisons with current charts show that the proposed chart outperforms all existing synthetic-type charts monitoring the coefficient of variation. The proposed chart also outperforms the variable sample size coefficient of variation chart for all shift sizes. In addition, it outperforms the variable sample size run sum and variable sample size Exponentially Weighted Moving Average charts monitoring the coefficient of variation for moderate and large shift sizes.

Abstract: Plain language summary Assessing Serplulimab’s Value in Treating Advanced Esophageal Cancer in China In China, esophageal cancer patients often need chemotherapy due to late diagnosis. Serplulimab, an expensive new treatment, is not cost-effective when combined with chemotherapy for most patients. However, for specific patient groups with a PD-L1 expression CPS ⩾ 10, it is both effective and affordable. This finding helps health care leaders create better pricing strategies.

Abstract: Short-term oral steroid use may improve lung function and respiratory symptoms in patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, long-term oral steroid (LTOS) use is not recommended owing to its potential adverse effects. Our study aimed to investigate whether chronic use of oral steroids for more than 4 months would increase mortality and vertebral fracture risk in patients with stable COPD. A systemic search of the PubMed database was conducted, and meta-analysis was performed using Review Manager 5.3. Five studies with a total of 1795 patients showed there was an increased risk of mortality in patients using LTOS (relative risk, 1.63; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.19–2.23; p 〈 0.0001; I 2 = 86%). In addition, four studies with a total of 17,764 patients showed there was an increased risk of vertebral fracture in patients using LTOS (odds ratio, 2.31; 95% CI, 1.52–3.50; p = 0.03; I 2 = 65%). Our meta-analysis showed LTOS was associated with increased mortality and vertebral fracture risk in patients with COPD, and this risk may be due to the adverse effects of LTOS and progression COPD.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to validate the applicability of our proposed disease-specific questionnaire to Cantonese coronary heart disease (CHD) patients. During the investigation from August 2010 to March 2012, 1000 Cantonese inpatients were recruited. The reliability of the scale was judged by the internal consistency, and the content and construct validity were assessed by using Pearson correlation and confirmatory factor analysis, respectively. Results showed that the Cronbach’s α coefficient for the whole scale and most domains/facets were larger than .70 (.59 to .93). Most items had moderate to strong Pearson correlations with their respective facets ( r 〉 0.50). Confirmatory factor analysis showed that the indices for goodness of fit were nearly acceptable. Overall, the QLICD-CHD scale has adequate psychometric properties when applied to Cantonese CHD patients.

Abstract: The side sensitive group runs double sampling (SSGRDS) [Formula: see text] scheme is previously studied under the known process parameters (Case-K) assumption. As the process parameters are hardly known in practical situations, they must be estimated using a suitably chosen in-control (IC) Phase-I sample. However, various studies demonstrated that a substantial amount of Phase-I sample is necessary so that the scheme with unknown process parameters (Case-U) attains a performance almost similar to that of the Case-K counterpart. Since it is challenging to acquire a vast number of IC samples, we examine the optimal designs of the Case-U SSGRDS [Formula: see text] scheme such that the average number of observations to signal (ANOS) and expected ANOS (EANOS) are minimised. The optimal parameters obtained for the Case-U SSGRDS [Formula: see text] scheme enable it to have a performance comparable to that of the Case-K counterpart, without the need for a large number of Phase-I samples. We show that the Case-U SSGRDS [Formula: see text] scheme is effective in identifying the process mean shift of a silicon epitaxial process.

Abstract: Arteriovenous fistula is recommended for the general dialysis population, but its use remains controversial in the elderly population. We evaluated the long-term outcomes of lateral tunneled transposed brachiobasilic arteriovenous fistulas in older patients who underwent hemodialysis. Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, we included patients who received a two-stage transposed brachiobasilic arteriovenous fistula in a medical center from May 2005 to January 2014. The patients were followed up from the fistula placement date until any intervention, death, failure, January 2015, or the end of the sixth year. Death and arteriovenous fistula failure during the observation period were considered as adverse outcomes, and the cause of death was identified. The cumulative patency rate was calculated using the Kaplan–Meier approach to reveal the long-term outcomes of this procedure. Results: Among the 66 patients who underwent surgery, the average age was 65.8 ± 13.5 years and the majority were females (62.1%). After a median follow-up of 20.6 months, 19 patients died, 12 (18.2%) received vascular intervention, and 3 experienced fistula failure. No significant difference was observed in the 6-year cumulative patency rates between younger and older adults (96.3% vs 80.3%, p = 0.58). None of the deaths during the observation period were related to bloodstream infection. Conclusion: A two-stage lateral tunneled transposed brachiobasilic arteriovenous fistula can be applied to patients undergoing hemodialysis, regardless of age.

Abstract: Teacher-centered instruction has been widely adopted in college computer science classrooms and has some benefits in training computer science undergraduates. Meanwhile, student-centered contexts have been advocated to promote computer science education. How computer science learners respond to or prefer the two types of teacher authority, student-centered versus teacher-centered, has not yet been fully examined. Therefore, the purpose of the present study is to probe how preference for teacher-centered learning or student-centered learning may affect self-efficacy in learning computer science among undergraduate computer science majors. The participants were 804 college computer science majors across Taiwan. They anonymously responded to the “Teacher Authority Scale” (with four subscales: “Preference for autonomy,” “Preference for participative management,” “Preference for dependency,” and “Preference for teacher control”) and the “Self-efficacy in Learning Computer Science Scale.” Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to delineate two sets of variables. The results indicate that preference for autonomy in computer science learning positively predicts selfefficacy in learning computer science with the strongest coefficient. Computer science learner preference for teacher control is also a positive predictor. However, preference for participation in managing the computer class and preference for depending on the teacher did not play a significant role in the students' self-efficacy in learning computer science.
