    Abstract: In a previous study, we found that traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) alleviated the clinical symptoms and improved the quality of life (QoL) in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Objectives: A cohort was continuously followed up to determine the impact of the TCM adjuvant therapies on the prognosis of HCC after conventional treatments. Methods: We did a retrospective monocentric cohort study including 175 eligible patients. The participants who received TCM adjuvant therapies were termed as TCM group. For the purpose of stratification analysis, the patients who received TCM adjuvant therapies over 3 months per year were further classified into the high frequency group, while the rest of the TCM users were classified into the low frequency group. Non-users were recorded as the control group. The primary outcome was overall survival (OS) and the secondary outcome was the mean progression-free survival (mPFS) primarily introduced in this study, referring to the time from initial diagnosis to the latest progression over the number of disease progressions. Analyses used Cox proportional hazards and Kaplan-Meier (K-M) methods, adjusted for stratification factors. Results: Until June 30, 2021, 56 patients survived, 21 patients were lost to follow-up, and 98 patients died from the disease. Each disease progression of every individual was recorded, and most of the PFS was within 1 year. The baseline data of the allocated groups were balanced, the result revealed that TCM adjuvant therapies might have little influence on OS ( P = .129). However, the 1, 3, and 5-year progression-free survival rates of the patients in TCM and control group were 68.75%, 37.50%; 25.00%, 8.33% and 8.33%, 2.08%, respectively, indicating TCM use significantly extended the mPFS, and decreased the risk of disease progression by a factor of 0.676 ( P = .006). In the patients with BCLC stage B HCC, compared with controls, a 37-month median OS advantage in the high frequency group was noted ( P = .045); and the high frequency of TCM use significantly suppressed disease progression ( P = .001). Conclusions: The present study revealed that TCM adjuvant therapies could postpone disease progression in HCC. Furthermore, using TCM over 3 months per year might extend OS in patients with intermediate HCC.

    Abstract: The triaxial woven fabric is known for their light weight and isotropy of mechanical properties. However, researches that using it as reinforcement to form different structural composites were rarely mentioned. Here, we found that the effect of the triaxial woven fabric can be almost equivalent to the unidirectional fabric in flexural strength (99.18%) when it was added as a reinforcing material into the unidirectional fabric composites even though the weight of triaxial woven fabric has only a third of unidirectional fabric. Moreover, the effects and mechanisms are quite different when changing the position of the triaxial woven fabric in the composites. The damage modes of composites when triaxial woven fabric in different stacking sequences were summarized and the resin blocks model from triaxial woven fabric composites was presented in this paper.

    Abstract: To report demographics and clinical, laboratory, and imaging features of acute renal infarction (ARI) due to symptomatic isolated spontaneous renal artery dissection (SISRAD) and to analyze outcomes after the initial therapy for SISRAD. Methods: Thirteen patients with ARI due to SISRAD between January 2016 and March 2021 were enrolled in this retrospective study. We reviewed the demographics, clinical, laboratory, and imaging features (location of the infarct kidney, the branch artery involved by dissection, true lumen stenosis, false lumen thrombosis, and aneurysm), treatment modalities, and follow-up results; analyzed the difference between SISRAD and other causes of ARI; and propose an appropriate therapy strategy for SISRAD based on our data and literature. Result: Patients with ARI due to SISRAD were mostly young men (43 [24–53] years; 12/13 [92%] ). No patients had atrial fibrillation or acute kidney injury at admission (0/13). All 13 patients received conservative treatment as the initial treatment. Sixty-two percent (8/13) of patients progressed, and 88% (7/8) of them had dissection aneurysm on the admission computed tomographic angiography (CTA) image. Seventy-five percent (6/8) of patients underwent endovascular intervention as follows, stent placement in 1 patient, renal artery embolization in 1, and stent placement with embolization in 4. Two patients with disease progression died: 1 during the conservative treatment period and 1 after the stent placement. Thirty-eight percent (5/13) of patients in remission continued to receive conservative treatment, none of whom had dissection aneurysm on the admission CTA. Conclusion: Symptomatic isolated spontaneous renal artery dissection is a rare and fatal disease. For young ARI patients with no previous history of tumors and cardiogenic diseases, CTA examination is recommended to exclude SISRAD. Dissection aneurysm seems to be a risk of progression for SISRAD in this series. Conservative treatment, a recognized initial treatment, has a good effect on patients without dissection aneurysm, and we recommend endovascular intervention as the initial treatment for the patient with dissection aneurysm at admission. Multicenter clinical studies are needed to explore a more-appropriate treatment for patients with SISRAD. Clinical Impact This article report the related factors, risks, demographics and laboratory data of Acute renal infarction (ARI) due to Symptomatic isolated spontaneous renal artery dissection (SISRAD) and explore a better initial therapy strategy for SISRAD. It will help improve the effectiveness of SISRAD treatment and reduce the mortality rate from this rare but lethal disease.

    Abstract: Research suggests people try to protect their social self-esteem from threats from the ingroup or the outgroup. However, how members react to a threat to social self-esteem from a third party remains unclear. Three studies were conducted to examine the influence of a threat to social self-esteem from an authoritative third party on ingroup favoritism. We explored the effect of negative (versus positive) evaluation from the testing system on explicit and implicit ingroup favoritism in Study 1 and Study 2 respectively. We compared the effect of negative evaluation posed by the testing system or the competitive outgroup on ingroup favoritism in Study 3. Results suggested that individuals experiencing a threat to social self-esteem from an authoritative third party manifested less ingroup favoritism than those experiencing no threat or outgroup threat. The theoretical implications of this research on social identity theory and the practical implications of reducing intergroup bias are discussed.

    Abstract: The cyclooxygenase (COX)/prostaglandin E2 (PGE 2 ) signaling pathway has emerged as a critical target for anti-inflammatory therapeutic development in neurological diseases. However, medical use of COX inhibitors in the treatment of various neurological disorders has been limited due to well-documented cardiovascular and cerebrovascular complications. It has been widely proposed that modulation of downstream microsomal prostaglandin E synthase-1 (mPGES-1) enzyme may provide more specificity for inhibiting PGE 2 -elicited neuroinflammation. Heightened levels of mPGES-1 have been detected in a variety of brain diseases such as epilepsy, stroke, glioma, and neurodegenerative diseases. Subsequently, elevated levels of PGE 2 , the enzymatic product of mPGES-1, have been demonstrated to modulate a multitude of deleterious effects. In epilepsy, PGE 2 participates in retrograde signaling to augment glutamate release at the synapse leading to neuronal death. The excitotoxic demise of neurons incites the activation of microglia, which can become overactive upon further stimulation by PGE 2 . A selective mPGES-1 inhibitor was able to reduce gliosis and the expression of proinflammatory cytokines in the hippocampus following status epilepticus. A similar mechanism has also been observed in stroke, where the overactivation of microglia by PGE 2 upregulated the expression and secretion of proinflammatory cytokines. This intense activation of neuroinflammatory processes triggered the secondary injury commonly observed in stroke, and blockade of mPGES-1 reduced infarction size and edema, suppressed induction of proinflammatory cytokines, and improved post-stroke well-being and cognition. Furthermore, elevated levels of PGE 2 have been shown to intensify the proliferation of glioma cells, mediate P-glycoprotein expression at the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and facilitate breakdown of the BBB. For these reasons, targeting mPGES-1, the central and inducible enzyme of the COX cascade, may provide a more specific therapeutic strategy for treating neuroinflammatory diseases.

    Abstract: To report a successful case of pseudoaneurysm of the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) caused by infected endocarditis treated with a covered stent. Case Report: A patient was diagnosed with infective endocarditis and 2 months later a proximal SMA pseudoaneurysm was identified on computed tomography. Daptomycin was started on admission and continued for approximately 4 months until the inflammatory markers normalized, and then the SMA pseudoaneurysm was successfully excluded with a stent-graft and antibiotics were continued for 1 year after the procedure. There were no associated complications or recurrences at the 3-year follow-up. Conclusion: Placing a covered stent with a full course of antibiotics before and after surgery may be a successful alternative to open surgery in the treatment of pseudoaneurysms of the SMA due to infective endocarditis. Clinical Impact This case report reports a rare case of pseudoaneurysm of the superior mesenteric artery due to infective endocarditis, which was successfully treated with an overlapping stent and confirmed by complete imaging data at a three-year follow-up. This report suggests that endovascular treatment may be an alternative to open surgery in the treatment of pseudoaneurysms of the superior mesenteric artery caused by infective endocarditis.

    Abstract: This paper presents the design and development of three-dimensional braided honeycomb structures. The basic principles and braiding process are described. The relationship between braiding parameters and honeycomb geometric parameters is established and several three-dimensional (3D) braided honeycomb fabrics are introduced. Based on the principle of the 3D braiding ‘four-step’ method, the interlaced state of yarns can be changed by controlling the movement of yarn carriers, so the separation and combination of the braid can be controlled, then 3D braided honeycomb fabric can be formed. As the number of braiding cycles of wall length increases, the relative density will gradually decrease, but the number of braiding cycles of free wall length has a greater effect on the relative density. When the number of columns of yarns participating in wall thickness increases, the relative density will gradually increase. The relative density also showed a positive correlation with the braiding angle. With the increase of the opening angle, the relative density gradually decreases, although there is a minimum point after which a little increase is observed. This paper provides significant guidance for designing various 3D braided honeycomb structures and evaluating their relative density, and can be a reference for the design and development of new honeycombs structures.

    Abstract: To understand the effectiveness of some garment adjustment designs for high school uniform in winter, manikin tests and subjective wear trials were carried out. Five series of school uniform ensembles were involved in the experiments. They were further collocated into 17 ensemble configurations with detachable designs (ensembles A and B) and opening structures (ensembles C, D, and E). As manikin test results showed, the thermal insulation of ensembles A, B and C varied most significantly due to their adjustment design. The possible thermal insulation regulation levels were approximately 68% and 80% for ensembles A and B, and 60% and 90% for ensemble C. Two human trials that simulated students’ daily movements between indoor and outdoor classes were conducted with ensemble A. Two climate chambers were used at the same time for indoor and outdoor environment simulation. In Case X, where ensemble A was assumed to be non-detachable, skin temperatures that were 0.6℃ lower were finally observed compared to Case Y, where ensemble A was detachable. Moreover, significantly ( p  〈  0.1) better thermal comfort and thermal sensation evaluations were given during low-intensity activities in Case Y, especially for the torso segments. The detachable high school uniform design was finally proved to be efficient in improving human thermal comfort under various class environments. It was also concluded that more protective measures should be adopted for the hands and face in the school uniform design process.
