    Abstract: Although the original purpose of the systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) classification criteria was to distinguish SLE from other mimic diseases, and to facilitate sample selection in scientific research, they have become widely used as diagnostic criteria in clinical situations. It is not known yet if regarding classification criteria as diagnostic criteria, what problems might be encountered? This is the first study comparing the three sets of classification criteria for SLE, the 1997 American College of Rheumatology (ACR’97), 2012 Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinics (SLICC’12) and 2019 European League Against Rheumatism/American College of Rheumatology (EULAR/ACR’19), for their ability to distinguish patients with SLE from patients with pure mucocutaneous manifestations (isolated cutaneous lupus erythematosus without internal disease, i-CLE) in the lupus disease spectrum. 1,865 patients with SLE and 232 patients with i-CLE were recruited from a multicenter study. We found that, due to low specificity, none of the three criteria are adept at distinguishing patients with SLE from patients with i-CLE. SLICC’12 performed best among the original three criteria, but if a positive ANA was removed as an entry criterion, EULAR/ACR’19 would performed better. A review of previous studies that compared the three sets of criteria was presented in this work.

    Abstract: Understanding the health and health service utilization of the population is critical for Regional Health System’s (RHS) population health management (PHM) initiatives in Singapore. The RHS database is a collaborative effort toward developing a national architecture for healthcare utilization data across diverse clinical systems with disparate data models. This manuscript describes the setup of an RHS database which would facilitate big data analytics for proactive population health management and health services research. Materials and methods: The RHS database is a conglomeration of four isolated databases from the three RHSs. It contains linked National Healthcare Group (NHG) polyclinic visit records, specialist outpatient clinic visit records, hospital discharge records from Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), National University Hospital (NUH) and Alexandra Hospital (AH), chronic disease management system (CDMS) records and mortality records from local registries. The data linkage process was conducted using the unique identification number (NRIC) as the linking variable. The final anonymized database has multiple interconnected tables that includes patient demographics, chronic disease and healthcare utilization information. Results: Over 2.8 million patients had contact with the three RHSs from 2008 to 2013. The database facilitated risk stratification of patients based on their past healthcare utilization and chronic disease information. This database aids in understanding the cross-utilization of healthcare services across the three RHSs and can help address the challenges of setting up a distinct geographical boundary for individual RHSs. Conclusions: The RHS database has been established with the intention to support the secondary use of administrative health data in health services research and proactive PHM in Singapore.

    Abstract: An efficient procedure for the synthesis of benzoxazoles by the heteroannulation of nitriles and o-aminophenols in the presence of a catalytic amount of copper(II) trifluoromethanesulfonate, has been developed. This method represents a practical and attractive alternative for the synthesis of both 2-arylbenzoxazoles and 2-alkylbenzoxazoles.

    Abstract: Between April 1997 and February 2000, total cavopulmonary connection with an extraatrial tunnel was used to treat 9 cases of complicated congenital heart disease: single ventricle (4), double-outlet right ventricle (3), mitral atresia (1), and tricuspid atresia (1). There was no mortality. One patient developed bacterial endocarditis and required reoperation after 52 days to replace the tunnel. At follow-up ranging from 11 months to 3 years, 3 patients were in New York Heart Association functional class I, and 6 were in class II. One patient with single ventricle had refractory supraventricular tachycardia after a modified Fontan operation 4 years earlier, which was cured by the total cavopulmonary connection procedure. The essential factors for a good outcome include appropriate surgical indication, avoidance of aortic crossclamping and cardiac arrest, and unobstructed anastomosis between the superior and inferior venae cavae and the pulmonary artery.

    Abstract: Superhydrophobic textiles have attracted great interest due to their special functions and wide applications. However, it is still a huge challenge to construct a durable superhydrophobic coating for large-scale applications due to the complicated process and high cost. In this work, a facile two-step method was developed to construct superhydrophobic cotton fabric with fluorine-free treatment. The cotton fabrics were treated with modified nano SiO 2 to construct rough surfaces. Then, the silicone oil was introduced into the surface of the cotton fabric to form superhydrophobic cotton fabric. The results showed that the modified nano SiO 2 and silicone oil were stably fixed on the fiber surface. The static water contact angle test showed that contact angle of the modified cotton fabric was 158°, indicating excellent superhydrophobic properties. Furthermore, the self-cleaning and anti-pollution test results showed that the superhydrophobic cotton fabric possessed good self-cleaning and antifouling performance. This superhydrophobic fabric avoids the use of fluoropolymers and reduces the harm to humans and environment, showing a wide range of applications.

    Abstract: Studies have indicated that the observed association between vitamin D and myopia was confounded by time spent outdoors. This study aimed to elucidate this association using a national cross-sectional dataset. Methods Participants with 12 to 25 years who participated in non-cycloplegic vision exam from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2001 to 2008 were included in the present study. Myopia was defined as spherical equivalent of any eyes ≤ −0.5 diopters (D). Results 7,657 participants were included. The weighted proportion of emmetropes, mild myopia, moderate myopia, and high myopia were 45.5%, 39.1%, 11.6%, and 3.8%, respectively. After adjusting for age, gender, ethnicity, TV/computer usage, and stratified by education attainment, every 10 nmol/L increment of serum 25(OH)D concentration was associated with a reduced risk of myopia (odds ratio [OR] = 0.96, 95% confidence interval [95%CI] 0.93–0.99 for any myopia; OR = 0.96, 95%CI 0.93–1.00 for mild myopia; OR = 0.99, 95%CI 0.97–1.01 for moderate myopia; OR = 0.89, 95%CI 0.84–0.95 for high myopia). Serum 25(OH)D level was closely correlated with time spent outdoors. After categorizing time spent outdoors into quarters (low, low-medium, medium-high, and high), every 1 quarter increment of time spent outdoors was associated with 2.49 nmol/L higher serum 25(OH)D concentration. After adjusting for time spent outdoors, serum 25(OH)D level did not show significant association with myopia (OR = 1.01, 95%CI 0.94–1.06 for 10 nmol/L increment). Conclusions The association between high serum vitamin D and reduced risk of myopia is confounded by longer time spent outdoors. Evidence from the present study does not support that there is a direct association between serum vitamin D level with myopia.

    Abstract: This article considers finite-time bounded controller design for one-sided Lipschitz nonlinear differential inclusions. Sufficient conditions of finite-time bounded criterion are given employing convex hull Lyapunov function approach. An algorithm is designed to calculate the finite-time bounded controller. Moreover, a system initial state selection method is presented to find the domain of system initial state aid for transforming quasi-linear matrix inequality–based conditions to linear matrix inequality-based conditions. Finally, a numerical example and a comparison experiment example are given to illustrate the effectiveness of this proposed design method.

    Abstract: A prediction method for the ultimate load of composite corrugated sandwich structures (CCSS) was established based on the dimension-reduction method and Chebyshev polynomial. First, an ultimate load response function of the CCSS was reduced in dimension on basis of the univariate method. The original response function was converted to the sum of univariate functions of all random variables. Chebyshev polynomial was used to fit all univariate functions, and the univariate Chebyshev approximate model (UCAM) of the response function was obtained. Second, the fitting accuracy of the UCAM was analytically compared with the Kriging model, radial basis function, and response surface methodology. Finally, the effect of the order on the fitting accuracy of UCAM was studied. The UCAM has higher fitting accuracy and calculation efficiency compared with the other three approximate models. When the order of UCAM is lower than ninth-order, the larger the order, the higher the fitting accuracy. And the order and the fitting accuracy are no longer positively correlated when the order exceeds ninth-order. The order is recommended to choose an odd-order when using UCAM to solve the uncertainty problem.

    Abstract: The first-line clinical strategy for small cartilage/osteochondral defects is microfracture (MF). However, its repair efficacy needs improvement. Hypothesis: Appropriate energy radial shockwave stimulation in MF holes would greatly improve repair efficacy in the porcine osteochondral defect model, and it may obtain comparable performance with common tissue engineering techniques. Study Design: Controlled laboratory study. Methods: Osteochondral defect models (8-mm diameter, 3-mm depth) were established in the weightbearing area of Bama pigs’ medial femoral condyles. In total, 25 minipigs were randomly divided into 5 groups: control (Con; without treatment), MF, MF augmentation (MF+; treated with appropriate energy radial shockwave stimulation in MF holes after MF), tissue engineering (TE; treated with compounds of microcarrier and bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells), and sham (as the positive control). After 3 months of intervention, osteochondral specimens were harvested for macroscopic, radiological, biomechanical, and histological evaluations. The statistical data were analyzed using 1-way analysis of variance. Results: Based on the macroscopic appearance, the smoothness and integration of the repaired tissue in the MF+ group were improved when compared with the Con and MF groups. The histological staining suggested more abundant cartilaginous matrix deposition in the MF+ group versus the Con and MF groups. The general scores of the macroscopic and histological appearances were comparable in the MF+ and the TE groups. The high signal areas of the osteochondral unit in the magnetic resonance images were significantly decreased in the MF+ group, with no difference with the TE group. The micro–computed tomography data demonstrated the safety of direct in situ radial shockwave performance. Biomechanical tests revealed that the repaired tissue’s Young modulus was highest in the MF+ group and not statistically different from that in the TE group. Conclusion: Direct in situ radial shockwave stimulation with appropriate energy significantly improves the short-term repair efficacy of MF. More encouragingly, the MF+ group in our study obtained repair performance comparable with the TE therapy. Clinical Relevance: This strategy is easy to perform and can readily be generalized with safety and higher cartilage repair efficacy. Moreover, it is expected to be accomplished under arthroscopy, indicating tremendous clinical transformative value.
