Abstract: Marine debris is a prevalent problem that affects oceans and coastal regions worldwide, particularly beaches. The problem of marine litter pollution is also severe on beaches in Nha Trang. In this study, marine debris with a size ≥ 5 mm was collected at seven locations along the coastline of Nha Trang during both dry and rainy seasons, accruing a total of 4436 items. During the rainy season, most beaches had more debris than that in the dry season, and marine debris density ranged between 0.009 items/m2 to 0.418 items/m2. Results from the beach cleanliness index (CCI) assessment showed that CCI values ranged from 0.2 to 4.4 during the dry season, with beaches classified as either very clean or clean. Meanwhile, during the rainy season, CCI values ranged from 0.36 to 8.35, resulting in beaches being categorized as very clean, clean, or average. The Plastic Abundance Index (PAI) showed that the PAI ranged from 0.004 to 0.061 during the dry season, while during the rainy season, it ranged from 0.006 to 0.118. PAI values for both seasons indicated low levels of plastic debris distribution on the beaches. However, local authorities and managers need to pay attention to potential sources of pollution, such as waste from food service activities in restaurants, ports and unsustainable waste from aquaculture activities.

Abstract: Marine debris assessment gives information about their quantity, type, and composition, which provides data to help with their management and control. The authors conducted two surveys at three beaches at Sam Son, Hai Tien, Hai Hoa) in Thanh Hoa province in March 2020 and July 2020, respectively, during an inactive and active tourism period. A total of 3,803 waste units were collected for assessment, of which plastic waste accounts for more than 98%. The density of marine debris at the idle time of tourism ranged from 0.25–1.21 items/m2. But the active tourist season recorded from 0.52–1.4 items/m2. According to the Clean Coast Index (CCI), the cleanliness of beaches was grade from average clean (i.e., Hai Tien) to filthy (i.e., Hai Hoa). The plastic debris present at these beaches was mainly porous waste derived from fishing boats and food preservation foam boxes. The results also showed that the marine debris was composed of 77% polystyrene (PS), 17% polypropylene (PP) and 6% high-density polyethylene (HDPE). The water parameters were lower than the critical values during the study period according to the QCVN 10-MT:2015/BTNMT for both periods, which indicated the coastal water quality was still suitable for recreational activities.

Abstract: With the preeminent features of polyurethane (PU) panels such as sound insulation, heat insulation, fireproof, high load capacity, lightweight, high aesthetics, especially using simple and easy assembly construction and move, so new PU panel is now the first choice for construction projects. In this work, the authors study the new generation physical foaming agent cyclopentane that is environmentally friendly and completely does not destroy the ozone layer. Study investigating and evaluating the effect of content of physical foam cyclopentane on free expansion density, reaction time of rigid polyurethane foam (R-PUF), and reaction time values (cream time, gel time, tack-free time, and rise time). The morphology and size of the closed-cell of the R-PUF samples with cyclopentane concentrations increasing from 0% to 20% are observed by the optical microscope image and the closed-cell size distribution chart is determined by IT3 software. In addition, the physical and mechanical properties of dimensional stability and compressive strength were analyzed to evaluate the quality of the expanded R-PUF insulation in the mold using a cyclopentane physical foaming agent. Experimental procedures according to Taguchi's analysis on the continuous production line are aimed at giving optimal parameters for the industrial PU panel manufacturing process. The research results provide an excellent reference value for manufacturers to further improve the performance and quality of PU panels.

Abstract: Bacillus genus are Gram-positive, rod shaped, spore-forming, aerobic or facultative anaerobic bacteria, which have the ability to produce a wide variety of enzymes, antimicrobial compounds, vitamins, and carotenoids. Nowadays, Bacillus species have been increasingly proposed for use as probiotics or feed additives as B. amyloliquefaciens, B. licheniformis, B. subtilis, and B. pumilus because of their advantages such as heat-stability of the spores, storage capacity at ambient temperature, and beneficial properties for health. Since microbes are used for customers and livestock, it is critical to substantiate not only the health benefits and efficacy of unique strains but also their safety for the hosts. This study aims to evaluate the in vitro safety and some beneficial properties of Bacillus strains to select potential strains for use in humans or animals. A total of 76 Bacillus strains belonged to the B. amyloliquefaciens and B. subtilis groups were preliminary evaluated for their safety via hemolytic activity. Six non-hemolytic strains were identified and their antibiotic susceptibility, cytotoxicity on the growth of HT29 and Vero cells, extracellular enzyme production, antimicrobial activity, and identification based on 16S rRNA and rpoB gene sequences were studied. Two strains, B. subtilis VTCC 10963 and B. subtilis VTCC 11039, should be considered safe. In addition, these two strains exhibited good extracellular enzyme production (amylase, cellulase, and protease) and strong antibacterial activity against Listeria monocytogenes. Our results support the use of B. subtilis VTCC 10963 and B. subtilis VTCC 11039 for the development of probiotic products and feed additives in the future.

Abstract: The method of first integrals (MFI) based on the equation of motion for the displacement vector, or  based on the one for the traction vector was introduced  recently in order to find explicit secular equations of Rayleigh waves whose characteristic equations (i.e the equations determining the attenuation factor) are fully quartic or are of higher order (then the classical approach is not applicable). In this paper it is shown that, not only to Rayleigh waves,  the MFI can be applicable also to other waves by running it on the equations for mixed vectors. In particular: (i) By applying the MFI  to the equations for the displacement-traction vector we get the explicit dispersion equations of Stoneley waves in twinned crystals (ii)  Running the MFI on the equations for the traction-electric induction vector and the traction-electrical potential vector provides the explicit dispersion equations of SH-waves in piezoelastic materials. The obtained dispersion equations are identical with the ones previously derived using the method of polarization vector, but the procedure of driving them is more simple.

Abstract: Panax vietnamensis Ha et Grushv., naturally distributed in Ngoc Linh Mountain, is an endemic Panax species of Vietnam. For centuries, P. vietnamensis has been used in traditional folk medicine to treat many serious diseases or enhance physical strength. Ginsenosides are responsible for most of the medicinal effects of the Panax species. Acetoacetyl-CoA thiolase (AACT) is considered as an important enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of ginsenoside. In this study, a full-length cDNA of the gene encoding AACT protein (GeneBank accession number MZ272018) was obtained from P. vietnamensis using reverse transcription PCR. The gene open reading frame (1224 bp) encodes 408 amino acids. This cDNA sequence is 99.08% similar to the cDNA sequence of Panax notoginseng (KJ804173.1). The functional analysis of its protein by InterPro showed that the structure of AACT monomer consists of three domains, including thiolase-like domain (17-285), N-terminal (18-276), and C-terminal (286-406). Although there were some differences in the nucleotide sequence of the AACT cDNA gene between P. vietnamensis and the reference species, all important domains and sites related to the thiolase activity were observed. Phylogenetic analysis using AACT cDNA gene sequence revealed a close relationship of P. vietnamensis with P. notoginseng and Trachyspemum ammi. The quantitative real-time PCR results indicated the expression of AACT gene of P. vietnamensis depended on types of tissue and plant developmental stages (1, 4, 6 and 11 years old). The gene was expressed at higher levels in roots than in leaves and the highest expression of AACT gene was detected in the 11-year-old roots. The results provided valuable information for further studies on the biosynthesis of ginsenoside in P. vietnamensis in particular and Panax species in general.

Abstract: Pelodiscus sinensis is a widespread species of soft-shelled turtle that is commercially cultured in freshwater and prominently exploited as speciality food in Vietnam. During the cultivation, there are distinctly recurrent epidemic diseases causing economically vast damage for farmers. In this research, we carried out the isolation of microorganisms from typical ulcers “ba dau” presenting on soft-shelled turtle taken in Nam Dinh farm. The samples were inoculated on common media used for bacteria, actinomyces, fungus and yeast. Only bacteria grew on typical culture medium. Fifteen bacterial strains were isolated and identified by 16S rRNA sequence analysis. They were belonged to genera such as Acidovorax (n=1), Acinetobacter (n=1), Aeromonas (n=8), Citrobacter (n=1), Chryseobacterium (n=1), Moraxella (n=1), Paludibacterium (n=1) and Parabacteroides (n=1).  In which, eight strains Aeromonas spp. were selected for further research on virulence characterization. PCR results showed that these strains possessed at least 4/7 virulence genes including aer (75%), alt (37.5%), ast (50%), ela (87.5%), exu ( 100%), hlyA (37.5%) and ser (100%). With additional tests, we confirmed the virulent expression by haemolysin (100%), protease (75%), DNAase (75%), elastase (25%) and cytotoxicity (62.5%). These results are scientific basis to establish and develop practical methods for controlling and preventing "ba dau" disease in the soft-shelled turtle in the future.

Abstract: In this work, X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) of bcc crystals and it Fourier transformmagnitude have been studied based on the anharmonic correlated Debye model high-order expandedDebye-Waller factors. The many-body effects are taken into account in the present one-dimensionalmodel based on the anharmonic effective potential that includes interactions of absorber andbackscatterer atoms with their first shell near neighbors, where Morse potential is assumed to describethe single-pair atomic interaction. Analytical expressions of four first temperature-dependent cumulantsof bcc crystals have been derived using the many-body perturbation approach. The obtained cumulantsare applied to calculating XAFS spectra and their Fourier transform magnitudes. Numerical results forFe are found to be in good agreement with experiment.
