Abstract: The spreading of the East Vietnam Sea (EVS, also known as Bien Dong, or the South China Sea), leading to the occurrence of syn-spreading (33-16 Ma) and post-spreading ( 〈 16 to present) volcanism. Syn-spreading magma making up thick layers of tholeiitic basalt with a geochemical composition close to the refractory and depleted mid-ocean ridge basalt (MORB) is mainly distributed inside the EVS basin. The post-spreading magma is widely distributed inside the basin and extended to South and SE China, Hainan island, Southern Laos (Bolaven), Khorat Plateau (Thailand), and Vietnam, showing the typical intraplate geochemistry. Basaltic samples were collected at many places in Indochina countries, Vietnam’s coastal and continental shelf areas, to analyze for eruption age, petrographical, geochemical, and isotopic composition to understand the similarities and differences in the mantle sources between regions. The results reveal that basalts from some areas show geochemical features suggesting they were derived subsequently by spinel peridotite and garnet peridotite melting, forming high-Si, low-Mg, and low-Ti tholeiitic basalt to low-Si, high-Mg, and high-Ti alkaline basalt with the trace element enrichment increasing over time. Other basalts have geochemical and isotopic characteristics unchanged over a long period. The post-spreading basalt’s radiogenic Sr-Nd-Hf-Pb isotopic compositions show different regional basalts distribute in the various fields regardless of eruption age, suggesting that their mantle source feature is space-dependent. The post-EVS spreading basalts expose the regional heterogeneity, reflecting the mixture of at least three components, including a depleted mantle (DM) represented by the syn-EVS spreading source, similar to the DUPAL-bearing Indian MORB source; an enriched mantle type 1 (EM1), and type 2 (EM2). The DM may interact and acquire either EM1 or EM2 in the sub-continental lithospheric mantle; as a result, different eruption at different area acquires distinct isotopic signature, reflecting the heterogeneous nature of the subcontinental lithospheric mantle. The study proposes a suitable mantle dynamic model that explains the EVS spreading kinematics and induced volcanism following the India - Eurasian collision from the Eocene based on the research outcomes.

Abstract: S-triazine derivatives are known to have great potential in diversifying the structural design of polymer materials due to the stepwise reaction of cyanuric chloride, particularly in optoelectronic applications. In addition, the hydrogen bonds formed by the triazine ring are known to play an important role in molecular arrangement, providing triazine-based polymer materials with excellent mechanical properties. In the present work, a triazine-furan precursor will be combined with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and polyoxypropylenediamine to create a novel polymer that bears furfuryl side groups. This polymer has great potential to be used for self-healing applications due to the reversibility of triazine π-π stacking and hydrogen bonding as well as the ability of the furfuryl group to form dynamic covalent bonds. Thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) was used to investigate the reaction conditions (GPC). The research of this reaction revealed that the best conditions for the synthesis of this copolymer were at a temperature of 110 oC for 24 hours and determined an average molecular weight (Mn) of around 19800 (g/mol). Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) are used to determine the structure of the synthesized compounds. Besides that, from the 1H-NMR spectrum NMR was found that feeding molar of 21.32/1/19.50 for TF, PDMS, and Jeffamine, respectively.

Abstract: . Polyurethanes (PU) are one of the most studied materials due to their high mechanical performance, flexibility and shape-memory ability. When compared to other homopolymer elastomers, polyurethane displays superior toughness and tear resistance due to the inhomogeneity of its microstructural composition. When both soft and hard segments are used in conjunction, it is possible for the elastic matrix to achieve the appropriate modulus and deformation ability by varying the ratio between them. In this article, novel polyurethane materials with pendant stearyl side chains having shape-memory characteristics were synthesized by the UV-light curing process for the first time. The influence of the amount of cross-linkers produced during the polymerizations between aliphatic urethane acrylate (aUA) and stearyl acrylate (SA) under UV light treatment using 2,2-dimethoxyl-2-phenyl acetophenone (DMPA) as photoinitator was investigated. The goal of this research is to combine mechanical strength with sharp memory capabilities in polymeric materials using the above–mentioned unique PU network structure design. The shape recovery rate (Rr), shape retention rate (Rf), tensile strength deformation and reflection-Fourier transform infrared (ATR, FT-IR) were used for characterizing the synthesized materials. The results indicated that a sufficient quantity of SA in the structure (30 wt.%) lead to a nearly 100 percent improvement in shape recovery capacity but slightly decreased the mechanical characteristics of the materials.

Abstract: We apply the coherent potential approximation to study the three-component Falicov - Kimball model, in which single-component and two-component fermionic particles are mixed in an optical lattice. In the model, the heavy single-component fermionic particles are localized while the light two-component fermionic particles can hop in the lattice. At half-filling, two transitions from an insulator via a metallic state to a Mott insulator are found with increasing the particle correlations. By contrast, at third-filling, only one transition from the metallic state to the Mott insulating phase is observed for strong repulsive interactions. Our results are consistent with those obtained by the dynamical mean field theory as well as by the slave boson mean field approach.

Abstract: The biological macrofouling characteristics and electrochemical corrosion behavior of structural steel AH36 in natural seawater were studied continuously for 12 months at Hon Tre Island, Nha Trang – Vietnam. Electrochemical corrosion properties were studied using a PPGS-HHMC12 multi-channel device produced by the Institute of Chemistry, VAST. Tests were conducted at depths of 0.6 m, 1.8 m, and 3.0 m; under anti-macrofouling control, rotary movement, and under laboratory conditions as a comparison option. The results showed that macro-fouling formed and grew rapidly in both quantity, size and biomass in the next 3 months, then slowly and stably increased to about 8 months (6.06 kg.m-2). The OCP shifted to a positive potential, then reached a stable value of about -550 mV during the rest of exposure time. The corrosion current density decreased sharply from the first month to the fourth month, then reached a stable value of about 10 µA.cm-2 in next months of testing. The corrosion rate of AH36 steel in natural seawater in the field was higer than that under laboratory condition, which could be explained by the interaction of many factors such as dissolved oxygen, biofouling, water current, solar radiation

Abstract: During the joint Russian-Vietnamese studies in the East Vietnam Sea (known as Bien Dong or the South China Sea), manifestations of new hydrocarbon-accumulating zones were discovered; evidences of the presence of mineral indicators for solid minerals in shelf deposits were obtained; a unique zone, where accumulations of ferromanganese crusts and nodules have been formed, was revealed for the first time; evidence of unique properties of deep-water fine-dispersed carbonate sediments (which makes it possible to attribute them to an independent type of mineral resources of the East Vietnam Sea) were obtained; the ikaite mineral (that serves as an indicator of methane migration zones and cold marine paleo-conditions) was discovered in the Phu Khanh basin; heavy concentrates with indicators of rare forms of ore mineralization were collected; features of methane and mercury fluxes into the atmosphere, cultures of methane-oxidizing, oil-oxidizing and sulfate-reducing bacteria were registered for the first time within the study areas. New data on gravity and magnetic field anomalies along the shelf and slope of Vietnam have been obtained. The article presents the results of coastal geophysical and gasgeochemical research obtained in 2010–2020 within the Joint Russian-Vietnamese Laboratory for Marine Geosciences (POI FEB RAS - IMGG VAST). For the first time, anomalous methane fields (comparable to anomalies on the oil- and gas-bearing shelf and the gas hydrate-bearing slope of Sakhalin Island) were registered in the water column. The gravimagnetic survey was carried out on the central and southern shelf and the continental slope of Vietnam; the executed works supplemented the geophysical data, which had been obtained in the 80s–90s of the preceding century. The paper contributes to the Russia-Vietnamese program within the UN Decade of Ocean Sciences for Sustainable Development framework.

Abstract: Basing on the structural and tectonophysic analysis of data collected from outcrops around Tonkin Gulf and the results of analysis of seismic setions of the Red river basin, the fourmain successivetectonic phases with specific paleostress fields since beginning of Cenozoic era have been established. The first middle Eocene-early Miocene (45-15.97 my) tectonic phase, with sub-latitudinal compression and sub-longitudinal extension, was accompanied by large scale sinistral displacement of the Red river fault, the extension centers of the Red river basin andseafloor spreading of East Vietnam Sea. The second middle-late of middle Miocene (13, 82-7, 25 my) tectonic phase, with sub-longitudinal compression and sub-latitudinal extension, has created a local depocenter N-S orientation; right-lateral strike slip of the Red river fault and first inversion of the basin. The third late Miocene (~7.25-5.33 my BP) tectonic phase, with NE-SWcompression, has caused strongest inversion in the Red river basin with strong uplift of some blocks and significant shrinkage of the RRB up to 15–20%. The fourth Quaternary-to-Recent tectonic phase, with NW-SE compression and NE-SW extension, is appeared in form of existing of the recent grabens of NW-SE direction, earthquakes and GPS data. Formation and development of the Red river basin was controlled by the tectonic activities and closely connected to NW-SE trending fault system of regional scale such as the Red river fault, Chay river fault, Lo river faults as well the local faults such as Ca river fault, Rao Nay river fault, Thakhek-Da Nang fault. Some spectacular examples for tectonic activity can be seen in form of geographic features of Vietnam, Laos and Thailand, in particular the mountain ranges, such as Truong Son (or Viet-Laos) belt. The Red river fault when comes to the sea becomes less active, while the other faults of the RRFS like Chay river and Lo river had played the main role in development of the Red river basin.

Abstract: Melatonin functions as a plant growth regulator, has diverse functions and plays an important role in ripening and fruit senescence. In the current study, we investigated the effect of exogenous melatonin (0.1 mM and 0.5 mM) on reactive oxygen species (ROS) metabolism, membrane lipid peroxidation and antioxidant enzyme activity of avocado (Persea americana Mill. cv. 034) during fruit ripening at 22oC ± 1 and 75-80% relative humidity (RH). The results showed that postharvest fruits treated with 0.5 mM melatonin effectively reduced the accumulation of superoxide anion (O2.), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in the mesocarp of the fruit. In addition, melatonin treatment also significantly promoted the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD) and catalase (CAT) in avocado. It is suggested that enhanced antioxidant enzyme activity induced by melatonin treatment may contribute to scavenge ROS and alleviating membrane lipid peroxidation in avocado fruit. The results indicate that the MT application might collectively contribute to the delay senescence and maintain postharvest quality of avocado.

Abstract: 2’-Hydroxychalcones and murrayafoline A, a natural compounds isolated from Glycomis stenocarpa, have been reported to have the promising anti-cancer activity. In this study, a series of 2'-hydroxychalcones containing murrayafoline A (MuA) 6a-f were achieved by Claisen-Schmidt condensation of the key intermediate 5'-(1-methoxy-3-methyl-carbazolyl)methyl-2'-hydroxyacetophenone 4 with various aldehydes 5a-f with purpose of combining activity of two precusors. Their structures were determined by NMR and MS spectral data. Screening for cytotoxicity of compounds showed that compounds 6a-6d expressed cytotoxic activity, notably compound 6a displayed activity against all tested cell lines LU-1, Hep-G2, MCF-7, P338, and SW480 with the IC50 values ranging from 23.97 to 80.19 μg/mL. Clearly, the substitution at position of N-H group of murrayafoline a led to a decline in the cytotoxicity of the obtained derivatives. This finding suggests the presence of the N-H group might be play a crucial role for the cytotoxicity of the murrayafoline A derivatives.
