Kurzfassung: In today’s wheat production, the trends focused on the revival, selection and implementation of forgotten regional grain crops, the so-called "antique" cereals, have been clearly identified. One of these is the ancient hexaploid species of wheat – spelt (Triticum spelta). One of the main reasons that have contributed to the revival of this type of wheat in recent years is its tolerance to growing conditions and capacity to endure the natural and climatic factors of the environment, which allows it to be grown without an excessive use of plant protection products. It is precisely because of this feature that hulled wheat is referred to as "environmentally friendly”. Spelt is capable of yielding stable crops without strict adherence to the production technology and may be a great alternative to soft wheat. The growth in demand for this crop is also due to a complex of economic and valuable traits inherited from its wild ancestors. This review analyzes and summarizes the information about the origin of spelt, presents biological characteristics, discusses the perspectives for using the species in breeding work when implementing interspecific hybridization and compares the structure and genome evolution. The achievements on the revival of spelt as an independent species and its use as a source of economic and valuable traits in breeding programs of crosses with soft wheat are highlighted, examples of successful use of the economic and valuable traits of spelt for the improvement and creation of new high-quality wheat varieties are presented. Data on this superiority of grain from this species over that of genetically close wheat species are presented. The varietals’ characteristics for spelt varieties of Ukrainian selection are given. Such important spelt characteristics as resistance to biotic and abiotic stressors, high quality grain composition and yield have been analyzed.

Kurzfassung: Probiotics based on bacteria of the genus Bacillus with a multifactorial mechanism of action are considered as a possible alternative to antibiotics in the treatment of purulent wounds. The aim of the study was to determine the antimicrobial and therapeutic effect of the Arederma probiotic preparation containing probiotic strains of the genus Bacillus in an experimental model of a purulent wound in animals. The antimicrobial efficacy of the probiotic against test strains and clinical isolates of pathogenic and opportunistic microorganisms was studied using the method of delayed antagonism. Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538 and Streptococcus pyogenes K-7 were used to model a purulent wound. From the surface of the wounds, bacteria of Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas genera and Enterobacteriaceae family were sown on appropriate selective media for the cultivation and enumeration of different groups of microorganisms by generally accepted microbiological research methods. The formation of a purulent wound in rabbits caused by mechanical skin damage and subsequent double infection with Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538 and Streptococcus pyogenes K-7 strains was accompanied with a pronounced inflammatory process, necrosis, the formation of purulent exudate and general intoxication. Representatives of the genera Staphylococcus and Streptococcus, microscopic fungi and, to a lesser extent, members of the family Enterobacteriaceae and Pseudomonas were found on the surface of purulent wounds, which confirmed the development of the infectious-inflammatory process. Treatment of purulent wounds with a suspension of probiotic preparation once a day for 4 days led to their faster healing (gradual attenuation of the inflammatory process, reduction of edema and discharge, as well as their disappearance) compared with untreated purulent wounds (control). Representatives of the Staphylococcus and Streptococcus genera, as well as microscopic fungi, presented in purulent wounds treated with probiotic preparation in much smaller numbers than in the control, and bacteria of the Pseudomonas genus and the Enterobacteriaceae family were not detected at all. The effective antimicrobial effect of this probiotic preparation against opportunistic and pathogenic microorganisms was confirmed by in vitro studies. Therefore, the Arederma probiotic preparation showed an effective therapeutic and antimicrobial effect in the experimental model of a purulent wound in animals, so it can be recommended for further preclinical and clinical studies.

Kurzfassung: The objective of the study was determining the prophylactic effect of Lactobacillus casei IMV B-7280, L. acidophilus IMV B-7279, L. delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus IMV B-7281, Bifidobacterium animalis VKL and B. animalis VKB probiotic strains on experimental vaginitis in BALB/c mice induced by Staphylococcus aureus 8325-4. The infection with S. aureus 8325-4 caused an imbalance of microbiota in the vagina and intestine, as evidenced by an increase in the number of opportunistic microorganisms and a decrease in the amount of lactobacilli and bifidobacteria. L. casei IMV B-7280, B. animalis VKL and B. animalis VKB probiotic strains altered the microbiota spectrum of the vagina and intestine of Staphylococcus-infected mice: the amount of Lactobacillus and bifidobacteria increased with the reduction of the number of opportunistic microorganisms. Also under the influence of these strains, the normalization of the microbiota spectrum typical for vagina and intestine was observed in different periods of observation – in the intestines of mice the number of coliform bacteria increased, the number of microscopic fungi, streptococci and staphylococci decreased; in the vagina, the number of coliform bacteria and microscopic fungi decreased, the number of streptococci normalized. Rapid elimination of S. aureus 8325-4 from the vagina and prevention of the spread of infection to the intestine were observed after use of probiotics. Preventive effect of L. acidophilus IMV B-7279 and L. delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus IMV B-7281 for bacterial vaginitis in mice was less effective. So, the target probiotic strains L. casei IMV B-7280, B. animalis VKL and B. animalis VKB are promising for the creation of highly effective novel probiotic drugs that can be used for directed prevention of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the genitourinary system caused by pathogenic and opportunistic microorganisms.

Kurzfassung: 〈 p 〉 We studied the peculiarities of growth, localization and dynamics of lipoxygenase activity in sporophyte organs of wild fern 〈 em 〉 Dryopteris filix-mas 〈 /em 〉 (L.) Schott at various stages: intensive growth; sori ripening; spore release; summer vegetation, and vegetation termination. Morphometric analysis showed that the weight of one plant during sporophyte ontogenesis varied from 130 to 150 g. Frond length varied from 11 to 85 cm. Diameter of the overground part of rhizome was 9-10 cm. In the stage of spore release and during the summer vegetation we mentioned 7 fronds on plant, and in the phase of vegetation termination – 18. The plants had the biggest weight in phase of spore release. Following spore release and at the beginning of vegetation termination, the frond weight diminished almost by two times. An intensive elongation of fronds was observed prior to the start of spore release. When fronds unfold and grow the number of segments of the first order increase from 39 to 47 pairs. Frond length in the stage of summer vegetation increased from 4.3 to 11.2 cm (9 pairs), and then it gradually decreased from 10.2 to 0.1 cm (39 pairs) that resulted in the formation of a lanceolate lamina. In the stage of vegetation termination, the fern had 18 fronds, 12 of which remained green, while the rest dried and turned greyish-brown. The frond lamina contained 47 pairs of segments of the first order whose length increased from 4.5 to 10.5 cm, and then it diminished from 9.5 to 0.05 cm. The rhizome weight was in the range of 110.2–115.7 g in all the stages except vegetation termination. The morphological analysis showed that plants had successfully passed all developmental phases, reached their normal dimensions, had a mass spore formation, no external signs of suppression and damages, and this was generally consistent with the highest level of life state assessment. Localization and dynamics of lipoxygenase (LOX) activity in organs of the sporophyte of 〈 em 〉 D. filix-mas 〈 /em 〉 have been studied. We registered that fronds contained 13-LOX with рН 〈 sub 〉 opt. 〈 /sub 〉 values of 7.2, rhizomes – 9-LOX (рН 〈 sub 〉 opt. 〈 /sub 〉 6.5). Peculiarities that were mentioned in localization and dynamics of LOX isoforms catalytic activity in the fern organs at various phases of development suggest that the enzyme might be involved in the regulation of lipid metabolism of growth processes that ensure plant adaptation to the environment.  〈 /p 〉 〈 p 〉   〈 /p 〉

Kurzfassung: The purpose of the present study is to identify breeding and genetic peculiarities for productive tillering in spring barley genotypes of different origin, purposes of usage and botanical affiliation, as well as to identify effective genetic sources to further improving of the trait. There were created two complete (6 × 6) diallel crossing schemes. Into the Scheme I elite Ukrainian (MIP Tytul and Avhur) and Western European (Datcha, Quench, Gladys, and Beatrix) malting spring barley varieties were involved. Scheme II included awnless covered barley varieties Kozyr and Vitrazh bred at the Plant Production Institute named after V. Y. Yuriev of NAAS of Ukraine, naked barley varieties Condor and CDC Rattan from Canada, as well as awned feed barley variety MIP Myroslav created at MIW and malting barley variety Sebastian from Denmark. For more reliable and informative characterization of barley varieties and their progeny for productive tillering in terms of inheritance, parameters of genetic variation and general combining ability (GCA) statistical analyses of experimental data from different (2019 and 2020) growing seasons were conducted. Accordingly to the indicator of phenotypic dominance all possible modes of inheritance were detected, except for negative dominance in the Scheme I in 2020. The degree of phenotypic dominance significantly varied depending on both varieties involved in crossing schemes and conditions of the years of trials. There was overdominance in loci in both schemes in both years. The other parameters of genetic variation showed significant differences in gene action for productive tillering between crossing Schemes. In Scheme I in both years the dominance was mainly unidirectional and due to dominant effects. In the Scheme II in both years there was multidirectional dominance. In Scheme I compliance with the additive-dominant system was revealed in 2019, but in 2020 there was a strong epistasis. In Scheme II in both years non-allelic interaction was identified. In general, the mode of gene action showed a very complex gene action for productive tillering in barley and a significant role of non-genetic factors in phenotypic manifestation of the trait. Despite this, the level of heritability in the narrow sense in both Schemes pointed to the possibility of the successful selection of individuals with genetically determined increased productive tillering in the splitting generations. In Scheme I the final selection for productive tillering will be more effective in later generations, when dominant alleles become homozygous. In Scheme II it is theoretically possible to select plants with high productive tillering on both recessive and dominant basis. In both schemes the non-allelic interaction should be taken into consideration. Spring barley varieties Beatrix, Datcha, MIP Myroslav and Kozyr can be used as effective genetic sources for involvement in crossings aimed at improving the productive tillering. The results of present study contribute to further development of studies devoted to evaluation of gene action for yield-related traits in spring barley, as well as identification of new genetic sources for plant improvement.
