Notes: [Auszug] THE performance of atomic and molecular JL frequency standards has been the subject of intense studies for several years1-3. In particular, tests have been made with a commercial caesium beam frequency standard4 ('Atomichron') under various environmental conditions. The 'Atomichron' employs a ...

Notes: [Auszug] The method of measurement of enzyme activity was adapted to optimum conditions. The conversion of mannose-6-phosphate proceeds linearly with time until about 50 per cent of the substrate has been isomerized. There is also a linear dependence on enzyme concentration up to 80 fzl. lysed red cells per ...

Notes: Abstract Block copolymers of polystyrene and poly(dimethylsiloxane) or of polybutadiene and poly(dimethylsiloxane) with nonhydrolyzably bound 2-hydroxybenzophenone and 2,6-di-tert-butylphenol residues were prepared by terminating the “living” block copolymers with glacial acetic acid to form siloxanol end groups, followed by condensation with diethoxysilyl derivatives of the stabilizers in the presence of dibutyltin dilaurate. The polymeric UV absorbers were proved to be nonextractable from polystyrene. At Xenotest aging (40°C) the polymeric UV absorbers were less effective than 2-hydroxy-4-octyloxybenzophenone. The polymeric antioxidants were superior to antioxidants of low molecular weight both in thermooxidative aging of vulcanized polybutadiene films at 70°C and in oxygen-uptake studies with stabilized polypropylene at 180°C over long periods.

Notes: Abstract A partial integro-differential equation is formulated for the Wigner transform of the quantum mechanical reduced density operator describing the time evolution of a “macroscopic” coordinate under the influence of coupling to a large number of “intrinsic” degrees of freedom. The equation contains integral operators which lead to energy dissipation and diffusion and reduces to a transport equation of the Fokker-Planck type if the form factors in the integrands are treated in appropriate (harmonic) approximations. The stationary solution of the partial integro-differential equation is obtained numerically for scattering by a conservative potential and by a dissipative and diffusive scattering centre in one spatial dimension.

Notes: Abstract Fragments from thermal fission of U235 have been slowed down in purified Ar and N2. Ionization by reactor radiation produced sufficient free electrons in the gas to permit formation of negative fission product ions by electron attachment. These negative ions were collected in an ionization chamber. Theγ-radiation of the activated electrode showed that mainly J and Te had been collected. By analysis of theγ-spectra the independent fission yieldsη(J135)=(4,6±1,1)% andη(Te135)=(1,5±1,1)% were found. In the derivation of this result an estimated valueη(Te134)=(6±0,7)% was used.

Notes: Abstract To discover the reasons for the failure in the performance of a neutron interferometer with a Fresnel biprism, proposed by Maier-Leibnitz and Springer, the experiments were repeated with a simple diffraction apparatus. We found that the distortion of the diffraction pattern only arises in incorrect adjustment of the probes or in bad probe edges. There is therefore no reason to introduce a special coherent inelastic scattering mechanism into theory as suggested by Landkammer. It is shown that the biprism can be advantageously substituted by a quartz thread surrounded by a D2O—H2O mixture.
