Abstract:
The objective of the study is to evaluate the antifungal ability against wood harmful fungi (in vitro), of three active compounds: preventol, α-bromo-cinnamaldehyde (α-BCA), copper sulfate, and to evaluate the synergistic effect of a formulation AM-QS containing a mixture of these 3 compounds. As a single substance, preventol (1 mg/l) inhibited 90% of the fungal diameter and reached complete inhibition of the growth of fungal strains at the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 5 mg/l. For α-BCA, the fungal colony diameter decreased by 93.5% at a concentration of 10 mg/l, and the MIC value was determined to be 20 mg/l. With copper sulfate, colony diameter was reduced by 94.9% at 10 mg/l and the MIC was 20 mg/l. In combination form, the AM-QS completely inhibited the growth of fungal strains at concentrations of 2% equivalent to 0.1 mg/l (preventol), 0.4 mg/l(α-BCA), and 0.4 mg/l (copper sulfate). Thus, the synergistic antifungal effect of AM-QS preparation with the concentration of each substance used is reduced by 50 times compared to when tested with every single substance. Applying a combination of single antifungal substances could help to increase the effectiveness of protecting wooden objects or materials derived from wood.
