Abstract: A Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, motile, facultatively anaerobic bacterium, designated strain MJ06 T , was isolated from oil-contaminated soil and was characterized taxonomically by using a polyphasic approach. Strain MJ06 T contained ubiquinone Q-8 as the major respiratory lipoquinone, putrescine as the predominant polyamine and phosphatidylethanolamine, diphosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylglycerol as major polar lipids. The G+C content of the genomic DNA of strain MJ06 T was 66.2 mol%. The major fatty acids were summed feature 4 (C 16 : 1 ω 7 c and/or iso-C 15 : 0 2-OH; 32.5 %), C 16 : 0 (22.8 %) and summed feature 7 (one or more of C 18 : 1 ω 7 c , C 18 : 1 ω 9 t and C 18 : 1 ω 12 t ; 14.9 %). Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that strain MJ06 T belonged to the family Alcaligenaceae , class Betaproteobacteria , and joined the evolutionary radiation enclosed by the genus Castellaniella . Levels of 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity between strain MJ06 T and its phylogenetically closest relatives, Castellaniella denitrificans NKNTAU T , Castellaniella defragrans 54Pin T , Castellaniella ginsengisoli DCY36 T and Castellaniella caeni Ho-11 T , were 98.6, 98.3, 97.8 and 97.3 %, respectively. Levels of similarity between strain MJ06 T and the type strains of all other recognized species in the family Alcaligenaceae were below 95.0 %. Strain MJ06 T exhibited relatively low levels of DNA–DNA relatedness with respect to C. defragrans DSM 12141 T (52 %), C. denitrificans DSM 11046 T (31 %), C. ginsengisoli KCTC 22398 T (18 %) and C. caeni KCTC 12197 T (15 %). On the basis of its phenotypic and genotypic properties together with phylogenetic distinctiveness, strain MJ06 T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Castellaniella , for which the name Castellaniella daejeonensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is MJ06 T (=KCTC 22454 T =JCM 16240 T ).

Abstract: A Gram-negative, non-motile, aerobic bacterial strain, designated MJ20 T , was isolated from farm soil near Daejeon (South Korea) and was characterized taxonomically by using a polyphasic approach. Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that strain MJ20 T belongs to the family Cytophagaceae , class Sphingobacteria , and was related most closely to Dyadobacter fermentans DSM 18053 T (98.9 % sequence similarity), Dyadobacter beijingensis JCM 14200 T (98.0 %) and Dyadobacter ginsengisoli KCTC 12589 T (96.4 %). The G+C content of the genomic DNA of strain MJ20 T was 48.5 mol%. The detection of MK-7 as the predominant menaquinone and a fatty acid profile with summed feature 4 (C 16 : 1 ω 7 c and/or iso-C 15 : 0 2-OH), iso-C 15 : 0 , C 16 : 0 and C 16 : 1 ω 5 c as major components supported the affiliation of strain MJ20 T to the genus Dyadobacter . The new isolate exhibited relatively low levels of DNA–DNA relatedness with respect to D. fermentans DSM 18053 T (mean± sd of three determinations, 47±7 %) and D. beijingensis JCM 14200 T (38±8 %). On the basis of its phenotypic and genotypic properties together with phylogenetic distinctiveness, strain MJ20 T (=KCTC 22481 T =JCM 16232 T ) should be classified in the genus Dyadobacter as the type strain of a novel species, for which the name Dyadobacter soli sp. nov. is proposed.

Abstract: Two bacterial strains, FWR-8 T and CFWR-9 T , were isolated from the gut of larvae of Protaetia brevitarsis seulensis that were raised at the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Wanju-gun, Republic of Korea. Both strains were strictly aerobic, Gram-stain-positive and non-motile. Strain FWR-8 T possessed the highest sequence similarity (98.7 %) to that of Protaetiibacter intestinalis 2DFWR-13 T and the phylogenetic tree revealed that strain FWR-8 T formed a cluster with Ptb. intestinalis 2DFWR-13 T . Pseudolysinimonas kribbensis MSL-13 T and Lysinimonas yzui N7XX-4 T shared a high 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity (97.8 %) and formed a cluster adjacent to the cluster that included Ptb. intestinalis 2DFWR-13 T . The 16S rRNA gene sequence of strain CFWR-9 T exhibited the highest similarity (97.7 %) to that of Agromyces binzhouensis OAct353 T and the phylogenetic tree indicated that strain CFWR-9 T formed one independent cluster with A. binzhouensis OAct353 T that was within the radius of the genus Agromyces . The peptidoglycan type, major fatty acids, major menaquinones and total polar lipids of strain FWR-8 T were characterized as type B1, iso-C 16 : 0 , anteiso-C 15 : 0 and anteiso-C 17 : 0 , MK-15, MK-16 and MK-14, and diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, two unidentified glycolipids and one unidentified lipid, respectively. Those from strain CFWR-9 T were type B1, iso-C 16 : 0 , anteiso-C 15 : 0 and anteiso-C 17 : 0 , MK-11, MK-12 and MK-10, and diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, two unidentified glycolipids and one unidentified lipid, respectively. Based on the phenotypic and genotypic data, strains FWR-8 T and CFWR-9 T each represent a novel species within the genera Protaetiibacter and Agromyces , respectively. For these species, the names Protaetiibacter larvae sp. nov. and Agromyces intestinalis sp. nov. have been proposed, with the type strains FWR-8 T (=KACC 19322 T =NBRC 113051 T ) and CFWR-9 T (=KACC 19306 T =NBRC 113046 T ), respectively. Our results also justify a reclassification of Lysinimonas yzui as Pseudolysinimonas yzui comb. nov. and an emended description of the genus Pseudolysinimonas isprovided.

Abstract: A Gram-stain-positive, aerobic, endospore-forming, moderately halophilic rod, designated strain R1 T , was isolated from rice husks and subjected to a taxonomic study using a polyphasic approach. Strain R1 T produced spherical or ellipsoidal endospores at a subterminal position in swollen sporangia, and was catalase- and oxidase-positive. The isolate grew optimally at 37 °C and pH 6.0–7.0, and could grow in the presence of up to 9 % (w/v) NaCl. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain R1 T belongs to the genus Bacillus . The closest relatives of strain R1 T were Bacillus subtilis subsp . subtilis NCIB 3610 T , Bacillus aquimaris TF-12 T , and Bacillus marisflavi TF-11 T , with 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities of 96.0 %, 98.4 %, and 98.7 %, respectively. DNA–DNA relatedness values between the isolate and the reference strains were ≤42±3 %. The predominant menaquinones were MK-5 (50 %) and MK-7 (50 %). The major polar lipids were phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol, and phosphatidylethanolamine. The major cellular fatty acids were iso-C 15 : 0 (48.6 %) and anteiso-C 15 : 0 (20.6 %), and the cell-wall diamino acid was meso -diaminopimelic acid. On the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequence analyses and chemotaxonomic and phenotypic characteristics, it is concluded that strain R1 T represents a novel species of the genus Bacillus , for which we propose the name Bacillus oryzaecorticis sp. nov. The type strain is R1 T ( = KACC 17217 T  = KCCM 90231 T  = JCM 19602 T ).

Abstract: A novel strictly aerobic, Gram-stain-positive, rod-shaped, motile, endospore-forming, white-coloured bacterium, designated strain MFER-1 T , was isolated from a fermented liquor of wild grasses sampled in the Republic of Korea. The respiratory quinone of strain MFER-1 T was menaquinone-7 and its major cellular fatty acids were anteiso-C 15 : 0 (55.3 %), iso-C 16 : 0 (17.5 %) and C 16 : 0 (12.1 %). The polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, four unidentified aminophospholipids and an unidentified phospholipid. The 16S rRNA gene sequence of strain MFER-1 T showed similarity of 98.1 % to ‘ Cohnella cholangitidis ’ 1 605-214 T and below 98.0 % sequence similarity to the other Cohnella species. The phylogenomic tree indicated that strain MFER-1 T formed a reliable cluster with several Cohnella species. The estimated genome size of strain MFER-1 T was 8.52 Mb. Genomic DNA G+C content was 50.7mol%. The orthologous average nucleotide identity, digital DNA–DNA hybridization and amino acid identity values of strain MFER-1 T with the most closely related species ‘ Cohnella cholangitidis ’ 1 605-214 T were 78.7, 23.0 and 79.6 %, respectively. Based on the phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic results, strain MFER-1 T should represent a novel species of the genus Cohnella , for which the name Cohnella herbarum sp. nov. is proposed, with strain MFER-1 T (=KACC 21 257 T =NBRC 114 628 T ) as the type strain.

Abstract: A Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, non-motile and rod-shaped bacterium, designated KIS59-12 T , was isolated from a soil sample collected on Hodo island, Boryeong, Republic of Korea. The strain grew at 10–33 °C, pH 6.0–7.5 and with 0–4 % NaCl (w/v). Results of phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain KIS59-12 T was in the same clade as Arachidicoccus rhizosphaerae Vu-144 T and Arachidicoccus ginsenosidivorans Gsoil809 T with 97.5 and 97.2 % sequence similarity, respectively. Comparative genome analysis between strain KIS59-12 T and A. rhizosphaerae Vu-144 T showed that average nucleotide identity value was 69.4 % and the digital DNA–DNA hybridization value was 19.1 %. The major respiratory quinone was menaquinone-7. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine and an unknown polar lipid. The predominant cellular fatty acids were iso-C 15 : 0 , iso-C 15 : 1 G and iso-C 17 : 0 3-OH, which supported the affiliation of strain KIS59-12 T with the genus Arachidicoccus . The major polyamines were homospermidine and putrescine. The genomic DNA G+C content was 36.4 mol%. On the basis of phylogenetic, physiological and chemotaxonomic characteristics, strain KIS59-12 T represents a novel species of the genus Arachidicoccus , for which the name Arachidicoccus soli sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of Arachidicoccus soli is KIS59-12 T (=KACC 17340 T =NBRC 113161 T ).
