Abstract: 〈 p class="abstract" 〉 〈 strong 〉 Background: 〈 /strong 〉 Epistaxis can be classified into anterior and posterior epistaxis. All bleeding occurs as a result of disruption of the intact nasal mucosa, whether due to trauma, inflammation, or neoplasm. Management depends on the severity of the bleeding and its underlying cause. 〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="abstract" 〉 〈 strong 〉 Methods: 〈 /strong 〉 This study was done in department of otorhinolaryngology in a tertiary care centre from September 2018 to December 2020. A total of 143 patients were studies. All patients admitted in our department as a case of epistaxis were analysed for the risk factors present in them which could be the cause of epistaxis. 〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="abstract" 〉 〈 strong 〉 Results: 〈 /strong 〉 In our study it was seen the risk factor involved in majority of patients was hypertension (70%), followed closely by diabetis mellitis and deranged coagulogram (65%). Chronic kidney disease was an associated risk factor in 64% of patients. All these factors cause microangiopathies which in turn lead to bleeding. 〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="abstract" 〉 〈 strong 〉 Conclusions: 〈 /strong 〉 The current study can be taken as indirect evidence that while raised blood pressure is seen in patients with severe epistaxis but in general the diseases associated with microangiopathies. 〈 /p 〉

Abstract: 〈 p class="abstract" 〉 In our day to day otolaryngological practice we encounter many cases, some of which are very rare and worth reporting. We report very rare three cases seen during our practice: presence of tooth in anterior ethamoids causing chronic sinusitis, and NK/T Cell lymphoma (nasal variant) and An accessory submandibular gland. There have been few case reports which mentions about the presence of tooth in maxillary sinus leading to sinusitis but none mentions of presence of the tooth in anterior ethamoids leading to sinusitis. Extranodal NK/T cell lymphoma, nasal variant is a rare and aggressive type of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma that develops outside the lymphatic system especially in the nose. Accessory submandibular gland is extremely rare. This is the fifth case reported so far worldwide. 〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="abstract" 〉   〈 /p 〉

Abstract: 〈 p 〉 〈 strong 〉 Background: 〈 /strong 〉 Lateral epicondylitis commonly called tennis elbow is a common cause of elbow pain and involves degeneration of common extensor origin with no unanimously supported algorithm for the treatment. Recently, autologous blood injection has been reported for the treatment of resistant cases. We present the short term results of a single shot of autologous whole blood for the treatment of resistant tennis elbow. 〈 /p 〉 〈 p 〉 〈 strong 〉 Methods: 〈 /strong 〉 The study was conducted on 56 patients who fulfilled the other inclusion criteria’s. 2 ml of autologous whole blood was introduced just proximal to the lateral epicondyle and the contents were injected on the under surface of the extensor carpi radialis group of muscles. Pain severity using VAS and Nirschl Staging was assessed before injection and re-evaluation was done at 4 weeks, 12 weeks and 6 months. 〈 /p 〉 〈 p 〉 〈 strong 〉 Results: 〈 /strong 〉 Before the procedure average pain score was 7.5(range 5-9). The average Nirschl stage was 5.5 (range 4-7). After autologous blood injections the average pain score decreased to 4 at 4 weeks, 2.8 at 12 weeks and 2.5 at 6 months. The average Nirschl stage decreased to 3.53 at 4 weeks, 2.45 at 12 weeks and 2.3 at 6months. The reduction was statistically significant (p & lt;0.001). 28 out of 56 patients (50%) were completely relieved of pain with a pain score of 0 at 6 months. There was no major complication. 〈 /p 〉 〈 p 〉 〈 strong 〉 Conclusions: 〈 /strong 〉 A single injection of autologous whole blood for resistant tennis elbow is an economical and effective treatment and has an excellent safety profile. 〈 /p 〉

Abstract: Background: Suicide is an important and serious public health problem. It is one of the major emergencies in psychiatry. This study was carried out to assess the socio-demographic profile and mode of attempt of suicide among suicidal attempters attending emergency. Methods: This study was a cross sectional, observational study conducted at Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences-Kashmir, an associated hospital of Government Medical College Srinagar, among the suicide patients attending the outpatient service and inpatient services fulfilling inclusion and exclusion criteria over a period of one and a half year. Each patient was informed about the purpose of interview; his/her consent was obtained in a simple and easily understandable unambiguous language. Results: A total of 221 cases who had been admitted following unsuccessful suicide attempts to the emergency and psychiatry department were taken up for the study. Out of which 161 (72.9%) were females and 60 (27.1%) were males, the mean age was 24.61±8.9 years. Lower middle and upper lower classes occupied an equal percentage of 34.4% of the suicide attempters, while 24% belonged to upper middle class and only 5.9% belonged to lower class .The least no. of cases (1.4%) were from the upper classes. The most common mode adopted was poisoning whereas the least common mode was self- immolation. Poisoning and self-mutilation were proportionally high in females as compared to males with a significant p value. Conclusions: There should be a robust system in place which takes care of future management and follow up of this group of population.
