    Abstract: Four new species of Russula subsection Sardoninae from northern and southwestern China under coniferous and deciduous trees are proposed as R. begonia, R. photinia, R. rhodochroa, and R. rufa. Illustrations and descriptions of R. gracillima, R. leucomarginata, R. roseola, and the above four new species are provided based on evidence of morphological characters and phylogenetic analyses of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS), as well as the multi-locus of mtSSU, nLSU, rpb1, rpb2 and tef1-α. The relationships between these new species and allied taxa are discussed.

    Abstract: Gross primary production (GPP) determines the amounts of carbon and energy that enter terrestrial ecosystems. However, the tremendous uncertainty of the GPP still hinders the reliability of GPP estimates and therefore understanding of the global carbon cycle. In this study, using observations from global eddy covariance (EC) flux towers, we appraised the performance of 24 widely used GPP models and the quality of major spatial data layers that drive the models. Results show that global GPP products generated by the 24 models varied greatly in means (from 92.7 to 178.9 Pg C yr−1) and trends (from −0.25 to 0.84 Pg C yr−1). Model structure differences (i.e., light use efficiency models, machine learning models, and process-based biophysical models) are an important aspect contributing to the large uncertainty. In addition, various biases in currently available spatial datasets have found (e.g., only 57% of the observed variation in photosynthetically active radiation at the flux tower locations was explained by the spatial dataset), which not only affect GPP simulation but more importantly hinder the simulation and understanding of the earth system. Moving forward, research into the efficacy of model structures and precision of input data may be more important for global GPP estimation.

    Abstract: Psychiatric disorders are a class of complex disorders characterized by brain dysfunction with varying degrees of impairment in cognition, emotion, consciousness and behavior, which has become a serious public health issue. The NGFR gene encodes the p75 neurotrophin receptor, which regulates neuronal growth, survival and plasticity, and was reported to be associated with depression, schizophrenia and antidepressant efficacy in human patient and animal studies. In this study, we investigated its association with schizophrenia and major depression and its role in the behavioral phenotype of adult mice. Four NGFR SNPs were detected based on a study among 1010 schizophrenia patients, 610 patients with major depressive disorders (MDD) and 1034 normal controls, respectively. We then knocked down the expression of NGFR protein in the hippocampal dentate gyrus of the mouse brain by injection of shRNA lentivirus to further investigate its behavioral effect in mice. We found significant associations of s2072446 and rs11466162 for schizophrenia. Ngfr knockdown mice showed social and behavioral abnormalities, suggesting that it is linked to the etiology of neuropsychiatric disorders. We found significant associations between NGFR and schizophrenia and that Ngfr may contribute to the social behavior of adult mice in the functional study, which provided meaningful clues to the pathogenesis of psychiatric disorders.

    Abstract: Nitrogen fertilizer is essential for rice growth and development, and topdressing nitrogen fertilizer at panicle stage has a huge impact on rice grain quality. However, the effect of panicle nitrogen fertilizer (PNF) on starch physicochemical properties and fine structure remain unclear. In this study, four PNF levels (0, 60, 120, 180 kg N ha−1) were grown with the same basal and tiller fertilizer (150 kg N ha−1). The starch physicochemical properties, fine structure, texture properties and eating quality of two japonica rice were determined. We found that the content of total protein, crude fat and amylose between superior and inferior grains were significantly different. Compared with inferior grains, superior grains had low relative crystallinity, good pasting characteristics and outstanding eating quality. With the increase of nitrogen application rates, the starch volume mean diameter was lower; the average chain length of amylopectin was longer; and the relative crystallinity of starch was higher. The changes above in starch structure resulted in an increase in starch solubility, swelling power and gelatinization enthalpy, and led to a decrease in retrogradation enthalpy, retrogradation percentage and pasting viscosity, consequently contributing to the increase in hardness and stickiness of rice and the deterioration of taste value. These results indicated that topdressing PNF lengthened the amylopectin chain, decreased starch granule size, enhanced crystallization stability and increased gelatinization enthalpy, which were the direct reasons for the deterioration of cooking and eating quality.

    Abstract: Nitrogen fertilizer is an important agronomic measure to regulate rice yield and grain quality. Grain filling is crucial for the formation of rice yield and grain quality. However, there are few studies on the effects of excessive nitrogen application (ENA) on grain filling rate and grain quality. A two-year field experiment was conducted to reveal the difference in grain filling characteristics and grain quality of superior grains (SG) and inferior grains (IG), as well as their responses to nitrogen fertilizer. We determined the grain appearance, the rice yield, the grain filling characteristics of SG and IG, and grain quality. We found that with the increasing nitrogen application level, grain yield of both varieties first increased and then decreased. The average yield of excessive nitrogen application (345 kg N ha−1) was 2.68–6.31% lower than that of appropriate nitrogen application (270 kg N ha−1). ENA reduced the grain filling rate by 12.7–25.8%, and the grain filling rate of SG was higher than that of IG. Increasing nitrogen application increased the processing quality and appearance quality of rice grain, but ENA deteriorated the appearance quality, eating quality and nutritional quality. The amylose content and taste value of SS were 3.1–9.7% and 7.1–20.2% higher than those of IS, respectively. The protein components of SG were lower than those of IG. Taken together, our results revealed that ENA leads to the lowering of rice grain yield and grain quality by suppressed grain filling of inferior grains.

    Abstract: Polylactic acid (PLA) is a highly promising bio-based polymer that can replace petroleum-based materials. The PLA-modified membrane has been found to effectively block soil odours in laboratory experiments, but its barrier effect at the excavated soil interfaces of actual pesticide sites requires further evaluation. This study investigates the barrier effect of the PLA-modified membrane on odours at the excavated soil interface of a pesticide-contaminated site in Guangdong Province, China. The membrane’s barrier effect on odours was comprehensively evaluated using the static chamber technique with three indicators: diffusion flux, odour concentration, and a health risk index. The results showed that the initial diffusion fluxes of six main odour substances: m- and p-xylene, o-xylene, toluene, ethylbenzene, n-propylbenzene, and cumene were 1.95 × 100, 2.88 × 10−1, 7.27 × 10−3, 1.49 × 100, 2.97 × 10−3, and 3.89 × 10−3 mg/(m2·s) based on the contribution rate. After laying the PLA-modified membrane, the flux reduction rate of all six odour substances was generally 〉 90%. The background odour concentration in the test area was 109.56, and the odour concentration after laying the membrane was 〈 1.12. The initial non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risk indices of the test area were 3.03 and 1.62 × 10−4, respectively. After laying the membrane, these indices were 〈 0.05 and 〈 3.78 × 10−7, respectively, indicating no health risk. Overall, the PLA-modified membrane had a good barrier effect on odours in the on-site application, effectively reducing the diffusion and nuisances of odours, as well as their health risks.

    Abstract: Existing studies have found that curved beam unilateral stayed bridges (CBUSB) have a risk of cable breakage under the design wind velocity. To ensure structural wind-induced vibration security, it is necessary to study the wind-induced vibration characteristics of CBUSBs considering the influence of the impact load due to the cable breakage. Based on the aerodynamic coefficients determined by a wind tunnel test and the established impact load model, parametric analyses of important CBUSBs’ characteristics (beam curvature and cable arrangement scheme) and the location of the cable breakage are carried out to assess the influence of cable breakage on the time-domain statistical values and frequency-domain distribution characteristics of wind-induced vibration response. The DAF, considering the influence of cable breakages on the wind-induced vibration peak value of CBUSBs, is proposed through dynamic analysis. Study results show that, with increasing curvature, under the two-modes action of wind loads and impact loads, the fluctuation component of the CBUSB is changed, resulting in a smaller proportion of resonant response. For CBUSBs with unilateral or bilateral cable arrangements, their wind-induced vibration behavior is significantly different. The former have dynamic characteristics and the latter have quasi-static characteristics. The breakage of the shortest cable at 7/33 to 7/22 of the curved beam length and its symmetry part significantly increases the wind-induced peak response of CBUSBs. The DAF recommended values can consider the amplification effect of wind-induced vibration due to the cable breakage.

    Abstract: UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) remote sensing provides the feasibility of high-throughput phenotype nondestructive acquisition at the field scale. However, accurate remote sensing of crop physicochemical parameters from UAV optical measurements still needs to be further studied. For this purpose, we put forward a crop phenotype inversion framework based on the optimal estimation (OE) theory in this paper, originating from UAV low-altitude hyperspectral/multispectral data. The newly developed unified linearized vector radiative transfer model (UNL-VRTM), combined with the classical PROSAIL model, is used as the forward model, and the forward model was verified by the wheat canopy reflectance data, collected using the FieldSpec Handheld in Qi County, Henan Province. To test the self-consistency of the OE-based framework, we conducted forward simulations for the UAV multispectral sensors (DJI P4 Multispectral) with different observation geometries and aerosol loadings, and a total of 801 sets of validation data were obtained. In addition, parameter sensitivity analysis and information content analysis were performed to determine the contribution of crop parameters to the UAV measurements. Results showed that: (1) the forward model has a strong coupling between vegetation canopy and atmosphere environment, and the modeling process is reasonable. (2) The OE-based inversion framework can make full use of the available radiometric spectral information and had good convergence and self-consistency. (3) The UAV multispectral observations can support the synchronous retrieval of LAI (leaf area index) and Cab (chlorophyll a and b content) based on the proposed algorithm. The proposed inversion framework is expected to be a new way for phenotypic parameter extraction of crops in field environments and had some potential and feasibility for UAV remote sensing.

    Abstract: Growing evidence suggests that cisplatin and other chemotherapeutic agents promote tumor metastasis while inhibiting tumor growth, which is a critical issue for certain patients in clinical practices. However, the role of chemotherapeutics in promoting tumor metastasis and the molecular mechanism involved are unclear. Here, we investigated the roles of cisplatin in promoting tumor metastasis in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). We demonstrated that cisplatin promoted epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), cell motility, and metastasis in vitro and in vivo. The bioinformatic analysis and molecular biology approaches also indicated that DCBLD2 (Discoidin, CUB and LCCL domain containing 2) is a key gene that mediates cisplatin-induced metastasis. DCBLD2 stabilizes β-catenin by phosphorylating GSK3β and transporting accumulated β-catenin to the nucleus to promote the expression of EMT-related transcriptional factors (TFs), ultimately resulting in tumor metastasis. We also identified that cisplatin enhanced DCBLD2 expression by phosphorylating ERK and hence the AP-1-driven transcription of DCBLD2. Furthermore, DCBLD2-specific siRNAs encapsulated by nanocarriers prominently inhibit cisplatin-induced metastasis in vivo. Therefore, DCBLD2 plays a key role in cisplatin-induced metastasis in LUAD and is a potential target for preventing chemotherapy-induced metastasis in vivo.
