Abstract: A hybrid polymer of SiO2@Tb3+(poly(ethylene terephthalate)-tetraglycol)3 phenanthroline (SiO2@Tb3+(PET–TEG)3Phen) was synthesized by mixing of inorganic SiO2 nanoparticles with polymeric segments of PET–TEG, whereas PET–TEG was achieved through multi-step functionalization strategy. Tb3+ ions and β-diketonate ligand Phen were added in resulting material. The experimental results demonstrated that it was well blended with PET as a robust additive, and not only promoted the crystallinity, but also possessed excellent luminescence properties. An investigation of the mechanism revealed that the SiO2 nanoparticles functioned as a crystallization promotor; the Tb3+ acted as the fluorescent centre; and the PET–TEG segments played the role of linker and buffer, providing better compatibility of PET matrix with the inorganic component. This work demonstrated that hybrid polymers are appealing as multifunctional additives in the polymer processing and polymer luminescence field.

Abstract: The technique of cloning has wide applications in animal husbandry and human biomedicine. However, the very low developmental efficiency of cloned embryos limits the application of cloning. Ectopic XIST-expression-induced abnormal X chromosome inactivation (XCI) is a primary cause of the low developmental competence of cloned mouse and pig embryos. Knockout or knockdown of XIST improves cloning efficiency in both pigs and mice. The transcription factor Yin yang 1(YY1) plays a critical role in XCI by triggering the transcription of X-inactive specific transcript (XIST) and facilitating the localization of XIST RNA on the X chromosome. This study aimed to investigate whether RNA interference to suppress the expression of YY1 can inhibit erroneous XIST expression, rescue abnormal XCI, and improve the developmental ability of cloned pig embryos. The results showed that YY1 binds to the 5′ regulatory region of the porcine XIST gene in pig cells. The microinjection of YY1 siRNA into cloned pig embryos reduced the transcript abundance of XIST and upregulated the mRNA level of X-linked genes at the 4-cell and blastocyst stages. The siRNA-mediated knockdown of YY1 altered the transcriptome and enhanced the in vitro and in vivo developmental efficiency of cloned porcine embryos. These results suggested that YY1 participates in regulating XIST expression and XCI in cloned pig embryos and that the suppression of YY1 expression can increase the developmental rate of cloned pig embryos. The present study established a new method for improving the efficiency of pig cloning.

Abstract: Cloned animals generated by the somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) approach are valuable for the farm animal industry and biomedical science. Nevertheless, the extremely low developmental efficiency of cloned embryos hinders the application of SCNT. Low developmental competence is related to the higher apoptosis level in cloned embryos than in fertilization-derived counterparts. Interleukin 17D (IL17D) expression is up-regulated during early mouse embryo development and is required for normal development of mouse embryos by inhibiting apoptosis. This study aimed to investigate whether IL17D plays roles in regulating pig SCNT embryo development. Supplementation of IL17D to culture medium improved the developmental competence and decreased the cell apoptosis level in cloned porcine embryos. The transcriptome data indicated that IL17D activated apoptosis-associated pathways and promoted global gene expression at embryonic genome activation (EGA) stage in treated pig SCNT embryos. Treating pig SCNT embryos with IL17D up-regulated expression of GADD45B, which is functional in inhibiting apoptosis and promoting EGA. Overexpression of GADD45B enhanced the developmental efficiency of cloned pig embryos. These results suggested that IL17D treatment enhanced the developmental ability of cloned pig embryos by suppressing apoptosis and promoting EGA, which was related to the up-regulation of GADD45B expression. This study demonstrated the roles of IL17D in early development of porcine SCNT embryos and provided a new approach to improve the developmental efficiency of cloned porcine embryos.

Abstract: Analysis of growth and yield characteristics of rice with different yield levels is very important for the breeding of high-yield rice cultivators. To investigate the yield components’ variation, morphological characteristics of the panicles, leaves, and stems of rice varieties under different yield levels, a two-year field experiment was conducted in Chongqing China. The 20 mid-season Indica hybrid rice varieties were classified into three groups based on yield, comprising high-yield group (HG), mid-yield group (MG), and low-yield group (LG). The main reason for the superior yield of HG is that the varieties of this group had a significantly higher number of effective panicles per unit area than the MG and LG. In plant type factors, the leaf type factors were the most important reason causing yield difference of HG, MG, and LG. The average leaf roll index, average leaf length to width ratio, average leaf base angle, average leaf droop angle, and average leaf pillow distance of the upper three leaves were significantly or significantly negatively correlated with the yield, while the average leaf width, average leaf area, and the average distance of leaf edge were significantly or significantly positively correlated with yield, and the leaf droop angle was the most important plant type factor affecting the yield. Based on these results, we further quantified the plant type factors of HG and constructed an ideal plant type model for high-yield hybrid mid-season rice. Theoretical and practical basis could be provided for breeding mid-season Indica hybrid rice with super-high yield in the future to ensure food security.

Abstract: Organic second-order nonlinear optical materials are of great significance in the field of integrated photonics, optical data storage and optical information processing. In this work, two iodide salts with benzo[e]indol cations as electron-withdrawing groups were designed and synthesized, which are (E)-2-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxystyryl)-1,1,3-trimethyl-1H-benzo[e] indol-3-ium iodide (1-TB) and (E)-2-(3,4-dihydroxystyryl)-1,1,3-trimethyl-1H-benzo[e]indol-3-ium iodide (2-TB). Under the irradiation of 1064 nm laser, the second harmonic generations of the 1-TB and 2-TB powders are 760 and 580 times that of urea, respectively. Among them, crystals of 1-TB are successfully grown by a slow cooling method without using seed crystals. Bulk crystal with a size of 8.0 × 3.0 × 1.0 mm3 and many submillimeter single crystals with excellent optical quality are obtained.

Abstract: In the blending process of the composites, the clustering of MWCNTs under high concentration leads to poor dispersion and difficult complexing with luminescent elements. Cyanate ester resins (CERs) have a brittle network structure when cured caused by a conjugation effect that forms a strong emission peak in the ultraviolet-visible region and quenches the luminescent elements of the fluorescent nanofillers. In this paper, by anchoring of the Eu complex (Eu(TTA)3Phen, ETP) on a surface of longitudinal split unzipped carbon nanotubes (uMWCNTs); fluorescent nanoparticles were prepared as ETP anchor unzipper carbon nanotubes (ETP-uCNTs). Dicyanate ester of bisphenol E (CER-E monomer) is cured to polycyanurate at a lower temperature to achieve a high conversion, promoting a uniform blend with ETP-uCNTs, providing the fluorescence environment with high color purity. Studies show the ETP-uCNTs solve the agglomeration of MWCNTs and improve the interface binding ability. Compared with the pure CER-E, the tensile strength, bending strength and impact strength of CER-E/0.8 wt.% ETP-uCNT hybrid nanocomposites are increased by 94.6%, 92.8% and 101.1%, respectively. The carbon residue rate of CER-E/ETP-uCNTs is up to 47.14% at 800 °C, the temperature of the maximum reaction rate decreases by 67.81 °C, and the partial absorption of ultraviolet light is realized between 200 and 400 nm.

Abstract: Objective: T lymphocytes, complement, and immunoglobulin play an important role in neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD). As common clinical examination indicators, they have been used as routine indicators in many hospitals, which is convenient for being carried out in clinical work, but there are few articles of guiding significance for clinical practice. The purpose of this study was to study the relationship between commonly used immune indicators and clinical characteristics in patients with NMOSD. Methods: We compared clinical characteristics and clinical immune indicators in 258 patients with NMOSD and 200 healthy controls (HCs). We used multiple linear regression to study the relationship between immunotherapy, disease phase, sex, age, AQP4-IgG, and immune indicators. In addition, lymphocyte subsets were compared before and after immunotherapy in 24 of the 258 patients. We explored the influencing factors and predictors of severe motor disability. Results: The percentages of CD3 ratio (71.4% vs. 73.8%, p = 0.013), CD4 ratio (38.8% vs. 42.2%, p 〈 0.001), and CD4/CD8 ratio (1.43 vs. 1.66, p 〈 0.001) in NMOSD patients were significantly lower than those in the HC group. In addition, complement C4 (0.177 g/L vs. 0.221 g/L, p 〈 0.001) and peripheral blood IgG (10.95 g/L vs. 11.80 g/L, p = 0.026) in NMOSD patients were significantly lower than those in the HC group. CD3 percentage was correlated with blood collection age and disease stage; CD8 percentage was correlated with blood collection age, disease stage, and treatment; CD4/CD8 percentage was correlated with blood collection age and treatment; complement C4 was correlated with blood collection age and sex; and IgG was correlated with disease stage and treatment. Twenty-four patients before and after treatment showed that the percentages of CD3 ratio (74.8% vs. 66.7%, p = 0.001) and CD8 ratio (32.4% vs. 26.2%, p 〈 0.001) after treatment in NMOSD patients were significantly increased, and the percentage of CD3 before treatment was moderately negatively correlated with ARR (r = −0.507, p = 0.011). Binary logistic regression analysis showed that peripheral blood complement C3 is a serious influencing factor for severe motor disability (EDSS score ≥ 6 points). Peripheral blood complement C3 and C4 are predictors of severe motor disability (p 〈 0.05). Conclusion: Our results suggest that peripheral blood T lymphocytes, C3, C4 and immunoglobulin are convenient and routine clinical indicators that are convenient for implementation in clinical work. They have certain reference values for disease staging, recurrence, drug efficacy, and motor disability. They have improved our understanding of clinical immune indicators for NMOSD patients, but whether they can be used as biomarkers for clinical prognosis remains to be further studied.

Abstract: The Heshui area within the Ordos Basin holds significant strategic importance for the extraction and development of tight oil resources in the Changqing Oilfield. This study extensively explored the geochemical features and distribution tendencies of source rocks in the Chang 7 member, utilizing core samples and logging data for a comprehensive analysis. A more advanced model was utilized to predict the dispersion of Total Organic Carbon (TOC) in the Chang 7 member source rock. The properties and hydrocarbon generation potential of source rocks were thoroughly assessed through a comprehensive analysis that involved evaluating their total organic carbon content, pyrolysis parameters, and reflectance (Ro) values. The research concluded that the source rocks boast substantial organic matter, predominantly categorized as type II-I organic material. The thermal maturation levels span from low maturity to maturity, signifying significant potential for oil generation. Generally, the source rock quality falls within the range of good to excellent. Sedimentary patterns notably influence the distribution of hydrocarbon-source rocks. The northeastern sector of the study area is situated in an area characterized by deep to semi-deep lake sedimentation, making it the primary location for the presence of Chang 7 member hydrocarbon source rocks. With a thickness ranging from 40 to 70 m, this zone becomes a pivotal focus for the potential exploration of tight oil resources in the future. The results of this study offer crucial insights for understanding the geochemical characteristics of hydrocarbon source rocks, evaluating their potential for hydrocarbon generation, and forecasting favorable zones for oil and gas exploration in similar regions.

Abstract: To verify the priming effects of Maillard reaction precursors on the microbial decomposition of rice straw at different incubation temperatures, the method of indoor incubation at a constant temperature was adopted. In the process, the addition of glucose, catechol or glycine solution alone or in mixed solution was conducted at incubation temperatures of 10 °C, 15 °C and 28 °C, respectively. The C content of humic-extracted acid (CHLE), humification index (the ratio of C content of humic-like acid to fulvic-like acid, CHLA/CFLA), ∆logK value of humic-like acid (HLA), and C content of humin-like acid (CHLu) were dynamically analyzed at 0, 30, 60, and 90 d, respectively. At the same time, the differences in the atomic ratio and FTIR spectra before and after incubation were systematically analyzed. The results showed that (1) the additions of glucose alone and mixed precursors were both beneficial to increasing the CHLE content at three tested temperatures, especially at two low temperatures (10 °C and 15 °C), and glucose alone manifested the most significant improvement in CHLE. In contrast, following the addition of glycine alone, the CHLE content decreased by 2.4% at 15 °C and 4.6% at 28 °C after incubation. (2) Glucose as the sole precursor was more beneficial to improving the quality of the humic substance (HS) at 28 °C, but only enhanced the condensation degree of HLA molecules at 15 °C. Compared with the results at 15 °C and 28 °C, the HLA molecules had the lowest condensation degree at 10 °C, regardless of whether a single precursor or mixed Maillard precursors were used. (3) After incubation, the amounts of N compounds in the HLA molecules decreased to varying degrees, especially at 28 °C. The O-containing functional groups, such as carboxyl groups, from HLA molecules decreased following the addition of a single precursor, while the mixed precursors resulted in an increase in O-containing functional groups. Increasing the catechol content directly enriched the unsaturated bonds of HLA. With the decomposition of rice straw, regardless of how the precursors were added, the polysaccharide content decreased to different degrees. The decomposition of polysaccharides in HLA was more temperature-sensitive, and an increase in temperature might encourage more polysaccharide consumption. Under each temperature, the molecular structure of HLA was simplified initially and then gradually became complex. Finally, the addition of glucose alone at 15 °C was more favorable for the complexity of HLA molecules, while at 28 °C, it could only alleviate the degree of simplification of the HLA molecular structure to a certain extent. (4) At the three tested temperatures, compared with the CK control, either one precursor or a mixture of three precursors could more effectively promote the decomposition of CHLu. Under the conditions of 10 °C and 15 °C, the addition of mixed precursors was more beneficial to the decomposition of CHLu, causing the CHLu content to decrease by 37.9% and 44.7%, respectively, followed by the addition of glucose alone.
