    Abstract: The molecular interactions between compound and polymeric carriers are expected to highly contribute to high drug load and good physical stability of solid dispersions. In this study, a series of amorphous solid dispersions (ASD) of Curcumin (Cur) were prepared with different polymers by the solvent evaporation method. With the carrier polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), the amorphous solid dispersion system exhibits a better solubility and stability than that with poloxamers and HP-β-CD due to the strong drug-polymer interaction. The drug/polymer interaction and their binding sites were investigated by combined experimental (XRD, DSC, FTIR, SEM, Raman, and 1H-NMR) and molecular dynamics simulation techniques. The Curcumin ASD demonstrated enhanced bioavailability by 11-fold and improved anti-inflammatory activities by the decrease in cytokine production (MMP-9, IL-1β, IL-6, VEGF, MIP-2, and TNF-α) compared to the raw Curcumin. The integration of experimental and modeling techniques is a powerful tool for the rational design of formulation development.

    Abstract: Although many studies have focused on the roles of soil microbes in phosphorus (P) cycling, little is known about the distribution of microbial P cycling genes across soil depths. In this study, metagenomic sequencing was adopted to examine the differences in the abundance of genes and microbial taxa associated with soil P cycling between organic and mineral soil in subtropical forests. The total relative abundance of inorganic P solubilizing genes was the highest, that of P starvation response regulating genes was second, and organic P mineralizing genes was the lowest. The soil organic carbon concentration, N:P ratio, and available P concentration were higher in the organic soil than the mineral soil, resulting in abundances of organic P mineralizing genes (appA and 3-phytase), and inorganic P cycling genes (ppa), whereas those of the inorganic P cycling genes (gcd and pqqC) and the P starvation response regulating gene (phoR) were higher in mineral soil. The four bacteria phyla that related to P cycling, Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Candidatus_Eremiobacteraeota were higher in organic soil; conversely, the three bacteria phyla (Acidobacteria, Verrucomicrobia, and Chloroflexi) and archaea taxa were more abundant in mineral soil. Therefore, we concluded that the distribution of genes and microbial taxa involved in soil P cycling differed among soil depths, providing a depth-resolved scale insight into the underlying mechanisms of P cycling by soil microorganisms in subtropical forests.

    Abstract: The application of anaerobic digestors to decentralized wastewater treatment systems (DWTS) has gained momentum worldwide due to their ease of operation, high efficiency, and ability to recycle wastewater. However, the microbial mechanisms responsible for the high efficiency and ability of DWTS to recycle wastewater are still unclear. In this study, the microbial community structure and function of two different anaerobic bioreactors (a primary sludge digestor, PSD, and anaerobic membrane bioreactor, AnMBR) of a DWTS located in Germany was investigated using 16S rRNA gene amplicon and metagenomic sequencing, respectively. The results showed that the microbial community structure was remarkably different in PSD and AnMBR. Methanobacteriaceae and Syntrophaceae were identified as the families that significantly differed in abundance between these two bioreactors. We also used genome-centered metagenomics to predict the microbial interactions and methane-generating pathway, which yielded 21 near-complete assembled genomes (MAGs) (average completeness of 93.0% and contamination of 2.9%). These MAGs together represented the majority of the microbial community. MAGs affiliated with methanogenic archaea, including Methanobacterium sp., Methanomicrobiales archaea, Methanomassiliicoccales archaea, and Methanosaeta concilii, were recruited, along with other syntrophic bacterial MAGs associated with anaerobic digestion. Key genes encoding enzymes involved in specific carbohydrate-active and methanogenic pathways in MAGs were identified to illustrate the microbial functions and interactions that occur during anaerobic digestion in the wastewater treatment. From the MAG information, it was predicted that bacteria affiliated with Bacteroidetes, Prolixibacteraceae, and Synergistaceae were the key bacteria involved in anaerobic digestion. In the methane production step, Methanobacterium sp. performed hydrogenotrophic methanogenesis, which reduced carbon dioxide to methane with hydrogen as the primary electron donor. Taken together, our findings provide a clear understanding of the methane-generating pathways and highlight the syntrophic interactions that occur during anaerobic digestion in DWTS.

    Abstract: Influenza viruses are respiratory pathogens that are major threats to human health. Due to the emergence of drug-resistant strains, the use of traditional anti-influenza drugs has been hindered. Therefore, the development of new antiviral drugs is critical. In this article, AgBiS2 nanoparticles were synthesized at room temperature, using the bimetallic properties of the material itself to explore its inhibitory effect on the influenza virus. By comparing the synthesized Bi2S3 and Ag2S nanoparticles, it is found that after adding the silver element, the synthesized AgBiS2 nanoparticles have a significantly better inhibitory effect on influenza virus infection than Bi2S3 and Ag2S nanoparticles. Recent studies have shown that the inhibitory effect of AgBiS2 nanoparticles on the influenza virus mainly occurs in the stages of influenza virus-cell internalization and intracellular replication. In addition, it is found that AgBiS2 nanoparticles also have prominent antiviral properties against α and β coronaviruses, indicating that AgBiS2 nanoparticles have significant potential in inhibiting viral activity.

    Abstract: The CdSe nanorod as a one-dimensional nanostructure has an excellent performance in many fields, such as healthcare, new energy, and environmental protection. Thus, it is crucial to investigate its potential adverse health effects prior to their wide exposure. The lung tissue would be the main target organ after CdSe nanorods enter living systems. Here, we showed that pulmonary instillation of CdSe nanorods could decrease the vitality of T-SOD and T-AOC in lung tissues of a rat, increase MDA and hydroxyproline levels and lipid peroxidation products, induce mitochondrial cristae breakage and vacuolization, cause inflammatory responses, and finally induce pulmonary fibrosis. The oral administration of modified procyanidinere could significantly increase the content of antioxidant enzymes, scavenge free radicals, reduce lipid peroxidation, and have protective effects on CdSe nanorods-induced pulmonary fibrosis. The benefit is not only in the early inflammatory stage but also in the later stages of the CdSe nanorods-induced pulmonary fibrosis.

    Abstract: Satellite altimeters have been used to monitor Arctic sea ice (ASI) thickness for several decades, but whether the different altimeter missions (such as radar and laser altimeters) are in agreement with each other and suitable for long-term research needs to be investigated. To analyze the spatiotemporal characteristics of ASI, continuous long-term first-year ice, and multi-year ice of ASI freeboard, thickness, and volume from 2002 to 2021 using the gridded nadirization method from Envisat, CryoSat-2, and ICESat-2, altimeter data are comprehensively constructed and assessed. The influences of sea surface temperature (SST) and sea surface wind field (SSW) on ASI are also discussed. The freeboard/thickness and extent/area of ASI all varied seasonally and reached their maximum and minimum in April and October, March and September, respectively. From 2002 to 2021, the freeboard, thickness, extent, and area of ASI all consistently showed downward trends, and sea ice volume decreased by 5437 km3/month. SST in the Arctic rose by 0.003 degrees C/month, and the sea ice changes lagged behind this temperature variation by one month between 2002 and 2021. The meridional winds blowing from the central Arctic region along the eastern coast of Greenland to the North Atlantic each month are consistent with changes in the freeboard and thickness of ASI. SST and SSW are two of the most critical factors driving sea ice changes. This study provides new data and technical support for monitoring ASI and exploring its response mechanisms to climate change.

    Abstract: The robotic mobile fulfillment system (RMFS) is a new automatic warehousing system, a type of green technology, and an emerging trend in the logistics industry. In this study, we take an RMFS as the research object and combine the connected issues of storage location assignment and path planning into one optimization problem from the perspective of collaborative optimization. A sustainable mathematical model for the collaborative optimization of storage location assignment and path planning (COSLAPP) is established, which considers the relationship between the location assignment of goods and rack storage and path planning in an RMFS. On this basis, we propose a location assignment strategy for goods clustering and rack turnover, which utilizes reservation tables, sets AGV operation rules to resolve AGV running conflicts, and improves the A-star(A*) algorithm based on the node load to find the shortest path by which the AGV handling the racks can complete the order picking. Ultimately, simulation studies were performed to ascertain the effectiveness of COSLAPP in the RMFS; the results show that the new approach can significantly improve order picking efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and lessen the operating costs of the warehouse of a distribution center.

    Abstract: This study aims to explore associations between emotional eating, depression and laryngopharyngeal reflux among college students in Hunan Province. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted among 1301 students at two universities in Hunan. Electronic questionnaires were used to collect information about the students’ emotional eating, depressive symptoms, laryngopharyngeal reflux and sociodemographic characteristics. Anthropometric measurements were collected to obtain body mass index (BMI). Results: High emotional eating was reported by 52.7% of students. The prevalence of depressive symptoms was 18.6% and that of laryngopharyngeal reflux symptoms 8.1%. Both emotional eating and depressive symptoms were associated with laryngopharyngeal reflux symptoms (AOR = 3.822, 95% CI 2.126–6.871 vs. AOR = 4.093, 95% CI 2.516–6.661). Conclusion: The prevalence of emotional eating and depressive symptoms among Chinese college students should be pay more attention in the future. Emotional eating and depressive symptoms were positively associated with laryngopharyngeal symptoms. The characteristics of emotional eating require further study so that effective interventions to promote laryngopharyngeal health among college students may be formulated.

    Abstract: In this paper, a preview theory-based steering control approach considering vehicle dynamic constraints is presented. The constrained variables are predicted by an error states system and utilized to adjust the control law once the established dynamic constraints are violated. The simulated annealing optimization algorithm for preview length is conducted to improve the adaptability of the controller to varying velocities and road adhesion coefficients. The theoretical stability of a closed-loop system is guaranteed using Lyapunov theory, and further analysis of the system response in time domain and frequency domain is discussed. The results of simulations implemented on Carsim–Simulink demonstrate the favorable performance of the proposed control in tracking accuracy and system stability under extreme conditions.

    Abstract: The solvent extraction, complexing ability, and basicity of tetradentate N-donor 2,9-bis(5,5,8,8-tetramethyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-1,2,4-benzotriazin-3-yl)-1,10-phenanthroline (CyMe4-BT- Phen) and its derivatives functionalized by Br, hydroxyphenyl, nitryl were discussed and compared. It was demonstrated that four BTPhen ligands are able to selectively extract Am(lll) over Eu(lll). It was notable that the distribution ratio of 5-nitryl-CyMe4-BTPhen for Eu(lll) was suppressed under 0.02, which was much lower compared to DEu(lll) = 1 by CyMe4-BTPhen. The analysis of the effect of the substituent on the affinity to lanthanides was conducted by UV/vis and fluorescence spectroscopic titration. The stability constants of various ligands with Eu(lll) were obtained by fitting titration curve. Additionally, the basicity of various ligands was determined to be 3.1 ± 0.1, 2.3 ± 0.2, 0.9 ± 0.2, 0.5 ± 0.1 by NMR in the media of CD3OD with the addition of DClO4. The basicity of ligands follows the order of L1 〉 L2 〉 L3 〉 L4, indicating the tendency of protonation decreases with the electron-withdrawing ability increase.
