    Abstract: Polyethylene glycol (PEG)–doxorubicin (DOX) conjugation is an important strategy to improve toxicity and enhance clinically therapeutic efficacy. However, with the frequent use of PEG-modified drugs, the accumulation of anti-PEG antibodies has become a tough issue, which limits the application of PEG–drug conjugation. As an alternative solution, poly(2-oxazoline) (POX)−DOX conjugation has shown great potential in the anti-tumor field, but the reported conjugation process of POX with DOX has drawbacks such as complex synthetic steps and purification. Herein, we propose a convenient and controllable strategy for the synthesis of POX−DOX conjugation with different chain lengths and narrow dispersity by N-boc-2-bromoacetohydrazide-initiated 2-ethyl-oxazoline polymerization and the subsequent deprotection of the N-Boc group and direct reaction with DOX. The DOX−PEtOx conjugates were firstly purified, and the successful conjugations were confirmed through various characterization methods. The synthetic DOX−PEtOxn conjugates reduce the toxicity of DOX and increase the selectivity to tumor cells, reflecting the promising application of this POX−DOX conjugation strategy in drug modification and development.

    Abstract: The constant increase in temperatures under global warming has led to a prolonged aestivation period for Apostichopus japonicus, resulting in considerable losses in production and economic benefits. However, the specific mechanism of aestivation has not been fully elucidated. In this study, we first tried to illustrate the biological mechanisms of aestivation from the perspective of the gut microbiota and metabolites. Significant differences were found in the gut microbiota of aestivating adult A. japonicus (AAJSD group) compared with nonaestivating adult A. japonicus (AAJRT group) and young A. japonicus (YAJRT and YAJSD groups) based on 16S rRNA gene high-throughput sequencing analysis. The abundances of Desulfobacterota, Myxococcota, Bdellovibrionota, and Firmicutes (4 phyla) in the AAJSD group significantly increased. Moreover, the levels of Pseudoalteromonas, Fusibacter, Labilibacter, Litorilituus, Flammeovirga, Polaribacter, Ferrimonas, PB19, and Blfdi19 genera were significantly higher in the AAJSD group than in the other three groups. Further analysis of the LDA effect size showed that species with significant variation in abundance in the AAJSD group, including the phylum Firmicutes and the genera Litorilituus, Fusibacter, and Abilibacter, might be important biomarkers for aestivating adult A. japonicus. In addition, the results of metabolomics analysis showed that there were three distinct metabolic pathways, namely biosynthesis of secondary metabolites, tryptophan metabolism, and sesquiterpenoid and triterpenoid biosynthesis in the AAJSD group compared with the other three groups. Notably, 5-hydroxytryptophan was significantly upregulated in the AAJSD group in the tryptophan metabolism pathway. Moreover, the genera Labilibacter, Litorilituus, Ferrimonas, Flammeovirga, Blfdi19, Fusibacter, Pseudoalteromonas, and PB19 with high abundance in the gut of aestivating adult A. japonicus were positively correlated with the metabolite 5-HTP. These findings suggest that there may be potential biological associations among the gut microbiota, metabolites, and aestivation in A. japonicus. This work may provide a new perspective for further understanding the aestivation mechanism of A. japonicus.

    Abstract: In terrestrial ecosystems, vegetation is sensitive to climate change and human activities. Its spatial-temporal changes also affect the ecological and social environment. In this paper, we considered the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region to study the spatio-temporal vegetation patterns. The detailed analysis of a moderate-resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) data were carried out through the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform. Our results show a slow and tortuous upward trend in the average leaf area index (LAI) in the study region for the periods 2001–2020. Specifically, Beijing had the highest LAI value, with an average of 1.64 over twenty years, followed by Hebei (1.30) and Tianjin (1.04). Among different vegetation types, forests had the highest normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) with the range of 0.62–0.78, followed by shrubland (0.58–0.75), grassland (0.34–0.66), and cropland (0.38–0.54) over the years. Spatially, compared to the whole study area, index value in the northwestern part of the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region increased greatly in many areas, such as northwest Beijing, Chengde, and Zhangjiakou, indicating a significant ecological optimization. Meanwhile, there was ecological degradation in the middle and southeast regions, from Tangshan southeastward to Handan, crossing Tianjin, Langfang, the east part of Baoding, Shijiazhuang, and the west part of Cangzhou. Air temperature and precipitation were positively and significantly correlated with net primary production (NPP) and precipitation stood out as a key driver. Additionally, an intensification of the urbanization rate will negatively impact the vegetation NPP, with the shrubland and forest being affected most relative to the cropland.

    Abstract: Using a controlled optical bias and balanced geometry, we propose a new scheme for broadband terahertz detection by laser-gas interaction without high-voltage manipulation. Compared to the conventional optical bias scheme, the common noise is reduced and the dynamic range as well as the signal-to-noise ratio are doubled. It provides a simple alternative for coherent broadband terahertz detection. The influence of optical bias on terahertz waveform is also investigated, and the evolution of the terahertz-induced second harmonic with probe delay is further revealed. This new detection scheme for broadband terahertz will boost the application of terahertz time-domain spectroscopy for its miniaturization and integrability.

    Abstract: Protection of intrinsically brittle quartz chromatographic columns (CCs) from breakage or property deterioration in gas chromatography (GC) analysis has become an important research topic regarding high-temperature GC techniques. Polyimide (PI) has proved to be the most suitable protective coating for quartz CCs. In the current research, a series of novel high-temperature-resistant PI coatings for quartz CCs operated over 320 °C have been successfully prepared. For this purpose, the aromatic diamine with a rigid skeleton structure 2-(4-aminophenyl)-5-aminobenzimidazole (APBI) was copolymerized with two aromatic dianhydrides—3,3’,4,4’-benzophenotetracarboxylic acid dianhydride (BTDA) and 4,4’-oxydiphthalic anhydride (ODPA)—and an aromatic diamine with flexible ether linkages—4,4’-oxydianiline (ODA)—by a two-step polymerization procedure via soluble poly(amic acid) (PAA) precursors, followed by thermal imidization at elevated temperatures. The developed PI coatings exhibited good comprehensive properties, including glass transition temperatures (Tg) as high as 346.9 °C, measured by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), and coefficients of linear thermal expansion (CTEs) as low as 24.6 × 10−6/K in the range of 50–300 °C. In addition, the PI coatings exhibited good adhesion to the fused quartz capillary columns. No cracking, delamination, warpage, or other failures occurred during the 100-cycle thermal shock test in the range of 25–320 °C.
